Austria: Fellow pupil brutally knocked down – nevertheless no expulsion from school for three Syrians

For pupils of the secondary school in Haag (Lower Austria, district Amstetten), things could be dangerous again as of tomorrow, Thursday: The three Syrians who brutally beat and injured a fellow pupil in September will be allowed to attend classes again after their suspension. It was the second such incident at the school in only one year.

The assault took place on September 14 at the school’s sports field. The three Syrians allegedly brutally beat up a boy, numerous haematomas and a plastered hand witnessed the severity of the blows for weeks. As a result, the three alleged perpetrators of violence were suspended from school until October 5.

The victim’s mother now fears that there could be further attacks against her son starting tomorrow. However, there is no talk of an expulsion from school yet, the school has not yet been able to bring itself to do so. According to research by the newspaper Kronen Zeitung, the threat has to be serious enough to justify such an expulsion. A rather vague statement.

The severity of violations is always determined by the school doctor. The school conference then decides on the actual reprimand. The question arises why no such decision has been made in the three weeks since the incident. In view of the victim’s injuries, there should be no doubt that the three Syrians pose a threat.

In any case, Freedom Party (FPÖ) district party leader Edith Mühlberghuber and regional party leader Udo Landbauer are demanding the immediate expulsion of the three potential dangerous persons from school: “The headmaster apparently believes that he can ride something out like this and get away with keeping quiet. This cannot be it ,” emphasises Landbauer, who wants to continue to be active in this matter.
