France: Man shouting “Allahu Akbar” sets fire to apartment block

The 50-year-old man, who was also armed with a knife, was arrested. Nine people suffered minor cases of poisoning from the smoke.

It is the story of an arson in a flat that could have ended in tragedy. On Saturday morning, a neighbour raised the alarm. She had just heard a man shouting “Allah Akbar” in her apartment block in Impasse de l’Epi in Avignon. After a short time, she could also smell something burning. When she left her flat, she discovered that a flat on the first floor below her own was on fire. No one in the neighbourhood was surprised. Everyone knows the resident, a man in his 50s who suffers from mental health problems and has been making life difficult for his neighbours for many months. At around 9.30 a.m. yesterday, the first fire engines and police vehicles entered the tiny street that runs parallel to the Montfavet road. La Provence

Former Finnish Interior Minister Faces Another Trial Over Posting Bible Verses, Despite Acquittal

Senior Finnish politician Päivi Räsänen is facing being hauled through the courts again over “homophobic” Tweets and writings going back 20 years, despite having been acquitted in the case twice already.

The Finnish Public Prosecutor is appealing a November 2023 court decision that Päivi Räsänen, a long-serving member of Parliament, party leader, and former national interior minister was exercising free speech when she quoted the bible and discussed homosexuality on several occasions from 2004 to 2019. Räsänen is the former leader of the Finnish Christian Democrats Party and holds orthodox views on the issue, having described homosexuality as a “disorder of psychosexual development” in the past and quoted verses from St. Paul’s letter to the Romans on Instagram.

The District Court of Helsinki has already acquitted Räsänen unanimously on the hate speech charges in 2022, which were filed under the part of Finland’s criminal code which deals with “war crimes and crimes against humanity”, ruling “it is not for the district court to interpret biblical concepts”. This was appealed, taking it to the Helsinki Court of Appeal which again dismissed the case unanimously, and on the same grounds, in November of last year.

The Public Prosecutor is now pushing the matter up to the Supreme Court, reports Finnish public broadcaster YLE, claiming it wants to settle the relationship “between freedom of religion and freedom of speech and the prohibition of discrimination, and when expressions must be considered as punishable hate speech”. The prosecutor is calling for hefty fines and censorship of Räsänen’s writings.

The fresh prosecution is apparently going ahead despite Räsänen’s Christian Democrats Party now being in government, as part of the new Finnish right-wing coalition.

The Alliance Defending Freedom International (ADF), which has supported Räsänen, has called the dogged determination of the prosecutor to get a conviction out of Räsänen concerning and suggested the prosecutor was using the endless court cases as a means to punish Räsänen, even if they never end in a sentence.

Paul Coleman, Executive Director of ADF, said of the case: “Dragging people through the courts for years, subjecting them to hour-long police interrogations, and wasting taxpayer money in order to police people’s deeply held beliefs has no place in a democratic society. As is so often the case in ‘hate speech’ trials, the process has become the punishment.”

Räsänen herself remains bullish, vowing to fight and welcoming the chance to get another ruling in her favour in the highest court of the land, which would set a strong precedent in favour of free speech.

She is reported to have said: “After my full exoneration in two courts, I’m not afraid of a hearing before the Supreme Court. Even though I am fully aware that every trial carries risks, an acquittal from the Supreme Court would set an even stronger positive precedent for everyone’s right to free speech and religion. And if the Court decided to overturn the lower courts’ acquittals, I am ready to defend freedom of speech and religion as far as the European Court of Human rights, if necessary”.

Catholic Church in Greece on same-sex marriage: “It is a point of decline of Greek society”

The Holy Synod of Catholic Bishops of Greece made their first statement as the same-sex marriage and parenting debate intensifies, stating that if it were to be introduced, it would be a “point of decline of Greek society.”

The announcement:

“The government’s legislative initiative regarding marriage for same-sex couples is being promoted with the excuse that it settles outstanding issues, satisfies fair demands for equality and human rights of some citizens.

