As the local newspaper Sud Ouest reported, the attacker had accused a group of people of North African origin of drinking alcohol. The situation escalated and the attacker then pulled out a knife. The dead man is said to be a 36-year-old Algerian who was injured in the neck. The two seriously injured men were taken to the university hospital in Bordeaux.

A man was killed by shots fired by a police officer at the foot of the Stone Bridge in Bordeaux on Wednesday April 10, the Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office has confirmed. He had just stabbed another man to death.
A large contingent of rescue workers and police was deployed at the foot of the stone bridge on the left bank of the Garonne in Bordeaux on Wednesday April 10. According to our information, a police officer had shot and killed a man underneath the structure that crosses the River Garonne.
In the early evening, the man armed with a knife was walking along the promenades on the left bank. At the Place de la Bourse, he attacked pedestrians with a stabbing weapon. The result: one dead and one injured near the water’s edge. He then continued his journey along the banks of the Garonne. The police, who were called to the scene, had to use their submachine gun to neutralise the attacker.
Two young joggers passing each other on the stone bridge confirmed that they had witnessed a man with a knife wearing a turban. Sud Ouest
