New accusations of anti-Semitism against Muslim journalist at German public broadcaster

New irritations about journalist Nemi El-Hassan (28), who has been criticised for taking part in anti-Semitic demonstrations calling, among other things, for “gassing”.

While public broadcaster WDR has suspended its cooperation with El-Hassan and is investigating the accusations, new incriminating postings have surfaced. For example, as recently as the summer of 2021, the journalist marked anti-Israeli and even anti-Semitic content with “likes” on Instagram. This was content from the American far-left organisation “Jewish Voice for Peace”, which is known for incitement against Israel and support for the anti-Semitic boycott movement BDS.

A post celebrating the escape of Palestinian inmates from an Israeli prison as an “incredible heroic act” was given a “like” by El-Hassan as recently as September. Among those who broke out were Islamist terrorists (members of the “Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades” and the “Islamist Jihad in Palestine”) who were involved in deadly attacks against Israeli civilians. One of the escaped terrorists, together with accomplices, had kidnapped an 18-year-old Israeli in 2006 and executed him with a bullet to the head. El-Hassan’s “like” is only a few weeks old.

A post from July calling for the boycott of Israeli products was also rewarded with approval by the public broadcaster. In this context, the German Parliament classifies the boycott movement BDS (“Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions”) as anti-Semitic.And even anti-Israel slogans like “Anti-Zionism is a duty” or “From the River to the See, Palestine will be free” were given a heart emoji by the journalist as recently in May. Both mottoes stand for the eradication of the state of Israel, as it is not only the West Bank that is at stake, but all of Israel, which Israel-haters believe should be ” freed”.

Only a few days ago, the journalist declared in an interview with the magazine “Spiegel” that she had no hatred for Israel and did not deny the state’s “right to exist”. She also called for a “lasting peaceful solution for the region”. However, El-Hassan was said not to be able to assess whether this would consist of a two-state or a one-state solution, as she was “not a political scientist”. She described her participation in the anti-Semitic Al-Kuds march as a “mistake” and declared that she had distanced herself from this milieu.

In the meantime, El-Hassan is also supported by numerous journalists, artists and activists who attest to the fact that she has been “resolutely against anti-Semitism for years”. She has allegedly clearly acknowledged and distanced herself from the “mistakes of her past”.

Explosive: On the night of Monday to Tuesday, Nemi El-Hassan removed her “Like” tags under the posts in question.
