He arrived in France in 2020 and posted pro-jihadist content on Instagram: A Chechen man with a “long Salafist-type beard” and no papers was jailed in Nice for glorifying terrorism

In the dock, A. wears a long, Salafist-like beard. But behind this appearance, it is his personal interests that are worrying the judiciary. Last Friday, the 31-year-old Chechen had to answer to the criminal court in Nice because he had shared worrying content on social networks. The content was pro-jihadist images, videos and comments.

A. arrived in France in March 2020. After his asylum application was rejected, he is considering legal action. One of four siblings, he came to France without his parents, but lives here with his 21-year-old wife, who is eight months pregnant, and their two young children. He lives in a squat in the Ariane district. As a welder, he worked in construction and continues to work ” illegally from time to time” because the 400 euros he receives from the French immigration office is not enough to cover their living expenses.

“Why did you come to France under these circumstances? Without a family, without a job, without papers, without speaking the language?” asked the chairman Edouard Levrault. “I am trying to learn the language and get the official papers,” justifies the accused, who is worried about the uncertainty. He stresses, “I have no intention of running away. I want to stay here in France.”

The prosecutor Sabine Neale would rather make sure. She asks that he be remanded in custody to “stop the delinquency and monitor his whereabouts” as it is a “particularly worrying offence and particularly serious offences”. The court follows their requests and puts the accused in prison. Nice-Matin
