“We are rebels out of fidelity”: An Interview with Julien Langella

Julien Langella was co-founder of the Generation Identitaire movement and is currently vice-president of the Academia Christiana association. He is the author of Catholics and Identitarians: From Protest to Reconquest and Remaking a People: For a Radical Populism.

This interview was conducted at the end of October 2023. On December 10, 2023, Academia Christiana announced that Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin instituted proceedings to dissolve the association.

Academia Christiana has just celebrated its tenth anniversary. What is your assessment of what it has achieved so far?

We are usually asked what our main victory has been, and after ten years our greatest victory is that we still exist and that we have grown beyond what we expected—not only in numbers, but also because we have crossed the barriers that divide the conservative landscape in France. At our first summer universities, we had about forty attendees. Now, more than three hundred attend, and more than 500 attended our last open days. On a socio-political level, we have managed to unite people coming from the bourgeoisie with those coming from the working class, and we have broken down the social barrier between the two groups. We have also managed to bring many young French people—people of good will who were not Catholics—closer to the faith, encouraging them to start asking questions, and that is what the Church asks us to do: to address people of good will.

Academia Christiana has a militant aspect that does not exist in many organisations linked to the faith. In many cases, other groups do not participate in political or social activities, choosing to focus only on the spiritual. How have you managed to unite politics and spirituality?

There are two explanations: a traditional one and a more modern one. The traditional explanation is due to the classical situation in France where, since the counter-revolution and the events of the Vendée, the defence of the ancien régime and the Church are united. The other explanation is because of a new generation: I am 36 years old and our president, Victor Aubert, is even younger. Tradition has encouraged these new converts to Catholicism who have grown up alongside the illiberal and anti-modern Left and the neo-pagan Right. It is clear to this generation that the truth is on their side and the main objective of Academia Christiana has been, from the beginning, to call for action. From this initial formation group, a community and a cultural movement has been forged, as well as a refuge and a stimulus for militants of the radical Right who face severe persecution by the government. For militant and committed Catholics, we are both the catacombs in which to take refuge and regain strength, and the banner that stands at the front of the fighters. We do politics in a noble sense, bringing together all the good initiatives of the political and radical Right.

The best example of such persecution was the outlawing of Generation Identitaire for denouncing immigration and Islamisation—basically for pointing out the incapabilities of the French government.

Yes, but it goes beyond the system’s hatred of patriotic radicalism. Liberal society’s means of maintaining itself is to take on a protective role that, under the pretext of neutrality and impartiality, lumps together eco-terrorists, leftists, Islamists, and identitarians. This protective role eliminates all radicalisms that fall outside the sphere of political parties. Just as the unvaccinated had no access to the public space, so radicals have no access to the agora. In France, this extends even to regional and local movements, which are now also under threat of being outlawed. Curiously, the person responsible for this policy is an interior minister who comes from the Catholic and conservative world. In fact, several ministers of the current government participated in the Manif pour Tous movement that demonstrated against the parody of same-sex marriage—and I say parody because same-sex marriage does not exist. Emmanuel Macron’s efforts to unite the bourgeoisie and all those attracted by “order” should not be underestimated.

Earlier you mentioned the Vendée. The French film Vaincre ou mourir (To Win or Die), which tells the story of the struggle of the counter-revolutionaries, has been a success. Is it a good example of what the cultural struggle should be?

Yes, it started with Puy du Fou [an historical theme park], which has normalised a part of French history. I can give you the example of a neighbour, a communist merchant from a communist family, who discovered the existence of the counter-revolutionaries thanks to Puy du Fou. As for Vaincre ou mourir, it is a film that goes beyond defending being a Catholic or not being a Republican. It is not a film in favour of religious freedom because, when you see it, you can’t take the side of the Republicans. The most interesting thing is that the principles that you see in the film are acceptable to the conservative bourgeoisie, but then nobody is able to take them out of the private sphere and defend them politically. I think that highlighting this fact adds a lot of value to the film.

