Germany: Muslim family allegedly planned murder plot against own daughter because of her western lifestyle

What kind of mother plans to have her child crippled or killed? Heda B. (23 years old) lived a lifestyle that was too western for her family from Chechnya. This attitude almost killed the young woman. She is now under witness protection – and half her family is on trial.

Criminal court, room 500. Born in Chechnya. Russian passports. In Berlin for years. When Interior Senator Andreas Geisel ( Social Democratic Party) examined Berlin’s organized crime in December 2019, offenders with a Russian-Eurasian background came right after bikers and Arab clans. Investigators noted “unusual team spirit”, a “rigorous system of sanctions” and “transregional networking”. There is often talk of “honor” in these circles, but it has nothing to do with honor.

Senior Public Prosecutor Michael Wachs from the Berlin Prosecutor General’s Office reads out the indictment.

Senior Public Prosecutor Michael Wachs from the Berlin Prosecutor General’s Office reads out the indictment. 14 pages describing the hate in the finest legal terminology: criminal conspiracy, attempted murder incitement, severe deprivation of liberty.

Heda’s mother Hava I. (45, no profession), brother Daurbek B. (24, no profession) and former law student Mairbek K. (36) are sitting behind bulletproof glass (arrested on January 18, 2020). The suspected accomplices of the plot against the renegade woman are her uncle Tamirland D. (28, no profession) and Zelimkhan Ba. (29, former management student), both at large. The young woman had been married in 2018 according to the prosecution. After three months she fled from the “highly mentally ill” man. She had reported him – for attempted departure to the terror-ISIS in Syria. Shortly before the testimony against him, she was taken by her family to Georgia, the prosecution says. She was held captive for weeks in a mountain valley, and was also beaten. In the following time it was considered, how it goes on with her, “which had offended the honour of the family by the leaving of the husband, the testimony at the police, the abortion of a child and possibly further following alleged wrongdoing”, so the charge. In mid-December 2019 “intensive consideration had been made of a ”killing abroad”, should her remarriage to a man from the Pankisi valley in Georgia fail.

According to the prosecution, the ex-law student offered her mother to be the killer, since her daughter “as long as she is still alive, will always be dangerous”. According to the prosecution, the mother is also said to have considered making her daughter “a cripple” – while the brother was looking for a husband “who could keep her under control.

Until the arrest of mother, brother and ex-law student, murder was a daily topic of conversation between them, as evidenced by logs of the family’s tapped phone calls. Now the suspected murder accomplices remain silent in court.

Friday the daughter is to testify as a witness, guarded by armed bodyguards. The accused are threatened with up to 15 years in prison. The verdict will be pronounced on December 3.
