Biden accuses Trump, Republicans of ‘extremism’

US President Joe Biden sharply criticized his predecessor Donald Trump and all Republicans in a speech. Trump’s forces are “determined to lead this country into the past,” he said at a campaign event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, against a peculiar red and black backdrop.

In the same breath, Biden warned of “an America without free elections, privacy and contraception”. Without irony, Biden labelled 75 million Americans as “extremists” while simultaneously calling for unity.

“We must defend American democracy,” Biden said. In doing so, he sharply attacked the Trump slogan “Make America Great Again” (MAGA). “Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very republic.” With his MAGA slogan, Trump surprisingly won the presidential election in 2016.

Trump is fueling “political violence,” the Democratic Party politician said. “There is no place for political violence in America.”

Biden’s appearances are part of the US election campaign. In the congressional elections on November 8, local voters will determine who will be elected to the House of Representatives, and around a third of the seats in the Senate will be re-elected. In addition, gubernatorial elections are pending in numerous states.