What is Academia Christiana’s relationship with the Church?

We are the church militant and the Church is much more than its hierarchy. We have never been mistreated by our bishops and we have never received any pressure. However, many traditionalists have not liked the fact that we have opened up to non-Catholics, something that for us is a generational issue, since we have taken the word “identitarian” as a banner and as a meeting point for a wide variety of groups. We do not complain about the Church, but about the cowardice and lukewarmness of many of our friends. However, we believe that the tradition is now in the hands of a generation of young people who constitute a healthy and vigorous, and therefore conquering, body that does not have to be afraid to coexist with old groups as long as it is not afraid of victory.

Nor are we afraid to collaborate with people of good will—for example, members of the New Right—as long as their discourse is not contrary to Catholic doctrine. Our policy is never to criticise those who share our virtues of courage and strength, and who defend the same heroes. Pope Francis says that we must go to the periphery; well, we choose our periphery.

Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world and this is happening under the absolute indifference of both the media and ostensibly Christian nations. Is it necessary to revive the Christianity of the Crusade?

Yes, it is important to recover the spirit of crusade which, in another form, was also the spirit of the Spanish conquistadors. I often wonder with which historical epoch or hero we can identify. We might think that we are in the time like that of the first Christians, but the message of the Church is not a new message, as it was then. We may think that the barbarians are coming, but the Roman Empire of the 5th century was a much less decadent Christian society. Instead, I think of the conquerors—because many of us are in a hostile environment—especially Hernán Cortes, who knew how to be a lion and a fox at the same time, establishing alliances with one hand and smashing idols with the other. I think of how to be like him: to be bold and, without breaking with tradition, not to fear being insolent. We are rebels out of fidelity.

Houllebecq’s Submission presents a France that, faced with an absolute lack of values, accepts Islamisation. Do you think this scenario could become possible?

I haven’t read the novel as he is not a very attractive author for French conservatives, but there are two interesting strategies regarding Islamisation. On the one hand, there is the banning of certain clothes, which may be a pretext to force them to leave. However, in practise these laws have been used against us because they are being enforced by secularists. The second strategy is to tell Muslims that we have our own identity, as they have theirs, and that we are not meant to live together. We should not join them against the modernists just because they, too, are monotheists and universalists. In my opinion, Islam is a false universalism that hides the flag of Arab ethnicity; it does not respect anything other than strength and virility. That is why our first effort must be to remake strong Catholics—not to create wise monkeys, but burning hearts, because only they can speak to other burning hearts.

Biden Voters More Likely Than Trump Voters to Deny Holocaust – Antisemitism is a diversity problem

Another poll that buries the lede.

Most Americans believe there has been an increase in hate crimes in the U.S., and many think that antisemitism is a serious problem. Few American adults agree with extreme statements such as “the Holocaust is a myth,” but those who do are most likely to be under the age of 30.

It takes a while until the YouGov/Economist poll actually asks respondents if they agree with certain ideas such as, “The Holocaust is a myth”. (The poll lists this as a question about Israel for some reason.)

The vast majority of people don’t agree with it, but those who do are more likely to be liberals than conservatives (3% vs 2%), much more likely to be urban than suburban (5% vs 1%)and more likely to voted Biden (2%) than Trump (%1).

These are fairly small numbers overall, but they do rise significantly among the 18-29 set where they hit 20%.

We’ve seen similar results with support for the Hamas attacks of Oct 7.

So what’s going on here? This is not just a “what happened to the youth” thing.

Let’s drill down a bit. What do Biden voters and younger people have in common?

Among white people, only 5% agree with the idea, but 13% of black people and 12% of Hispanic people do.

Let’s look at the inverse.

82% of white people strongly disagree, but only 55% of black people disagree.

The numbers spike among the 18-29 set because it’s also the most diverse generation. The interesting part would potentially come from drilling down to break down the 18-29 numbers by race and gender. What I think we’ll find is that much of it is coming from the more “diverse” young men.

