A pair of feminist authors from France have warned that their country risks making the same “mistakes” as the UK following the release of their scathing new “gender-critical” book.
Dora Moutot, 36, and Marguerite Stern, 33, have seen their book “Transmania: an Investigation into the Excesses of Transgender Ideology” exceed sales by thousands – and its publisher has already printed a further 20,000 copies.
The book decries what the duo have called “the greatest conceptional heist of the century” by pro-trans activists, whose “ideology”, they claim, is “infiltrating every sphere of society” and tries to “transform our relationship with reality”.
In “Transmania”, the pair say that stating “women are Homo Sapiens females and men are Homo Sapiens males” has become impossible without being attacked and censored.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Moutot said the book’s sales represent “a kind of anti-woke vote, a popular vote by certain people who saw the incredible censorship surrounding this book and bought it out of a spirit of resistance”.
After Moutot received death threats in Strasbourg earlier this week, fellow gender-critical author JK Rowling leapt to her defence online, saying: “As someone whose death has been demanded on placards for exactly the same reason (knowing ‘woman’ isn’t a feeling in a man’s head), I send Dora Moutot love and solidarity.”
In response, Stern expressed support for the under-fire Harry Potter author, saying: “I admire her for her courage. I agree with everything she says. She must have had a very comfortable life before, which is not at all the case now.
“She got the same treatment as we did. When we realised that an international figure like that was getting such a pummelling by the French media, with so little nuance, we knew what to expect.”
The authors received further threats on Monday outside Paris’s Pantheon-Assas University, where they were given 15 riot police vans’ worth of attention upon their arrival.
Protesters outside the institution branded them “Terfs” – trans exclusionary radical feminists – and chanted: “A Terf, a bullet, social justice.”
Moutot said: “I can’t stay at home, they have my address and I have received death threats, so I’ve moved out temporarily.”
“It’s as if France were in a bubble, completely closing its ears to what’s going on internationally, and the mistakes made in the UK, the countries of Northern Europe.
“France is always behind the curve on Britain on such issues – when I’ve spoken to English people, they’ve told me: ‘In France, you’re not going to fall for that.’ Well, in fact, it’s even worse here because we should know better.”
But Stern remained bullish, telling the Telegraph: “There are a lot of people out there today who feel that there’s an issue with transgender ideology, but who find it hard to put words to it, who are really seeking information.”
“We’ll be sending this book to ministers, MPs, people who have the power to change things. They will be warned.”
“We’re branded ‘right’ or ‘far-right’, but it is the left that rejected us… We have to thank the right for giving this issue the exposure it deserves and for taking the measure of considering it an important issue.”
