Upper school pupils at a comprehensive school in Neuss attempted to enforce ultra-strict Islamic rules and behaved like a “Sharia police force”. They rejected democracy and put fellow pupils under pressure.
The BILD newspaper has now learnt from fellow pupils how the Islamists exerted pressure on the school. It is a frightening incident that took place in the heart of Germany.
Around a year ago, several pupils at the Nordstadt comprehensive school in Neuss (North Rhine-Westphalia) behaved in a visibly different way. The pupils noticed several classmates gathering on the school grounds for an Islamic prayer.
Some young men from this group left the school before the end of lessons on Friday to attend a Friday prayer in a mosque. “There was a clear instruction from the teachers that they were not allowed to do this,” one pupil told BILD.
Even when Muslim teachers were called in and explained to the pupils (led by a 19-year-old ringleader from class 12) that they could postpone their Friday prayers, as this was permitted by the religion, this had no effect.
A short time later, these pupils demanded a prayer room. There were complaints from other pupils that they were being pressurised into observing Islamic rules. According to witnesses, the group did not even stop at Muslim teachers in the school. They were also admonished for not complying with Islamic rules.
At school, it was subsequently observed that the number of strictly dressed girls increased.
Several pupils apparently followed the group’s instructions out of fear. Some non-Muslim pupils converted to Islam. The group then demanded that gender-segregated events take place at school and during swimming lessons.
But that was not all: “During the lessons, you could see how the seating arrangements in the classes changed,” said one pupil. “The pupils were seated separately by gender, with the boys sitting at the front of the class and the girls relegated to the back. When approached, the female pupils no longer looked the male teachers in the face.”
When the school responded, the members of the Islamist group rejected the German legal system. According to Focus magazine, the group is said to have spoken of stoning as a punishment for offences. However, this account is contradicted by the Düsseldorf district government.
Following these discussions, the school called in the state security service, which is now investigating.