When asked whether Jews have too much power in America, the numbers jump from 13% among white people to 27% among black people. 57% of white people disagree, but only 27% of black people disagree.

We can’t talk about what’s really going on here and so we don’t.

The town hall of Nay,France, was the target of a Christianophobic, anti-French and anti-Semitic tag expressing joy at the death of Thomas

In the early hours of Monday December 11th, an anti-Semitic and racist tag was discovered on the façade of Nay town hall, displaying, among other things, a swastika.
The mayor, Bruno Bourdaa, condemned the act as “foolish, aggressive, but above all pathetic and miserable”. He announced that he had filed a complaint with the gendarmerie.

The inscription, which was made on Sunday night, was erased during the day on Monday.

German mayor slams Der Spiegel’s call for mainstream parties to cut off AfD for the sake of democracy

Boris Palmer, screen grab youtube

German news outlet Der Spiegel is “losing touch with reality” after its political editor penned an article calling for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to have public funding it is entitled to cut off by other parties in order to “strengthen democracy,” a German mayor has claimed.

Boris Palmer, mayor of Tübingen and a former member of the German Green Party, accused Der Spiegel’s Ann-Katrin Müller of being irresponsible by backing proposals to stifle support for the AfD, which is soaring in popularity among the electorate, particularly in the eastern German states.

“The demand that AfD should be fought through targeted disadvantages, rules of procedure, withdrawal of party funding and, best of all, by a ban is truly dangerous,” Palmer wrote in a lengthy Facebook post.

Der Spiegel believed that by refusing to give the AfD the party funding to which it was entitled, it could prevent its looming election victories in Brandenburg, Thuringia, and Saxony next September. The headline itself read: “Act before it’s too late!” The paper called on the German traffic light coalition to turn off the money tap for the opposition party “soon.”

Palmer, once a member of the Greens, slammed the article and said it was effectively saying: “The people are stupid. If they don’t want to vote properly, we’ll just change the rules until the result suits us,” and warned that such a move would shake the “foundations of the constitution.”

Instead, he called for Germany to “make policies that solve problems and take people seriously.” The 12 percent increase in citizens’ income, including for Ukrainian citizens, would “only cause outrage among many working people,” he warned.

Even today, low earners who work full-time are “left with only €300 to €500 more at the end of the month than what (Ukrainians) receive with their citizen’s allowance, housing benefit and other benefits,” he explained, claiming that work is no longer worthwhile and current policies “simply do not work in the long term.”

Palmer also cited the “disaster in schools,” migration policy, and inclusion legislation as examples of the German establishment not listening to the electorate.

The trains “no longer run when it snows” and if it doesn’t snow, “they don’t run either,” he wrote. He also slammed the Constitutional Court for declaring “the most important budget funding null and void, and the government cannot find an answer.”

“And then you wonder why people turn away in horror?” he asked.

Woke University Drops National Anthem as “Offensive” & “Old Fashioned” — Bristol University

Bristol University has axed singing of God Save The King at its graduation ceremonies on the grounds that some students may find it “old fashioned” or “offensive”. The National Anthem, which has been sung at recent graduation ceremonies, will now only be sung if a member of the Royal Family is present. Our Senior Fellow Rafe Heydel-Mankoo appeared on TalkTV to discuss this story.

NONE of the teens convicted of criminal conspiracy in the murder-decapitation of teacher in France, Samuel Paty in 2020 will see the inside of a jail cell

Samuel Paty (Image Source: France 24)

(I guess so long as they didn’t misgender someone…)

Six teenagers have been convicted for their role in the murder of French teacher Samuel Paty in 2020. Paty was beheaded by a Muslim refugee who took offense to his depiction of the Prophet Mohammed during a lesson on free speech.

Paty, a history and geography teacher, was stabbed to death and beheaded near his school in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine in 2020. His killer, an 18-year-old Chechen who arrived in France with his family as an asylum seeker aged six, was shot dead by police at the scene.

Prior to his murder, Paty had shown students images of the Islamic Prophet Mohammed during a lesson on blasphemy and free speech law.

