Lampedusa ’emptied of migrants’ just before MEPs visit

A number of European politicians arrived in Lampedusa for a day-trip on September 27 to assess for themselves how the huge influx of migrant arrivals was being handled.

Twenty-six right-wing Identity and Democracy (ID) Group MEPs made the visit to gain first-hand experience of the situation on the Italian island, located just over 100km from the African mainland.

Following the trip, the MEPs called for “a complete overhaul of EU migration policies”. They demanded the “proper implementation of a rigorous asylum policy in accordance with international law, while blocking illegal immigration, ensuring effective border controls and enforcing an adequate repatriation policy”.

They further stated the Lampedusa issue marked “the complete failure of the EU’s migration policy”.

In a press release on September 28, the MEPs said that when they arrived at the “hotspot”, they noted it “had surprisingly been entirely emptied of migrants right before the group’s long-planned visit”.

The MEPs said they met the mayor of Lampedusa Filippo Mannino, Coast Guard officials and representatives from several other organisations.

Among those, they heard from the Red Cross of Italy, responsible for the co-ordination of arrivals on the island, which confirmed that it “mainly receive[d] single male adults”.

Belgian MEP Tom Vanddendriessche said in a video he posted on X that there was “free WiFi and free phone chargers” for the migrants.

The arrivals were subsequently put on “controlled transport towards Italy and then of course they reach Belgium, where they can settle themselves directly and comfortably in our social security system”.

“This migration model by the EU causes trouble for everyone,” he said. “For us and for those people.

“We need a new paradigm on migration. Shelter needs to happen by definition in their own region and our borders need to be protected, rather than what is happening now: NGOs who help them cross the sea and the European Union who welcomes them with taxpayer money.”

Another of the Lampedusa delegation, Italian MEP Marco Campomenosi, said: “Europe cannot continue to look the other way and pretend nothing has happened; promises and announcements must be followed by concrete facts, immediately.

“Sicily and Italy can no longer be left alone and Lampedusa must be on the pages of newspapers as an extraordinary international tourist destination, not as a symbolic place of the emergency,” he added.

The ID Group stated: “The problems at the Lampedusa hotspot highlight the complete failure of the EU’s migration policy and the need to rethink these policies in order to prevent illegal migration, address the root causes of migration, enhance border security and preserve national sovereignty to decide who has a right to enter the state’s territory.”

The MEPs concluded with a series of propositions, inspired by the Australian stance on migration termed the “no way policy”.

That move successfully ended mass migration toward the Antipodes nation and stopped people making perilous trips by sea.

Neil Oliver notes Trudeau’s apology device and the attempt at a dilution effect

In the context of the above video by Neil Oliver, I find it interesting that the propaganda against Russia by Ukraine never mentions the Holomodor. Which would be a very powerful piece of historical motivation for Ukraine not to be part of Russia indeed. But then, examining that might show that Ukraine was part of Russia, that the word Ukraine means Borderlands in Russian, and that it was in fact Ukrainians who carried out the genocide in Ukraine against Ukrainian farmers. So yeah I guess there’s that.

Dutch pensioner stabbed to death by gang while walking his dog, local residents bemoan ‘temporary residents’ causing ‘misery’

A 71-year-old man has died after he and his dog were stabbed during an assault by several people on Wednesday evening in the Dutch city of Rotterdam.

The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on the Molièreweg in Rotterdam-Lombardijen to the city’s south.

According to a police report, a gang assaulted the man on the street. He sustained a fatal stab wound, while his dog was also stabbed multiple times and left for dead.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and tried to resuscitate the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His dog was taken away by an animal ambulance, and its condition is unknown.

Police later announced that a 53-year-old Rotterdam resident had been arrested in connection with the incident, and an investigation into the man’s involvement in the attack is now underway.

Authorities are studying surveillance footage to ascertain the facts surrounding the attack after the majority of the perpetrators successfully fled the scene and remain at large.

Several local residents told the Rotterdam-based Algemeen Dagblad newspaper that the pensioner had lived in a ground-floor apartment in the Molière neighborhood for many years and had often been the subject of abuse from other residents.

Neighbors speaking to the press under the condition of anonymity explained that younger residents are generally not a problem, but so-called “temporary residents” who had recently moved into the area had become a nuisance.

According to the local residents, a cohort of temporary residents had been allocated accommodation near the victim’s home.

“There are no problems here with the young people from the neighborhood, but those temporary residents cause a lot of misery. They are barely supervised, and something happens every week,” one local resident told the newspaper.

“My children don’t look up when the police enter the street. I don’t want my children to grow up here,” another added.

The Netherlands has not been impervious to the asylum crisis affecting Europe, and Rotterdam has received a sizeable number of migrants entering the country in the past two years.

With social services saturated in the region, the Dutch government chartered another cruise ship to accommodate up to 1,500 new arrivals in the city’s port in June.

The working-class city has long been infamous for the sizeable presence of organized crime, particularly in the drug trade, which has been exacerbated in recent times due to an influx of Moroccan immigration.