“First of all, the claim that marriage is simply a legal construction based on the competence of the legislator or on the will of individual groups of citizens based on their sexual orientation or, in general, their choices is unfounded. The argument that invokes equal rights between citizens is also unfounded because the heterosexual couple and the same-sex couple are different realities.

“In particular, the government’s proposal changes the definition of marriage and family, a fact that affects all Greek society, all families, all citizens, all parents, all children, and in general social mores. In this case, it changes the concept of parental responsibility. It changes the concept of father and mother and their responsibility in raising their children. It changes the composition of the family and the contribution of the two biological parents to family life.

“The legislative proposal under discussion denies children the right to live with a father and mother and denies the model of father and mother, the otherness that constitutes the human psyche. It denies children the knowledge of their origin and identity. It introduces a new mentality and mindset in education and our country’s schools.

“The settlement of outstanding issues concerning children who were, for various reasons, the responsibility of same-sex couples or inheritance and financial matters could be settled by legislation without adopting marriage for same-sex couples, with changes that have no precedent in the history of mankind.

“This proposal is a setback to our legal culture, a setback to morals and culture in general. It is a point of decline of Greek society; every society that wants to be called human is a product of arrogance and self-centeredness that knows no limits to individual desire and will.

“We are troubled by the submissiveness of our political world to the wishes and whims of a certain internationally promoted ideological trend. Greece is a country with a centuries-old, rich tradition that culturally nourished European and world culture. It cannot deny its tradition and identity and submit to ideological proposals and perceptions without moral and cultural background, without wisdom and sensitivity to cultural and religious heritage.

“We, the Catholic Bishops in Greece, in agreement with the worldwide Catholic Church, confess that all people without exception, whatever their situation and life, are called with the same love by God to know and accept him in Christ’s gift of the fullness of life. All Christians must keep this call before our eyes. In addition, as pastors, we also have to explain what cooperates with God’s completion of man and what opposes it, according to the Word of God and the historical experience of the Church.

“We therefore want to declare our complete opposition to the change in the meaning of marriage and family that is being attempted to be imposed on society. We repeat that marriage is a bond between a man and a woman, exclusive and permanent; its natural fruit is children, in the upbringing of which the father and the mother have joint and inalienable obligations, which the state must respect since they also pre-exist with the same.

“As pastors of the Catholic Church in Greece, we want to emphasise that the call to marriage is inscribed in the very nature of man and woman as created by the Creator… even if the sanctity of this institution is not evident everywhere in the same way. However, there is a sense of the greatness of the union of marriage in all cultures. The happiness of man and human and Christian society is closely connected with the successful union of marriage and family. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 1602 and 1603)

“The conscientious Christian, the consistent Catholic believer, but also the citizen of goodwill who aims for the common good of society, precisely because he believes in the fundamental importance and sanctity of the institution of marriage and the family, cannot accept the socially harmful arrangements of the declared promoted legislative initiative.

Greece’s government set to legalise same-sex marriage with the backing of the opposition.

A plan to legalise same-sex civil marriage and adoption pushed by the centre-right Greek government is set to be approved by Parliament thanks to the backing of the left-wing opposition, despite backlash from the Orthodox Church.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s plans to legalise same-sex marriage in the country and allow adoption for LGBTQ+ couples obtained the crucial backing of the left-wing opposition on Thursday.

Stefanos Kasselakis, the openly gay ex-banker leading the radical left party Syriza, said that he would instruct his 38 lawmakers to vote for the proposal, even though he criticised the measure for not going far enough on parenthood rights.

Kasselakis, who married his husband in New York in October 2023, has expressed the desire to have children through a surrogate mother—a practice that has recently received condemnation by Pope Francis and which has been made illegal in Italy.

The new measure pushed forward by Mitsotakis doesn’t allow same-sex couples to acquire children through surrogate motherhood in the future. Full parental rights would be granted to same-sex couples that already have children.

