Germany: North African shoots German-Polish man to death

At the hospital, doctors were still fighting for the victim’s life. But they were not successful. A bullet had fatally shot the man (22) in Dortmund.

It was already the middle of the night when residents in the Kreuzviertel district heard the eerie sound of a bang. Shortly afterwards, patrol cars and emergency vehicles are speeding to the Westpark, flashing blue lights, and officers cordon off a wide area.

In the park, the paramedics find a bleeding man. He is no longer responsive. Despite immediate treatment and admission to hospital, the terrible news comes shortly afterwards. As first reported by “ruhr24.de”, the 22-year-old died of a gunshot wound.

Barely twelve hours after the crime, a suspect (21) was arrested in his flat in the centre of Dortmund on Saturday. Senior public prosecutor Carsten Dombert (58): “The suspect remains silent on the charges. According to the current state of the investigation, an originally terse argument seems to have caused the bloody deed.”

According to the report, two small groups of young men had already clashed early in the evening. Later, the cliques met again, and a slap in the face is said to have happened.

In the further course of the quarrel, the fatal shot was fired at around 2.30 a.m. on Saturday morning! The bullet hit the German-Polish victim in the lower abdomen, injuring large arteries and important organs.

The suspected German with North African roots was able to flee from the Westpark, but investigators quickly identified the man as the suspected shooter. He is known to the police, there have already been several charges and proceedings against him for assault offences.

In order to clarify the exact course of events, the homicide squad is looking for witnesses to the night’s events in Westpark. Several hundred people are said to have been in the park at the time of the crime.
