Macron slapped in the face: ‘He got what he deserved’

CNews star Eric Zemmour commented on the slap received by French President Emmanuel Macron on June 8, 2021. While condemning the slap given to Macron, the journalist and columnist considered that the President of the Republic “got what he deserved” because Macron “himself has desecrated the function”.

During the program Face à l’Info, Eric Zemmour returned to the issue of slap received by Emmanuel Macron during a trip to the Drôme. While condemning the gesture, the journalist and columnist said that the President of the Republic had in the past done worse things to demean himself.

“He himself desecrated the function, he himself does not respect his function,” said Eric Zemmour, referring to “the music festival with a completely ostentatious gay group“, the “famous photo with two young black people who made obscene gestures to him” as well as “his behaviour in the street to call outto a young man and say to him ‘I’ll cross the street and I’ll find you work’.

“Even if he thinks so, even if he is right, he does not have to engage in a dialogue like that with a regular person. He is President of the Republic, he is the King, especially in the French conception of institutions,” continued the journalist who had recently cast doubt on his much-awaited candidacy for the 2022 presidential election.

“He [Macron] has desecrated himself, and so he gets what he deserves if I may say so. It’s horrible to say, obviously I condemn this act […] but it was thus provoked,” continued Zemmour, the only voice speaking out in defence of the slapper against the unanimous reactions of the political class condemning the gesture.

“I’m not even talking about the last unpleasant joke with Carlito and McFly,” he concluded, refering to the video which caused controversy on social networks and was criticized by the media.

Two YouTubers, Raphaël Carlier and David Coscas, their real names, responded in February to a “challenge” that the President of the Republic had offered them: to make a video on the importance of anti-Covid measures. And with their video on the importance of respecting masks and social distancing in the face of Covid-19, the two social media clowns McFly and Carlito quickly reached the challenge of 10 million views proposed by Emmanuel Macron which allowed them to meet with the Head of State for day of “fun”.

But only a few days after highlighting the importance of anti-Covid measures at the request of the Head of State, the two famous Youtubers apparently forgot to comply with the message Macron wanted to convey. They released a video about their travel to Belgium to meet one of their fans. But during this 23-minute sequence, the two continuously ignore anti-Covid measures that they nevertheless promoted at the request of the French president.

In a Thalys train, they walk in the corridors and sit in their seats without wearing masks, from the Gare du Nord in Paris to Brussels. The railway company specifies on its site that “on board all our trains, wearing a mask is compulsory”. In addition, getting off the train in the Belgian capital, Carlito addresses someone without wearing his mask. Later, both McFly and Carlito abandon their masks in a car rental agency where “the wearing of a mask (covering the nose and mouth) is compulsory” according to the city.

“Anti-Covid measures are important for you and your loved ones, try to respect them as much as possible”, they had written in the description of their video “in response to the challenge of the President of the Republic”.

The Montpellier Solidaire student union, for its part, considered that the government’s choice to communicate through influencers “was not trivial”. By using McFly and Carlito was a means “to depoliticize our demands while by reaching their audience, often very young”.

After all, a head of state who knows how to have “fun”, detach himself from the seriousness of his function for empty moments of levity, and indulge in an unprecedented form of self-mockery with two old clowns, cannot be taken very seriously. It was President Macron himself that came up with the idea to join the woke movement, seeing the country ravaged by Covid-19, social movements and especially the decline in his popularity.