The country currently only allows that procedure in the cases of women – single or married – who are unable to bear children on health grounds. As well as heterosexual couples, single men or women are allowed to adopt.

A previous draft of the law proposed earlier this week would have allowed the right to parenthood through surrogate mothers.

In an interview with private Star TV, the politician said that despite its “imperfections”, the proposal unveiled by the prime minister on Wednesday contains “some positive elements”.

Greece has already legalised same-sex partnerships in 2015.

The backing of the opposition would ensure that the law passes the 300-seat parliament despite a dozen lawmakers in Mitsotakis’s centre-right party, New Democracy, objecting to it. The party has a total of 158 lawmakers in parliament.

Kasselakis has criticised the prime minister for refusing to force all of his lawmakers to back a human rights issue, calling out his “political cowardice.” Mitsotakis was reelected for his second term in a landslide victory only six months ago.

But the most vocal criticism of the plan has come from the country’s Orthodox Church, which still wields a massive influence on Greece and has warned that the law could be the first step in the dismantling of Greek society. According to the church, allowing for same-sex marriage is the first step towards gay families assuming parental rights.

But Mitsotakis has fought back on the criticism, saying that they would listen to the views of the Church, but ultimately, “it is the state that legislates.”

“What we are going to legislate is marriage equality, which means the elimination of any discrimination based on sexual orientation,” he said in an interview with country broadcaster ERT. “It is not something radically different from what applies in other European countries.”

Right-wing parties in parliament also oppose the measure.

Opinion polls suggest Greeks are evenly divided on the issue of same-sex marriage but opposed to extending full parental rights to gay or lesbian couples.

A poll by Pulse for Skai gathered responses from 1,107 participants between December 18 and 20 and found that 52% of respondents harbour a positive view on same-sex marriage, with a notable 20% in full support and an additional 32% expressing no objection. A substantial minority of 33% would prefer that same-sex marriage not be legalised in Greece.

According to an ALCO poll, the ruling New Democracy is recording losses due to the debate on same-sex marriage, mainly towards the right-wing Greek Solution, with 49% openly disagreeing with same-sex marriage (58% among New Democracy voters), while 35% of respondents appear in favour (28% of New Democracy voters).

“Multiple Sclerosis is a punishment from Allah,” Turkish researcher claims. 7 such reports by him published in medical journals now retracted

(R) Professor Hüseyin çaksen (Source: Tamgaturk.com)

A Turkish professor has reportedly claimed in one of his research papers that Multiple Sclerosis disease is a “punishment from Allah”. Hüseyin Çaksen in his academic paper said that “many patients attributed the cause of their disease to supernatural causes with the religious context in many cultures in the world.”

An Ankara-based academician Urartu Şeker first tweeted about the works of Çaksen, who is a professor at the Necmettin Erbakan University and has published several research papers.

Şeker took to X, formerly Twitter, on 5th January, saying that the professor “almost blasphemed science”.

He wrote, “A faculty member of the Faculty of Medicine says that MS disease has supernatural causes; Saying that MS patients are sick because they are punished by God or put to the test is rude, to say the least! It’s terrible that he can print these garbage ideas as an editorial article. How this person, who almost blasphemed science, became a Professor is truly frightening! He also proved that H-index has no meaning on its own because h-index is 34!”

Şeker shared a screenshot of an excerpt from the paper published by Hüseyin Çaksen wherein he advises that health professionals should be trained about supernatural causes with religious context.

“In conclusion, we would like to emphasize that many MS patients attributed the cause of their disease to supernatural causes with the religious context in many cultures in the world. They have not shared that belief with health professionals because of fear of their reactions. Second, although it cannot be proven scientifically, we strongly believe that the main cause of the disease in some MS patients is supernatural causes such as fate, Allah’s will, and a gift or a test from Allah have found peace and comfort psychologically, mentally, and spiritually. Therefore, we believe that health professionals should be trained about supernatural causes with religious context and MS patients should be encouraged to discuss their supernatural beliefs with healthcare professionals, the except read.