After a closed-doors trial in a juvenile court, the six teens were sentenced on Friday. Five of the youths, who were aged between 14 and 15 at the time of the murder and helped the killer identify Paty, were found guilty of criminal conspiracy with intent to cause violence.

A female student who was aged 13 at the time was found guilty of making false statements. She had claimed that Paty ordered Muslim students to identify themselves before the lesson, however, it later emerged that she was not present in the classroom, and that Paty had informed Muslim students that they could leave the room if they did not wish to see the offensive images.

None of the six will serve any jail time. The girl was handed an 18-month suspended sentence, while four of the others were given suspended sentences of between 14 and 18 months, and one was sentenced to six months in prison, which he will be able to serve at home wearing an electronic monitor.

‘Qatargate’: European Parliament needs to do more to restore trust, says ombudswoman

screen grab youtube

EU ombudswoman Emily O’Reilly has questioned the willingness of the European Parliament to address ethical weaknesses brought up by the cash-for-influence Qatargate scandal.

Ahead of the European elections, the Parliament must show it is doing everything in its power to protect its integrity and credibility among European Union citizens and the wider world, O’Reilly says.

European institutions have thus far chosen to stick with self-regulation, leading to some calling ongoing reforms a “toothless bulldog”.

O’Reilly said she remained concerned about how tighter EU ethics regulations will be applied and enforced by bodies such as the Parliament and Commission.

How will the proposed EU “ethics committee” deal with information relating to any proven or alleged wrongdoing, she asked?

“The new stronger ethics rules are a good starting point but the rules are only as good as their implementation and enforcement,” O’Reilly said.

“My aim is to encourage the Parliament to continue the process of reform needed to ensure a strong ethical culture and an enforcement regime worthy of citizens’ trust.

“The Qatargate scandal undermined the reputation of the European Parliament in the eyes of many EU citizens. Ahead of the European elections next year, the Parliament must now show that it is doing everything in its power to protect its integrity and credibility,” she said.

In September, O’Reilly said the EU had only introduced “cosmetic changes” in its fight against corruption.

Several Socialist MEPs are accused of taking money from countries including Qatar and Morocco in exchange for favourable votes in Parliament.

O’Reilly said citizens needed to be able to have faith in the self-regulation model’s ability to function effectively.

She praised the approved changes, which include a more thorough definition of “conflict of interest” and a requirement for Member States to disclose any meetings their officials may have with diplomats or registered lobbyists from non-EU nations.

She said however that she had three remaining doubts.

It is unclear how Parliament will oversee and implement the new regulations, which include requiring MEPs to register meetings with lobbyists and providing a post-mandate cooling-off period.

While the committee overseeing MEPs’ adherence to the Code of Conduct has been given a more proactive role, there are still some details left unclear, such as how the committee will receive and respond to “signals” of suspected misconduct by MEPs.

The Ombudsman also criticised what she called a lack of transparency in the reform process itself, specifically concerning decisions that establish guidelines for the Parliament.

In future, such internal decisions should be fully transparent to the public.

“My aim is to encourage the Parliament to continue the process of reform needed to ensure a strong ethical culture and an enforcement regime worthy of citizens’ trust,” said the Ombudsman.

According to O’Reilly, there has until now been a “lack of any shared political appetite for the kind of robust ethics regime that many citizens would have imagined was implicitly and explicitly proposed by Commission President von der Leyen”.

‘Outrage’ as Scotland to Allow Biologically Male Trans Criminals in Female Prisons to ‘Affirm’ Identity

screen grab youtube

The Scottish Prison Service has issued guidance saying that biological males who identify as women, including some with a history of violence against women, should be placed in female-only jails in order to allow them to spend time around people of their “affirmed gender”.

Transgender criminals should be “provided the opportunity and supported to work towards” serving their prison sentence in a jail that “aligns with their affirmed gender,” the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said according to the Scottish Daily Express.

