Death threats, beatings and rape: A family man from Turkey will have to answer for these allegations at Bielefeld District Court starting on August 18. The simple reason for the offences, according to the prosecution: the wife wanted to take off her headscarf and go to work after arriving in Germany. As well as in Herford, the attacks on the wife and children are also alleged to have taken place in Frankfurt, Giessen and Bonn.
The accused was initially accommodated in Frankfurt am Main. He had arrived in Germany with his wife and three children in 2023. In the metropolis on the river Main, the man allegedly threatened his wife with death on four occasions and threatened to abduct the children to Turkey when she expressed her desire to work in Germany. He is also alleged to have beaten and kicked the woman on other occasions. It is also alleged that he raped her.
In an accommodation centre in Giessen, he is said to have locked his family in their room. Finally, in the central accommodation centre in Bonn, he is said to have squeezed his wife’s jaw shut with one hand. The result: tooth and cheek pain for over a week. The accused is said to have tried to dissuade his wife from no longer wanting to wear the headscarf. He also assaulted their son.
In the Central Accommodation Centre (ZUE) in Herford, the man is said to have threatened to kill his family members if the son could not convince his mother to accompany his father back to Turkey. In addition, he is said to have strangled his wife for about a minute. Finally, the accused allegedly tried to take the children back to Turkey against his wife’s will. A total of five trial days have been scheduled for the proceedings.