The article titled “The importance of Religion, spirituality, and spiritual care in patients with Multiple Sclerosis” is only one among several such papers published by the Turkish professor.

A website called Retraction Watch reported that seven of Çaksen’s research papers were retracted by journal publishers which included the Journal of Pediatric Neurology, the Journal of Child Science, and the Journal of Pediatric Epilepsy. Feyza Çaksen is a co-author of two.

The seven retracted papers are:

22nd May 2023: “The Importance of Religion, Spirituality and Spiritual Care in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis” in Journal of Pediatric Neurology.

26th May 2023: “Hijab Protects Adolescent Girls and Women from Sexual Harassment” published in Journal of Pediatric Neurology.

16th November 2016: “Islamic Psychology: Historical Notes from Herbert George Wells (1866-1946) in Journal of Pediatric Neurology.

4th May 2023: “Marriage and Marital Fidelity in Interparental Relationship: A View from Religious Perspective” published in Journal of Child Science.

4th May 2023: “The Role of Religious Coping in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit” published in Journal of Child Science.

20th March 2023: “Ruqyah and Its Use among Patients with Cancer” published in Journal of Child Science.

June 2023: “Neonatal Hypoglycemia: Oral Dextrose Gel and Tahneek Practice” published in the Journal of Pediatric Epilepsy

The highly Islamist nature of these academic papers suggests just how far they are from scientific facts and attempt to Islamise the medical and scientific fraternity. According to the notices issued by the journals, the papers have been retracted as they “lack scientific base”. How this was missed in the peer review is unclear, Retraction Watch reported.

Another publication Duvar English pointed that one of the other such articles published by Çaksen was “The Sacrifice of Ismail by His Father Ibrahim (Alayhi As-Salam): An Example of Surrender for Today’s Children and Parents” and “Hijab Protects Girls and Women from Sexual Harassment” published in Journal of Pediatric Neurology.

Şeker reportedly pointed out that the editor-in-chief of the journal completed his medical residency in the Faculty of Medicine of the Necmettin Erbakan University at the same time when Çaksen was pursuing second residency there.

New French Minister targeted over past opposition to gay marriage

Nosta Lgia

France’s new Government under openly gay Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has some other notable figures in its ranks causing feathers to be ruffled.

The promotion of Catherine Vautrin to Minister of labour, health and solidarity has attracted attention because she was an outspoken opponent of gay marriage.

Joël Deumier, co-president of LGBT support organisation SOS Homophobie, said he and his members were “extremely worried” about her appointment. He accuses Vautrin of having “fuelled homophobia”.

On X, SOS Homophobie wrote: “The appointment of many hostile or very ambiguous ministers towards LGBTI rights, whose positions have fuelled anti-LGBTI hatred, is very worrying, as LGBTI-phobia takes root and persists in French society.

“We are also very concerned about the application of the Government’s plan for #LGBTI equality by the ministers whose appointments have been announced.”

On the same platform, the Green Party member and Deputy Mayor of Paris, David Belliard, said that France had “hit rock bottom” with her appointment.

“Catherine Vautrin campaigned against marriage for all … ” he wrote.

Maxime Haes, spokesperson for gay-rights group Stop Homophobia, said the appointment gave a “bad signal” and “raises questions”.

A decade ago, Vautrin took part in demonstrations by anti-gay marriage and gay-couple adoption organisation La Manif Pour Tous. She also voted against “marriage equality” in 2013.

In 2023, Vautrin expressed her regret over the vote against said law. She stated: “Anticipating societal expectations is crucial in politics. Ten years ago, by not voting for marriage for all, I missed this crucial juncture that has now become obvious.

Deumier is not convinced. “The entry of figures openly hostile to LGBT rights has the effect of a ‘cold shower’,” he stated.

Vautrin has a Conservative background and supported the then-French president Nicolas Sarkozy in the past. Over the past couple of years she has backed current President Emmanuel Macron, publicly endorsing him in 2022.

