German public broadcaster omits the clue “Arabic appearance” from the APB for a rapist

On Saturday evening, a woman was raped at a railway subway in Regensburg.

The police are searching for a man (approx. 1.80 metres) who is described as follows:Late 20s or somewhat younger, athletic figure, broken German, brown, neck-length hair combed back, white T-shirt and blue jeans.

And then another detail: “dark skin colour – described as Arabic appearance”. A piece of information that the public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) deliberately omitted from an article.

A BR spokesperson to BILD: “Especially in the case of police manhunts, we report all relevant aspects in order to be able to identify perpetrators more quickly.”

It goes on to say: “The aforementioned internal standards were not met here. The online article was expanded in the morning according to the guidelines. At the morning editorial meeting, the existing standards were again pointed out.”
