The suspect allegedly repeatedly called out the name of the Prophet Mohammed, the same source said. He then walked around the vehicle and tried to attack the other police officers. One of them used his firearm to neutralise the attacker. That person’s condition is life-threatening. The identity of the person has been established. The man is said to be 37 years old, to have Algerian nationality and to be called Lakhdar B.. He is said to have an Italian residence permit and is not known to the police. The investigation was entrusted to the criminal investigation department of Nice. The anti-terror prosecutor’s office has not yet taken up the case.

The Mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, and the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, shared the news on their Twitter accounts. The mayor of the city assured that there were “no fatalities”. He said that “the circumstances of the attack” would be clarified and promised the police “full support”.
