A man entered the Reims (Marne, photo above) police headquarters at around 1pm on Monday, threatening the officers with a knife and shouting “Allah akbar”, Actu17 has learned. He was subdued with the help of a stun gun and arrested. There were reportedly no injuries.

The suspect, who was taken into police custody, is said to be already known to the police, according to several sources.

The police union Unité SGP Police FO Zone Est condemns a “disgraceful attempted attack” and expresses its solidarity with the police officers of the Reims police headquarters.

“Fortunately, they overpowered him immediately, otherwise there could have been at least one murder. This proves how important it is to be equipped with secondary weapons as well. This shows again and again that police officers are targeted because they represent the state and moreover the republic,” said the national delegate of the Alliance Police Nationale union, Eric Henry. An investigation has been launched. In the course of the investigation, the motives and profile of the perpetrator will be clarified. This act shows once again that the terrorist threat in France has never been more present since the Islamist attack that killed Professor Dominique Bernard. Not least for this reason, Education Minister Gabriel Attal announced that radicalised pupils will be specially monitored by the government.
