France: Ali, 27 years old, S-file record as an Islamist and dressed in a djellaba, was arrested when he threatened passers-by with a knife. He also threatened the police officers to kill them

On Saturday July 23, a man dressed in a djellaba was arrested in Marseille for threatening passers-by with a kitchen knife with a 30 cm blade. When police arrived at the scene, he was praying. According to a police source, the man allegedly threatened the policemen to kill them if they approached him. Fearing for their safety, the policemen used a stun gun (PIE) to disarm him.

The suspect with the name Ali B. is 27 years old. He was arrested without any difficulty and subsequently taken into police custody. He has a criminal record in the “Traitement d’antécédents judiciaires” (TAJ), a police file used in judicial investigations – among others for an attempted murder of a person exercising public authority – and is registered in the S-card index for Islamists. As he did not appear to be in full possession of his faculties, he was taken to hospital to undergo a psychiatric examination, according to the police source. An investigation was initiated.
