Germany: Pfizer sponsors party conference of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) – which appoints chancellors and health ministers

The impression is – how shall we put it – at least unfavourable: The party that now nominates the chancellor and health minister in Germany can be happy about pharmaceutical company Pfizer, of all things, sponsoring its own party conference. Pfizer also developed one of the Covid vaccines approved in the EU. The transparency of the SPD – one might note – is at least gratifying, but what kind of message is that in times like these?

Some governments seem to be capitulating: They are currently no longer even trying to explain the state of research to citizens in a comprehensible way, to address most objections and to admit mistakes. The result: scepticism towards pharmaceutical companies, science and politics continues to grow. Many are now warning of a crisis of confidence.

Vaccination deniers and vaccination sceptics even question the results of science; in their eyes, there is primarily a network of interests – above all between pharmaceutical companies and governments. Is it particularly helpful to have the vaccine developer Pfizer as a sponsor of the very party to which Germany’s Health Minister Karl Lauterbach now belongs?

A furore is now spreading across Europe. In Germany, too, demonstrations against the ongoing Corona measures are increasing. The vaccinations, which have to be constantly refreshed, are now also annoying many people. Now the false promises of politics are taking revenge. The promise was: First vaccination – and then over and done with. That was the hope of most citizens, and that is exactly what did not happen.

How about more transparency on the part of politicians – in terms of data, studies, unanswered questions?
