Raid on Tuesday morning on Corona aid fraud. The searches are taking place in six federal states.
Nationwide, 59 properties are being searched. The main focus is Berlin, according to a police spokesperson. There, the police are in action in the Wedding and Moabit districts, among others. There are also raids in Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, Baden-Wuerttemberg and Saxony.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, four flats were searched in Frechen, Essen, Wuppertal and Ennepetal. The four suspects are from Egypt, Tunisia and Syria. The main suspect is said to have spread Islamist content on social media. After investigations at a Berlin bank for Corona aid fraud, the men in North Rhine-Westphalia were also tracked down.
According to information from the newspaper BILD, the searches are directed against Islamists. It is about the accusation of subsidy fraud. The suspects are said to have applied for Corona subsidies unjustly.
However, the searches are said to be a nationwide operation. According to BILD information, arrest warrants were not executed.
Since 11.6.2020, the Berlin Criminal Investigation Department (LKA 82) has had an investigation group called “Krone”. It deals with fraudulent applications for emergency aid by persons of the Islamist spectrum.
Benjamin Jendro, spokesman for the police union in Berlin: “As an international metropolis, the capital is naturally also the focus of terrorist networks. This makes it all the more important to look very closely at the financial flows within extremist structures. In this specific case, it is evident that they apparently do not even shy away from taking state aid in order to finance the killing of people.
