A Muslim dating app promotes ‘love according to the rules of the Prophet.’ In reality, it opens the door to radical preachers and degrades women to objects under guardianship. Religious rules for dating are nothing unusual in the Muslim world. However, the app ‘Half of my deen’ takes this to a whole new level, right here among us. Where equality and personal freedom should be a given, platforms are emerging that teach the opposite. Those who sign up are not entering a harmless dating world, but a system of control.
The first steps already show where this is going: every message is checked by administrators, every interaction monitored. Before any conversation is even possible, questions about Islamic preachers must be answered. And this is where it becomes extremely dangerous: names such as Pierre Vogel, Sven Lau and Abou-Nagie appear – preachers who have been under observation by the German domestic intelligence service for years.
This means that anyone who uses this app is also moving in the wake of Islamists. It is not just about finding a partner, but about ideological conformity. Young people find themselves in an environment that leaves no room for doubt or critical questions, but only for conformity with a radical interpretation of Islam.
The true nature of the app is most clearly revealed in the rules for women. They are only allowed to participate with a male guardian, the so-called wali, who is their father, brother or son. Without this permission, nothing is possible. This means that what should have been overcome long ago in Germany is being perpetuated digitally: women are not self-determined, but supplicants in their own lives, and what they do depends on the consent of a man in their immediate environment.
The fact that such a concept is being massively promoted and used not only somewhere in the Middle East, but in the heart of Europe, is madness and sets our society back hundreds of years. While Western societies struggle for every nuance of equality, a parallel system is quietly establishing itself here in which women’s fundamental rights are simply being undermined.

It is not enough to dismiss such phenomena as a ‘cultural peculiarity’. An app that disenfranchises women and courts Islamist preachers does not contribute to integration, but rather opens the door to regression. Anyone who takes equality seriously must clearly identify these developments and prevent the emergence of a parallel digital legal system in our cities that is incompatible with our values.
