Islamist attack foiled in France: They wanted to kill passers-by indiscriminately with knives in busy places before Christmas and die as martyrs

According to our information, two 23-year-old men were arrested on Monday morning, November 29, in Meaux (Seine-et-Marne) and Le Pecq (Yvelines) by police officers from the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI) as part of a preliminary investigation launched a few days earlier by the National Anti-terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat). They were charged with being part of a “criminal terrorist organisation” on December 3 and remanded in custody. A confession was made by one of the two suspects when questioned by the police.

He admitted that the duo planned to commit the crime during the holidays and said that his suspected accomplice, whom he described as the most motivated and reliable of the group, had suggested using knives to randomly murder “infidels”, i.e. passers-by without distinction. Several busy places were named as targets: Shopping centres, including a well-known one in a Paris suburb, universities or busy streets. The two suspected terrorists then wanted to be glorified as “martyrs”, i.e. shot by the law enforcement officers who were called in.
