“German-Turkish man” beats German student to death

Six weeks after a fatal altercation in front of a student club on Nürnberger Straße, the suspected manslaughterer (20) has now been caught.

According to the police, the German-Turkish man had an altercation with a German man (34) in front of the student club (Stuk) at around 4.30 a.m. on July 6. The exchange of words turned into a “physical altercation”, according to police spokeswoman Mariele Koeckeritz. And further: “As a result, the 34-year-old fell to the ground and was taken to hospital by the emergency doctor in an unconscious state.”

For six days, doctors fought for the 34-year-old’s life. In vain! The man succumbed to his injuries already on the 12th of July.

The perpetrator had fled after the beating. However, the police were able to identify the suspect. Senior public prosecutor Ricardo Schulz: “At the request of the public prosecutor’s office, an arrest warrant was issued by the investigating judge at Leipzig District Court on urgent suspicion of bodily harm resulting in death, and the suspect was arrested on August 16, 2022.”

A judge remanded the suspected killer in custody. The CID is looking for witnesses from the night of the crime by calling 0341/9664 6666.
