France: A 17-year-old high school student who converted to Islam plotted a terrorist attack at Roazhon Park, home of Stade Rennes, with the help of armed accomplices

In Rennes, a 17-year-old high school student who had converted to Islam had drawn up a plan for a terrorist attack on the Roazhon Park football stadium on the Route de Lorient with the help of armed accomplices he intended to recruit via the messenger Telegram. He was arrested at his home in Rennes on January 16, 2018, and will appear with a co-defendant before the special juvenile court that tries terrorist crimes from November 30, 2021, to December 3, 2021.

On February 25, 2018, Interior Minister Gérard Collomb revealed that two planned attacks had been foiled by the intelligence services in January. One had targeted “a large sports facility”. On January 16, 2018, a 17-year-old high school student who had converted to Islam had been arrested at his mother’s home, which was located in Rennes and not far from the football stadium.

Investigations had revealed that he was very active on social networks. He forwarded texts and videos containing jihadist propaganda. In particular, he used the messenger Telegram for recruitment to carry out attacks on Roazhon Park, the bar L’Équipe and the Carrefour City shop in the Rue de Lorient…(…) Ouest-France
