One of the police officers stabbed in a knife attack in Schaerbeek on Thursday evening has died from his injuries, according to the Brussels prosecutor’s office. Several media reported that the man who attacked the police officers was said to have shouted “Allah Akbar”, but the prosecutor’s office can neither confirm nor deny this at this time.

The crime occurred in Schaerbeek at around 7.15 pm on Thursday. “One of our patrols was attacked by a man armed with a knife,” the Brussels North Police Directorate said. “The two police officers then called for reinforcements. A policeman from another patrol used his firearm to neutralise the attacker. The two injured policemen and the attacker were taken to hospital. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office has been informed of the facts,” the police directorate said.
