Following the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Hamburg’s city park, photos of some of the twelve suspects have been published on various Instagram accounts. The police are investigating. An online petition also calls for the “publication of the perpetrators’ faces”. For the newspaper WELT, this is an outrageous action. It is not the gang rape that is being pilloried, in which the girl was subjected to 2 ½ hours of perverse violence by 12 filthy rags, but the publication of the photos…. a disgusting perpetrator-victim reversal. It is to be hoped that the rapists will not also be entitled to compensation for harm….

Independently of this, an online petition was also launched on the website change.org demanding “an immediate trial, and the publication of the faces of the perpetrators”. By noon on Tuesday, more than 9,000 people had joined the petition.
The petition also called for the dismissal of one of the suspects, who had only started training with the Hamburg Lebenshilfe, a self-help association for people with mental disabilities, in August this year.

The Lebenshilfe company responded to the accusations directed at one of its trainees. “First of all, we would like to emphasise that all our thoughts are with the victim of this atrocious crime,” it said in a press release. “We were shocked by the described course of events as well as by the fact that one of our employees could possibly be involved.”
They immediately sought personal talks with the employee in question and released him from work with immediate effect for the period of the ongoing investigation. “If the allegations are confirmed, we will immediately draw the appropriate consequences under labour law,” it said.
