Yesterday (17 September 2026, 2.00 pm), a man poured a flammable liquid onto the steps in front of the Bergische Synagogue in the Barmen district of Wuppertal and set it alight. The fire was extinguished immediately. The suspect (aged 37) was arrested by police officers near the scene of the crime. According to initial findings, the 37-year-old man, an Afghan national known to the police, acted alone. The State Security Service has launched an investigation.