The guidance from the SPS argued that in doing so it would allow trans offenders to “have had the opportunity to live with those who share their affirmed gender” before they are released back into the public.

The prison service said that even biological males with a history of violence, including sexual offences, against women should be given the opportunity to be placed in a female prison if there was “compelling” evidence that they no longer presented “an unacceptable risk of harm”.

Even for those who are deemed to be too dangerous to be housed alongside female inmates, the SPS suggested that they be given the chance to be around female inmates, saying that “there may be other ways of supporting their gender identity, for example through access to work parties, activities, or even programmes with others of their gender identity”.

The new guidance represents a major reversal from the SPS’s decision to determine which prison criminals are sent to based on their biological sex in the wake of the scandal of a biologically male rapist, Isla Bryson, being sent to a woman’s prison after being convicted of raping two women while still identifying as a man in 2016 and 2019. Bryson, born Adam Graham, only claimed to be transgender after the trial began.

Speaking to The Telegraph on Sunday, Kate Coleman, of the campaign group Keep Prisons Single Sex, said: “I am horrified at the suggestion that male prisoners who even the SPS deem to be unsafe for the female estate should nevertheless be able to access activities in women’s prisons for reasons that include being able to practise being a woman.

“This is an outrage. I am disgusted that this policy, as inadequate to ensure the safety of women as it is, appears to be hiding a reality that is far more sinister in the danger that it presents to female offenders.”

The SPS recognised that there are concerns over the safety of female inmates “being housed alongside someone with the strength of a person who was assigned male at birth and who has gone through male puberty”.

The report went on to note that there are also concerns about biological males “initiating coercive relationships, and the risk of pregnancy with non-transgender women”.

However, the SPS said that it would be “stigmatising to suggest that only transgender women are a threat” given that violence does come from some “other women” in the prison system as well.

A spokesman for the SPS said: “Our new policy supports the health, safety, and wellbeing of all people living and working in Scotland’s prisons, by taking an individualised approach to the admission, placement, and management of transgender people.

“We will carefully consider a range of factors, including offending history, with a particular focus on violence against women and girls, when assessing risk.”

French police arrest Sudanese migrant accused of attempting to snatch two children including 2-year-old girl

Authorities in France on Tuesday arrested a 34-year-old Sudanese national suspected of attempting to kidnap two children including a 2-year-old girl in separate incidents.

Corbeil-Essonnes (Essonne) municipal police apprehended a suspect in the city center on Tuesday afternoon after an incident in a nearby store where a man sought to lead a toddler astray.

According to a report by French news outlet Actu17, the little girl was sitting in her stroller at around 10 a.m. with her childminder when an unknown man grabbed her by the hand in an attempt to retrieve her.

“The little girl started screaming and the childminder, who was paying at the checkout, turned around and made the man run away,” a source close to the case said.

The police were alerted and used the store’s video-protection footage to obtain images of the perpetrator. Several photos of the suspect were recovered, and at around 12:30 p.m., municipal police officers spotted the alleged perpetrator on a nearby street. The man was immediately arrested and taken into custody at the Évry police station.

Investigators from the BSU (urban security brigade) then made the connection with a similar case that occurred on Thursday, Nov. 23, in the Corbeil-Essonnes Quick restaurant on Boulevard Georges-Michel.

“The perpetrator matched this 34-year-old man,” confirmed the same source. That day, an 8-year-old child in the playground was approached by an unknown man who took his hand. The child’s mother witnessed the incident and asked a security guard for help. She filed a complaint. Neither child was injured.

Already known to the police, the suspect is believed to be in France illegally, according to local media.

He was to undergo a psychiatric examination to determine whether he was mentally capable of being held in police custody.

Palestinian flags flutter from the fallen cities of Eurabia

by Giulio Meotti

“I think the West is on the verge of collapsing in on itself. I am deeply disgusted by the situation and the behavior of the majority of politicians.”

Thus the famous French cartoonist Enki Bilal, a legend of drawing.

