Despite all these efforts, the IESH are classified as sensitive institutions by the Ministry of the Interior and are regularly the target of investigations into their funding and the content of their teaching; indeed, some former students have gone to fight in Syria, others have stood out, such as Ines Madani in 2016, who tried to blow up Notre Dame with her car full of gas canisters, or Rede Hame, a jihadist arrested in 2015 for planning an attack on a concert hall.

The Institut Européen des Sciences Humaines (IESH) is an educational facility in France associated with the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE) and its French member the Union des organisations islamiques de France (UOIF), both organizations representing the Muslim Brotherhood in Europe. The original institute was founded in the early 1990s in Château Chinon, but there are also IESH branches in Paris and Orléons. Over the years and with the help of groups tied to the Muslim Brotherhood, IESH has grown into a Europe-wide network of educational facilities: The UK offshoot of IESH is known as the European Institute of Human Sciences (EIHS), established in 1997 with branches in Birmingham and London. IESH also has an associated German organization known as the Europäisches Institut für Humanwissenschaften (EIHW), established in 2012 and located in Frankfurt. There is also a European Institute Islamic for Human Sciences (EIIHS) located in Helsinki, Finland, established in 2015. While it is unclear what is being taught at IESH, the theological view of its leadership suggests those views are in line with the Islamic fundamentalism of the Global Muslim Brotherhood. At least a dozen individuals associated with IESH have been or are current members of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, the theological body of the Global Muslim Brotherhood until recently headed by Youssef Qaradawi.
