French teen boxing champion stabbed to death by Algerian migrant outside nightclub

The 17-year-old teen had recently become boxing champion in his category in Normandy.

An Algerian migrant has been arrested in France on suspicion of stabbing to death a French teenage boxing champion outside a nightclub.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Subles, near Bayeu, Normandy in the parking lot of the Octavia nightclub.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Nasser Bekaddour, of Algerian nationality, was apprehended by a nightclub security guard at around 6:40 a.m. and held until police arrived.

He is accused of stabbing 17-year-old Kylian Binard in the throat and the back after a fight broke out as the two were leaving the establishment.

According to the owner, both men were first-time visitors to the club and were members of the last two groups to leave the club. There had been no altercations between the pair earlier in the night to alert security staff, he insisted.

Kylian Binard, a rising star in the boxing world and champion of Normandy, had reportedly been enjoying a night out when the altercation unfolded. Despite immediate attempts to save his life, including efforts by the nightclub manager’s companion, Binard died at the scene.

Caen’s public prosecutor JoĂ«l Garrigue confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Surveillance footage from the nightclub has been seized to assist in determining the exact circumstances leading to the attack.

Bekaddour remains in police custody as authorities continue their inquiries.

The local community is left mourning the tragic loss of a young athlete whose promising career was cut short in an act of sudden violence.