“We let the Trojan horse in. I’ve been telling my friends for thirty years that we’re screwed with Islamism. When the Muslim Brotherhood appeared in Afghanistan, I wrote ‘The Sleep of the Monster’, a very harsh book published in 1998 and which sold 300,000 copies; my remarks were 100 percent inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood but, at that moment, I did not want to name, and therefore target, just one religion. So I chose to talk about the three monotheisms. In twenty years, and probably less, perhaps only ten, we will no longer recognize Europe. We are witnessing the end of a world, of a great world, our West. And the end of the West hides this kind of reverse McCarthyism called Wokism and which produces hatred towards Israel, towards capitalism, towards the white man. It takes incredible blindness, even a form of intellectual hemiplegia, not to see what Islamization is. How could this have escaped the attention of young people and wokists? How can one be Wokist, that is, integrate neofeminism and Islamogoschism? I do not understand ! Have we heard from the neo-feminists about Iranian women? Do the LGBT associations demonstrating for the Palestinians know how homosexuals are treated in Gaza? Lack of culture is winning.”

Meanwhile, Palestinian flags flutter from the cities of Eurabia.

The municipality of Oslo displayed the Palestinian flag.

“At best, we are witnessing a creeping Islamization of Norway, but it is even more correct to define it as an open Islamization” writes Hege Storhaug in Aftonposten, the first Norwegian newspaper that for decades has promoted uncritical immigration .

Mohammad has been the most popular name among those born in Oslo for eleven consecutive years, according to the Department of Statistics. The Pew Research Center believes that with a high migration flow, the 200,000 Muslims in Norway will be 1,100,000 in 2050.

Throughout the country, mosques are springing up like mushrooms: a nightclub in Vadsø transformed into a mosque. The venerable old brick building of Sandejord, the headquarters of the Red Cross, purchased and transformed into a mosque. The late 19th century Landfalløya chapel taken over by the Al-Ghazali centre. Folkets Hus in Hammerfest has become a mosque…

The City Council of Trondheim, Norway’s third-largest city, has passed a motion calling on residents to personally boycott Israeli goods, a city that aspires to be “de-Israelized.” Then it was the turn of another Norwegian city, Tromso, whose city council approved a similar motion. More than 40 percent of Norwegians are already boycotting Israeli products or are in favor of doing so, according to a poll.

Telegraph reports that the mayor of Tromsø, the Norwegian city where tourists go to see the Northern Lights and twinned with Gaza, hosted a Hamas officer mayor of Gaza. When the Nazis arrived, the Norwegians handed over all the Jews of Tromsø to them, where today there are only two Jews left. “Norway risks becoming a country without a Jewish population,” reads an editorial in Aftenposten.

The Oslo Film Festival rejected the documentary “The Other Dreamers”, about the lives of disabled children, simply because it was Israeli. All Norwegian universities refused to host the great lawyer Alan Dershowitz for a lecture tour on the Middle East. The Norwegian Ministry of Finance has excluded Israeli companies, such as Africa Israel Investments and Danya Cebus, from the Pension Global Fund, the fund that invests the richess of the country’s oil and gas in foreign stocks and bonds and holds more than one percent of all global stocks. A newspaper, Dagbladet, glory of the Norwegian left, published a cartoon in which Palestinian terrorists leave a prison with the Nazi symbol of Buchenwald: “Jedem Das Seine”. The newspaper Aftenposten published an article in which Jostein Gaarder, Norway’s most famous writer, imagined the destruction of Israel. Gaarder, whose book Sophia’s World has been translated into 53 languages and sold millions of copies, justified the expulsion of all Jewish people from his land. “We do not recognize the State of Israel,” Gaarder wrote as an Iranian imam.

When you see a Palestinian flag on the flagpole of a city hall or parliament, that is already a society in the process of subjugation.

Meanwhile, the Trondheim synagogue has become one of the most protected buildings in all of Norway. Vidkun Quisling, the collaborator, would be proud of his followers, even if they no longer call themselves National Socialists, but “progressives”.

Glittering outside; this Europe is putrid inside.