“During the crises, those of the yellow vests and Covid, he showed his ability to bounce back, to lead the country. All these elements make me think that he is the man for the job,” she said about Macron at the time.

LGBTI campaigners are also concerned about the new culture minister Rachida Dati.

Dati warned in 2019 of a risk of “fracturing” society with the opening up of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) to all women. She also refused to vote either way in a 2018 poll in the European Parliament on banning “conversion therapy”, practices that claim to “cure” LGBT people.

It is unlikely the new French Government will turn its back on the gay agenda. Attal used to be in a civil partnership with Stéphane Séjourné, who left the European Parliament to become the new French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs. They are said to have kept up a “good” relationship.

Many see the new appointments as indicating a rightward shift by Macron, spurred by the successes of Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella of the National Rally party (RN).

On the political Left, members are not amused.

“Vautrin, Dati, it’s the Sarkozy IV government,” stated the National Secretary of the Europe Ecology-The Greens (EELV) party Marine Tondelier.

Olivier Faure, the First Secretary of the Socialist Party, said on X about Attal’s speech: “The ‘regeneration’ is therefore that of the Sarkozy dinosaurs.”

Fabien Roussel, the National Secretary of the French Communist Party, made a similar remark: “Welcome to the Sarkozy government!”

On the Right, Eric Zemmour poked fun at Les Republicains, of which Dati was a member until she was ejected once she became a minister in the new Government under Attal.

On X , in an apparent quip, he wrote: “My wife left for another. Is it final? – Yes. What are you going to do? – I think I’m going to leave her.”

eBay employees harassed blogger couple by sending cockroaches, pig mask etc, put up their names on Craigslist as sex workers, company agrees to pay $3 million penalty

EBay has agreed to pay a $3 million criminal fine after employees harassed a blogger couple for their coverage of the company, including sending them live cockroaches and a foetal pig, a bloody pig mask, live insects and a book on surviving the death of a spouse. The victims were David and Ina Steiner, a married couple from Natick, Massachusetts, who publishes the newsletter EcommerceBytes and had sued eBay for what they claim is a relentless campaign by eBay employees to “terrorise” them.

eBay has settled into a deferred prosecution deal after being charged with two counts of stalking through interstate travel, two counts of stalking through electronic communications services, one act of witness tampering, and one count of obstruction of justice. According to the deal, eBay consented to a comprehensive recitation of all pertinent facts concerning its conduct and agreed to pay a $3 million criminal penalty, which is the statutory maximum amount for these six criminal offences.

Moreover, eBay will be compelled to keep an independent corporate compliance monitor for three years and to significantly enhance its compliance program.

“The company’s employees and contractors involved in this campaign put the victims through pure hell, in a petrifying campaign aimed at silencing their reporting and protecting the eBay brand,” acting U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy said.

The newsletter’s publisher and editor, the Steiners, have also filed a federal lawsuit against the e-commerce giant, alleging how cyberstalking and distressing deliveries of anonymously supplied goods affected their lives.

Ina Steiner received unsettling and occasionally threatening tweets, as well as dozens of weird emails from organisations such as an IBS patient support organisation and the Communist Party of the United States.

Alongside a box with live spiders and cockroaches, the couple received a funeral wreath, a bloody pig mask, and a book “Grief Diaries” about surviving the loss of a spouse. Their home address was also advertised online, along with invitations to yard sales and parties.

“Take her down”, eBay chief executive told another official referring to Ina Steiner

The harassment began in 2019 after Ina Steiner published a piece about a lawsuit filed by eBay that accused Amazon of poaching its sellers.

According to prosecutors, top executives considered the Steiners’ newsletter to be critical of eBay, and in August 2019, then-Chief Executive Devin Wenig told another executive that it was time to “take her down,” referring to Ina Steiner.

Notably, Wenig, who stepped down as CEO of eBay in September 2019, was not charged, and his spokesperson stated that Wenig had “absolutely zero knowledge” of the actions taken by eBay employees.

