A father of a pupil, an Algerian national with regular residence status and no criminal record, who is accused of violence and terrorist threats against a pupil, was taken into police custody on Thursday January 15, according to France Info, citing a source close to the case, Radio ICI Occitanie, and the public prosecutor’s office in Albi. The incident took place in Saint-Benoit-de-Carmaux (Tarn, population 2,060) at the Augustin Malroux school. The man attacked a pupil and school staff. No one was injured.

According to information obtained by France Info, this violent incident occurred after an argument between pupils. The suspect is accused of threatening bloodshed and referring to the murder of Samuel Paty. Paty, a history and geography teacher, was killed on October 16, 2020, near his high school in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines) after showing caricatures of Mohammed in class.
