France: A father of a pupil breaks into the school carrying an Islamic prayer rug and causes the pupils to be taken to safety. The police point a gun at his head before arresting him

A father of a pupil broke into the Louis Gallouedec school in Saint-Jean-de-Braye at around 4pm on Thursday afternoon, October 17. The man, who was caught with a prayer mat in his hand, was arrested by the police. The pupils, who had already been trapped during an exercise that morning, were then taken to safety.

The person was arrested by the National Police after being confronted at gunpoint in front of other parents who had come to collect their children. On Friday morning, a meeting was held at the Gallouédec school with the headmistress, an academic inspector and the parents to clarify what had happened.

The offence was reclassified as ‘trespassing in a school’ and the person will be punished with a fifth class misdemeanour (the most serious category of misdemeanour, up to a 1,500 euro fine). The Orléans public prosecutor’s office confirmed to France Bleu that the person concerned had been charged in criminal proceedings.
