One in five Islamist attackers inside the EU was an asylum seeker

A study by a terror researcher shows that 19 per cent of the Islamist attackers came to the EU as refugees. According to the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), the figure for Germany is significantly higher.

Since the terrorist attacks in Nice, Dresden and Vienna, politicians in the European Union have been asking how many of the perpetrated Islamist attacks came from abroad. Neither Europol, the EU Commission, nor the Federal Criminal Police Office or the Office for the Protection of the Constitution could answer this.British terror researcher Sam Mullins found that one in five Islamist attackers in the European Union was an asylum seeker. From 2012 to 2020, 91 Islamist attacks were committed in the EU by 132 attackers. Of these, 25 were asylum seekers. This means that 19 percent of the Islamist attackers were ” refugees”, i.e. asylum seekers. Regarding the accomplices: Asylum seekers were involved in 27 per cent of the attacks.Mullins stated in an interview with the newspaper “Welt am Sonntag”: “The connection between illegal migration and terrorism should neither be overemphasised nor disputed. Not even one per thousand of asylum seekers commit attacks, but they are overrepresented in Islamist attacks in the EU.”Under asylum seekers, the terrorism expert adds up asylum seekers during their procedure as well as recognised and rejected applicants. The Briton worked as a professor of counter-terrorism at the George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany) until 2019.
