Last October, the Grand Mosque of Paris, whose “Guide for Students” we had already come to know as radical references, organised a competition to memorise the “40 Hadiths” of the jurist Nawawi (1233-1277), a collection indispensable among Sunnis of all persuasions and sold in Fnac and all Muslim bookshops.
So what do these famous hadiths (traditions reproducing the words of the Prophet and the second source of Islamic law) contain?
Hadith #8:
“I have been commanded to fight people until they testify that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad (Mohammed) is His Messenger, until they perform the ritual prayer and pay the Zekâa (1)”.
Hadith no. 14:
“It is not permissible to shed the blood of a Muslim unless it is one of the following three culprits: the fornicator whose marriage has been consummated, the murderer who will suffer the fate of his victim, and the apostate who turns away from the Muslim community.
“Allah has prescribed that you should do good in all things. So when you kill, kill well. And when you cut the throat, cut the throat well. Each of you should sharpen his knife and kill his sacrifice properly.
Are the sacrifices mentioned in this hadith just animals? That is what Muslim activists want non-Muslims to believe for reassurance.
In the translation by Mohammed Tahar, published by Deux Océans and selected by the Institut du Monde Arabe (reference NAW 242.11 in the IMA library), the translator points out that while the word ” to cut the throat” in Hadith 17 (p. 46) refers to animals, he also clarifies that the verb ” to kill” refers to humans. These two clarifications are in brackets.
The translator Mohammed Tahar, a specialist in the classical Arabic language, provides Hadith 17 with an explanatory footnote, which is reproduced here in full:
” When executing (beheading by the sword), the executioner must use a sharp blade. The application of capital punishment under a revealed law must be accompanied by dignity and respect for man, whose highest good, if he is a believer, is not this worldly life.”
Respect for man”, sure enough!
For the naïve who believe that the Grand Mosque of Paris represents peaceful Islam against Islamism, recall that when the GMP was still led by Dalil Boubakeur, it always defended the UOIF brothers, even when six of its orientalist extremist speakers were banned from entering the country in 2012 for their calls for murder. Boubakeur also defended the imam of Toulouse, Mohamed Tatai, in July 2018, following his remarks about jihad and the Jews who, according to Islamic tradition, must be killed at the end of time
More recently, the Grand Mosque of Paris is participating in a National Council of Imams intended by Gérald Darmanin to unite all Islamist movements.
Abdallah Zekri, one of the leaders of the Great Mosque of Paris, attacked young Mila, who was threatened with death, with the words ” Whoever sows the wind will reap the storm. This girl knows what she said. She has accepted her responsibility. That she criticises religions is fine, but to insult them and all that goes with it … Now she is bearing the consequences for what she said.”
More recently, the Grand Mosque of Paris is participating in a National Council of Imams intended by Gérald Darmanin to unite all Islamist movements.
