Last Wednesday at noon, the St. Gallen cantonal police deployed a large contingent to an apartment on the street Speicherstrasse in St. Gallen. There they also deployed firearms. The deployment was necessary because a man massively attacked a woman. The woman was brought to the hospital with serious injuries and died the same evening. The man involved was also killed. He died on the spot. The details were not known at first.Now the St. Gallen public prosecutor’s office announces that the man was shot by the police. In a media release it says: “The arriving police officers asked the suspected perpetrator several times to stop, but he did not react and continued to strike the woman in a massive manner. The two police officers then fired several shots at the suspected perpetrator.
“The suspected perpetrator is a 22-year-old, the victim was a 46-year-old woman. The public prosecutor’s office assumes that the victim was chosen completely randomly. The memo states: “At this point in time, both the choice of apartment and the victim appear to be completely random. The man had gained access to an apartment in a house and then brutally struck the 46-year-old woman there with a blunt, edged object. The woman died as a result of a severe craniocerebral trauma.
There are indications for psychological problems in the 22-year-old. The circumstances, how it came to the crime, are the subject of the investigation. The motive for the attack on the woman is also still unclear. Apparently the perpetrator was registered at an address about 500 meters from the crime scene until 2018, reports the newspaper “Blick”. The indications of his psychological problems are evident in the text the 22-year-old wrote himself according to the report and shared on Facebook: “I’m telling you, it’s a shit life – a fucking shit life,” he raps in the song he recorded.”I’m telling you, I’m coming with a gun and I’m going to kill everybody (…)”. He also has an incoherent adoration for foreigners who have brought a lot of culture to Switzerland. He proclaims to be a proud Muslim and to stand up for everyone with brown skin color. On Wednesday, dozens of policemen from the city and cantonal police forces showed up on site. Also on site were the Forensic, Forensic Medicine and Public Prosecutor’s Office as well as the Forensic Service of the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, and several ambulances with emergency doctors.The area surrounding an apartment building had been cordoned off by the police. The Appenzeller Railroad line between St. Gallen and Notkersegg had also been halted due to the incident.
