Germany: Libyan injures 3 passers-by with a broken bottle, some of them life-threatening

Last Wednesday ( July 14), the Munich police were successful in arresting the man who had injured three people, some of them fatally, on the Reichenbach Bridge in the night of June 20.

On the night in question, the man, who has since been arrested, got into an argument with a 37-year-old man from the district of Rosenheim. He attacked him with a bottle and injured his face. Due to this altercation, a 28-year-old man from Munich wanted to call the emergency services. The suspect then probably also attacked him with a bottle or a broken bottle fragment and hit him on the neck.

The 28-year-old suffered a serious and severe neck injury as a result of the attack, which had to be treated by police officers until the arrival of the ambulance service. He was taken to hospital for in-patient treatment and underwent emergency surgery. A 19-year-old acquaintance of the victim (resident in the district of Munich) was also slightly injured in the head by a bottle thrown at her. The 37-year-old suffered several injuries to his face and had to be treated as an outpatient in hospital. The suspect was able to flee before the police arrived.

The police were looking for witnesses after the incident and asked for video and photo recordings. In the meantime, the investigators were able to identify a 23-year-old Libyan as the suspect. At the request of the homicide department of the Munich I public prosecutor’s office, the competent investigating judge issued an arrest warrant for attempted murder against the fugitive as early as June 25.

On July 14, police were finally able to locate the wanted man in a flat in Neuaubing. At around 9.35 p.m., special forces arrested the suspect.

In the course of Thursday, the accused will be brought before the competent investigating judge for the issuing of the arrest warrant. Afterwards, he will be detained in a correctional institution.
