An Afghan national threatened police officers with a knife in a shopping centre in Rennes at around 10 am on Tuesday before attacking them. The man was eventually arrested by law enforcement officers after he tried to slit the throat of a police officer who tried to overpower him.
A tragedy was averted. It was around 10 am on Tuesday July 5 when security guards at the Colombia shopping centre in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) spotted a person behaving in a threatening manner.
(…) When the police officers arrived on the scene, they tried to arrest him, but the man tried to attack them with a knife.
The suspect managed to escape and then tried to slit the throat of another policeman who came and tried to subdue him, an eyewitness told CNEWS.
(…) According to the same source, the arrested man is Mahdi R., a 27-year-old Afghan with legal residence status and a residence permit (carte de résidence pluriannuelle) valid until May 2023.
