France: Teacher threatened with murder after giving lecture on Islamist attacks

A history and geography teacher at the Lycée Joliot-Curie in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) was threatened, as reported by the newspaper Le Figaro. A tag was discovered in the school: “You are worse than Samuel Paty fdp (“fils de pute”,(Son of a bitch) editor’s note)”, was written on it. According to information we have received, the incident occurred after a lesson in which the teacher mentioned the Islamist attacks. The Versailles rectorate, which “condemns” the incidents, announced that the teacher would now enjoy personal protection.

“The situation is being monitored particularly closely by the Rectorate and the Directorate of the Department of Education of the Hauts-de-Seine (DSDEN) in liaison with the police forces,” the institution stated. Despite the threats made against him, the teacher has no intention of giving in. He wants to return to school after the New Year holidays.

Teachers have been the target of repeated attacks by pupils in recent times. As a reminder, two pupils were taken into police custody in the department of Yvelines after ” attempting to poison a teacher “. The pupil and his family went to the headmistress “to admit his offence, which he regrets”. A disciplinary council is to be convened when lessons resume in January.
