The Regional Court in Dresden sentenced Mohammad Omid A. (26) to nine years in prison on Thursday. The Afghan stabbed his ex-girlfriend Sabrina G. (23) in her flat in January 2023, ramming a combat knife into her neck and chest while their son (1) was in the next room. The young mother barely survived the attempted murder.
Mohammad Omid A. had come to Germany as a refugee in 2015. Five years ago, he met the young woman in Meißen and they both moved to Dresden. The young mother reported in court that he chastised her with kicks and blows, isolating her from her friends. “He kept me like a slave,” said the housekeeper, who was the sole breadwinner for the family.
In October 2022, the young mother separated from the Afghan, applied for sole custody – yet he was still allowed to see his son regularly. On January 4, 2023, the situation escalated in her flat. He accused her of having a new boyfriend and pulled out the knife. “Are you going to kill me now?” Sabrina G. asked her ex-boyfriend – then he stabbed her.
During the trial it came out that Mohammad Omid A. had announced to his family in Afghanistan that he would kill his ex-girlfriend. When the young woman was lying on the floor bleeding and screaming for help, he stuffed the baby’s spit-up cloth into her mouth, took a photo of the victim covered in blood and sent it to his mother.
Unbelievable: According to the mobile phone analysis, his mother allegedly replied that he should not bother with the infidel and grab his son. However, Mohammad Omid A. called a friend while still in the flat, who finally convinced him to call the police.
The emergency services rushed to Maternistraße in Dresden, a policewoman took the child out of the flat. The young mother was brought to the hospital seriously injured, still has signs of paralysis in her arm and large scars on her body and soul.
Judge Jürgen Scheuring (55) said to the Afghan: “What kind of person are you? From the act itself, it was attempted murder!” But because the accused then called the police, he had – as the lawyers say – withdrawn from the crime and was therefore only convicted of dangerous bodily harm.
