On Sunday September 3, a couple reported to the police in Athis-Mons to draw attention to Arabic tags on the wall of the administrative centre of the town hall and the amphitheatre, Valeurs actuelles learned from a police source. The couple reported that on Friday September 1, at around 8pm, they had happened upon the person who had put up the graffiti.
As they are both of Tunisian origin, they were able to translate what was written there, which they said was “Allah is great”. They stated that they had also heard the man recite verses from the Koran several times while looking at the writing. The couple filmed the scene but did not call the police.

The next day, Saturday September 2, when the couple passed by the administration centre again, they discovered new tags which they translated as follows: “God will restore order. To God we will return.” Concerned by this discovery and worried that it could be a potentially dangerous person, they reported the matter to the Athis-Mons police station.

The detective on duty and the criminal investigation department then went to the scene to assess the facts. They discovered the tags in the place indicated by the couple as well as on the plaque with the declaration of human and civil rights on the wall of the administrative centre.

The officers requested the seizure of CCTV footage recorded by the cameras present at the town hall to find the author or authors of the graffiti. Photos of the person taken from the video handed over by the couple were circulated locally. The department’s territorial intelligence unit was notified.