According to the US Department of Justice, “between approximately August 5, 2019, and Aug. 23, 2019, Jim Baugh, eBay’s former Senior Director of Safety and Security, and six other members of eBay’s security team targeted the victims for their roles in publishing a newsletter that reported on issues of interest to eBay sellers. Senior executives at eBay were frustrated with the newsletter’s tone and content, and with the comments posted beneath the newsletter’s articles. The harassment campaign arose from communications between those executives and Baugh.”

eBay employees put up names of Steiners on Craiglist for sexual activities

eBay’s Baugh, a former CIA operative along with accomplices ran a vicious harassment campaign “intended to intimidate the victims and change the content of the newsletter’s reporting.” Shockingly, other than sending live insects etc, the eBay employees made Craigslist posts inviting the public for sexual encounters at the residence of the victim couple.

eBay employees gave false statements to police, attempted to mislead the investigators

The victims noticed the surveillance squad and alerted local authorities. Upon learning of the investigation by the Natick Police Department, Baugh lied to both police and internal investigators. He and his accomplices deleted digital evidence associated with the cyberstalking campaign and fabricated documents to divert the attention of the investigating authorities.

eBay CEO apologises to Steiners for harassment campaign by its employees

In a statement issued on 11th January, eBay’s present CEO Jamie Lanone apologised for the wrongdoing of its employees in the past and said that “the company’s conduct in 2019 was wrong and reprehensible.” Lanone further apologised to the victim couple and said, “We continue to extend our deepest apologies to the Steiners for what they endured. Since these events occurred, new leaders have joined the company and eBay has strengthened its policies, procedures, controls and training. eBay remains committed to upholding high standards of conduct and ethics and to making things right with the Steiners.”

Notably, eBay’s former Senior Director of Safety and Security Jim Baugh was sentenced to 57 months in jail in September 2022. Others in the case have been sentenced to house confinement to two years in prison.

Man Who Identifies As A Muslim Woman Sues City Of New York After Being Incarcerated With Men While Awaiting Trial On Domestic Abuse Charges

A trans-identified male is suing the City of New York after he was placed in a men’s detention center while awaiting transfer to another state on charges related to domestic violence. Ali Miles, formerly known as Dylan Miles, is demanding over $22,000,000 in compensation for discrimination on the basis of his gender identity.

Miles, who identifies as a Muslim woman, was incarcerated at the George R. Vierno Center on Rikers Island from June to July of 2022. His custody was a holding prior to his transfer to another state, as he had warrants for his arrest in the state of Arizona. He was then transferred to Yavapai County Jail where he was ultimately tried and found guilty of two counts of aggravated harassment per domestic violence, a Class 5 felony, for instances dated in November 2021 and February 2022.

He was also found guilty of disorderly conduct, harassment, threatening or intimidating, and false reporting to a law enforcement agency, which are all Class 1 misdemeanors.

In October of 2022, he was placed on supervised probation for a period of three years and sentenced to 312 days in jail, with credit added for the 132 days he had already been held there. Miles was also subject to a domestic violence assessment.

But Miles is now taking to the court to sue to the City of New York for detaining him with other males while he was awaiting transfer to Arizona. The suit argues that Miles faced discrimination, assault, and human rights violations after being placed with men.

In addition to the City of New York, other defendants listed on the suit are the Department of Corrections Rikers Island, the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, and multiple individuals whose identities have been anonymized.

From the lawsuit filed by Miles on August 24, 2023.

While asserting that he “wears women’s clothing and in all appearance expresses as a person of the female gender,” the filing argues that Miles was housed in a male facility at Rikers despite allegedly having a court order directing his placement to the female unit.

The suit reveals that following his arrest, Miles informed a judge that he was transgender, and required special housing accommodations to which a judge reportedly agreed. The court file and orders were then marked to notify the prison and their Intake Personnel that Miles was to be housed in the female section of Rikers, but he was not.

