Austria: Afghan waiter rapes 18-year-old female guest in pub

An investigation is underway against a waiter (38) of a restaurant in a shopping centre in Pasching on suspicion of rape. The Afghan is alleged to have sexually assaulted an 18-year-old girl, who was there as a guest, in a separate room at around 11 pm at the end of June.

The alleged victim reported the man. He had had sexual intercourse with her against her will. The suspect did not confess. However, he is incriminated by the statements of two of the teenager’s friends and another man.

“It is true that there is a suspect known by name. The investigation is still ongoing and not all witnesses have been questioned yet. The incident is likely to have started consensually. Alcohol was also involved on the part of the victim,” says Ulrike Breiteneder of the Linz public prosecutor’s office about the state of the proceedings. The Afghan is still at large.

There is currently a legal standstill after an alleged gang rape at the end of March at Linz Central Station. At that time, three Afghans (all 15 years old) and an Iranian (14) allegedly attacked a 16-year-old girl. The alleged victim has still not been able to be questioned by the court due to her condition. “We don’t want to put pressure on the 16-year-old. You don’t want to cause additional harm to the victim. But of course we will try again to get a hearing,” said Breiteneder.

The Syrian (19) who allegedly raped a Ukrainian refugee girl (15) in Weyer at the beginning of May is also accused. According to witnesses, the boy and the girl approached each other and then disappeared. The day after next, the 15-year-old girl, accompanied by her brother, filed a complaint with the police.
