Two individuals behaving in a threatening manner were arrested in succession in Montpellier on Friday, October 10. One was arrested in the Plan des 4-Seigneurs neighbourhood, the other on Place de la Comédie.
One individual was ranting in the street, shouting ‘Allah akbar’ and verbally abusing passers-by: A man was arrested by the national police on Friday, October 10, in the morning on Avenue du Pic Saint-Loup in the Plan des 4-Seigneurs district of Montpellier.

Residents had alerted the police when they saw this man bumping into a young girl in particular and behaving conspicuously. When he saw the police officers, he lunged at them and kicked them.
The 28-year-old man of Algerian nationality refused to comment on the allegations against him. After his arrest, he was taken to the Toulouse deportation centre due to his irregular residence status in France.
At 6:30 p.m. on the same day, a city police patrol was approached by a woman on Place de la Comédie who also shouted ‘Allah akbar’ and declared that she would kill the police officers. The officers were able to arrest her, even though she had put her hand in a large bag, which was considered potentially threatening behaviour.