“As Miles approached the inside of the building, Miles realized it was a male jail which caused shock, panic and fright to Miles,” the suit reads, referring to Miles using feminine pronouns. “Miles requested and pleaded … that as an LGBTQIA+ individual who was transgendered, she required and needed an accommodation, and that she should not be placed in a male population jail.”

Miles then alleges that a prison staff member said “we don’t do the trans thing here.” He was then strip-searched by a male guard he alleges told him that he had “nice tits” and “one hell of a pussy.” This is despite Miles not having had any known genital surgeries.

Miles continues that he was routinely harassed, “misgendered” and subjected to humiliation during his detention at the George R. Vierno Center. In particular, Miles emphasizes his “sexual victimization” by multiple “African American male” inmates as a result of his placement in a male facility, one of which he alleges sodomized him using butter as lubricant.

Miles is seeking a minimum of $22,000,000 in compensation for the various mistreatments he claims, arguing that the prison’s “unlawful conduct was a direct result of Rikers’ pervasive practices, and customs of discrimination, deliberate indifference, against transgender people.”

Miles is a prolific litigant, and, as previously reported by Reduxx, has filed a number of suits alleging discrimination by various businesses.

In May of 2023, Miles filed a lawsuit against a New York yoga studio seeking compensation of $5,000,000 after employees reportedly asked him to use the men’s restroom instead of the women’s.

In the suit, Miles alleged that the personnel at Chelsea Yoga “deprived [him] of his civil rights because he is gay, undergoing a gender transition, and because Miles does not conform to … gender-based preferences, expectations, or stereotypes about how a man/woman should dress and conduct himself/herself.”

But shortly after that suit was launched, Reduxx learned that Miles had filed at least four other lawsuits, making similar claims of victimization in each.

In February of 2022, Miles filed a civil action for $75,000 in compensation against Sedona Soul Adventures, an Arizona-based business he had previously worked for. Miles alleged that the tourism company had wrongfully terminated his employment shortly after he was hired after subjecting him to “gender identity-based harassment and discrimination.” The suit was dismissed after an out-of-court agreement was reached.

One month later, Miles filed two separate civil actions — one against Planet Fitness and one against Bagel Point, both, again, on the basis of “gender identity-based harassment and discrimination.” In both, Miles represented himself, and failed to use consistent pronouns, often calling himself “Mr. Miles.”

In his poorly-written civil action, Miles alleged that staff at a Planet Fitness threatened to sound the “lunk alarm” on him for entering the women’s facilities, and used a slur when referring to him. The “lunk alarm” is a fixture seen at most Planet Fitness gyms intended to provide a humorous “warning” to those being too loud or obnoxious in the gym.

Miles demanded compensation of $10,000,000 from Planet Fitness, but the suit was ultimately dismissed after he failed to file the appropriate paperwork and pay $402 in filing fees as requested by the court.

In his action against Bagel Point, a cafe in Brooklyn, Miles sought $75,000 in damages alleging he had been wrongfully terminated and subjected to verbal abuse on the basis of his gender identity.

Miles had been an employee of Bagel Point for a short period of time, during which he claimed the owner, a Muslim woman, had referred to him using slurs and mocked his gender identity, as well as crafting “unsubstantiated” complaints about his performance. The action, which was poorly written and rife with spelling errors, was dismissed by the court once again after Miles failed to file the appropriate paperwork and pay $402 in filing fees.

In yet another suit, Miles sought compensation from New York Presbyterian Hospital, once again claiming to have faced discrimination on the basis of his gender identity. The suit was dismissed and an appeal was not filed.

While Miles’ past cases were quickly snuffed out of the court system, his most recent suit against the City of New York appears to be proceeding. Having previously represented himself unsuccessfully, Miles has retained an attorney for this suit who has requested the case be referred to the court’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program (ADR). The ADR is an alternative mediation-style arrangement targeted at speeding up settlement.

On January 10, the lawyers for the City of New York requested a time extension to review the details of the case, with the next hearing being set for February 22.