Germany: Cleaning of Green Extremist Graffiti on Historic Brandenburg Gate to be More Difficult, Expensive Than Feared

Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate will have to be cleaned at greater effort and expense than initially thought after climate activists sprayed orange paint on the German capital’s signature landmark earlier this month, a company that manages official buildings in the city said Thursday.

Members of the Last Generation group used fire extinguishers filled with paint to spray all six columns of the gate on Sept. 17 – the latest in a series of eye-catching actions. It is best known for protests in which activists glue themselves to roads and block traffic, a polarizing tactic.

The group´s priorities include getting Germany to stop using all fossil fuels by 2030 and take short-term measures, including imposing a general speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) on highways, to cut emissions more quickly.

The cost of cleaning the gate was initially put at about 35,000 euros ($36,900). But the management company, Berliner Immobilienmanagement, made clear that it now expects a bigger and much more expensive effort.

The color that was used has seeped deeper into the sandstone monument than originally thought because of its water content, BIM said in a statement. It added that various cleaning techniques have been tested, and a combination of those methods will probably have to be used – as well as the potential use of laser technology.

That means the cleaning work will probably take “several weeks” and the costs will increase, BIM added. It said that it’s not currently possible to give a precise figure, but it expects “costs in the six-digit region” because scaffolding will have to put up around parts of the gate.

The company said that, independently of criminal proceedings, it will press claims for damages under civil law.

MEHMANA: Nagorno-Karabakh’s Greek village is now under Azerbaijani control

The sole Greek village of Nagorno-Karabakh, Mehmana (Μεχμανά), located in Matakert province, is under Azerbaijani control, and the two dozen or so residents are either now in Armenia or Stepanakert, the capital city of the region.

Greek City Times can confirm that the President of the Greeks of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), Sofie Ivanidou, is still in Stepanakert, and the situation of all Greeks will be clearer once she is evacuated to Armenia.

Mehmana was settled in the 1830’s by the Pontic Greeks of Argyroupoli (Αργυρούπολης, Turkish: Gümüşhane Turkis) in Pontos, attracted by the news of gold mines in the region. The gold was mined and processed in Mehmana for more than a century.

Although it was the most remote of all the Pontian Greek colonies in the Caucasus, it was a financially strong one.

Retired Army Major, author and journalist Savvas Kalenteridis said: “The village was purely Greek until the Azeris attacked in 1992. Then they burned the houses, which in fact remains ruined to this day.”

“Few of what was built are habitable. After the attack, many relocated to Greece and especially to its northern areas such as Florina,” he added.

Among the surnames Savvas Kalenteridis met on his visit to the village were Lavasidis, Akritidis, Ioannidis, Stylianidis, Putahidis and Papadopoulos.

Germany: Afghan beats his daughter-in-law’s head 17 times with a hammer

Klebeband,  Public Domain

Because she became pregnant after an arranged marriage and did not want to have an abortion, she was supposed to die. These are terrible scenes involving a family from Munich, which the public prosecutor’s office formulates in its indictment!

Family tyrant Mohammed Y. (57) has been in the dock at the Munich I Regional Court since Tuesday, charged with attempted murder and attempted abortion.
The cook allegedly tried to smash his pregnant daughter-in-law’s head with a hammer last year. But Ayla Y. (27, name altered) survived after an emergency operation, but she lost her unborn child.
In 2011, Ayla Y., who was only 15 years old at the time, was married to Mohammed Y.’s son. After the arranged marriage, she arrived in Munich from Afghanistan in 2015 and lived with her husband’s family. But there were tensions.

“The accused was highly dissatisfied with his daughter-in-law, complaining about her cooking skills and because she used too much electricity and water when washing and doing the dishes,” the prosecution said.

In 2020, Ayla Y. gave birth to her first child. The grandson also bothered the tyrannical head of the family. “He was bothered when his grandson screamed,” the prosecution said. He accused his daughter-in-law of not calming the child sufficiently.

In 2022, the young woman became pregnant again. But instead of being happy about the second grandchild, Mohammed Y. wanted to force her to have an abortion. According to the indictment, Mohammed Y. decided “that she should not have another child”.

Ayla Y. refused, so the head of the family went berserk. “I wanted to keep the child. He grabbed me by the hair, threw me to the ground, then he hit me with a hammer,” the woman said in court, crying.
In order not to have to face her father-in-law, she was questioned via video link.

According to the indictment, her father-in-law beat her head 17 times with a locksmith’s hammer, and another 15 times on her neck and upper body. As he did so, he allegedly said, “You’ve lost.” Then he dropped the hammer and called the police himself.

Ayla was taken to hospital in critical condition with an open craniocerebral trauma. In addition, her jaw was broken and she had 17 open wounds on her face. She was in hospital for five months and subsequently had an abortion.
In court, Mohammed Y. claimed that his daughter-in-law had attacked him with a hammer. He had taken the tool from her, “what happened afterwards, I can’t remember”.

The cook now faces up to 15 years in prison, a verdict is due at the end of October. His daughter-in-law is still scarred and severely traumatised. She said in court: “Ever since I was in Munich, I lived in fear.

Germany: Syrian migrant who robbed pensioner and smashed 245 car windows with hammer in violent spree avoids jail

A Syrian national who embarked on a spree of violence across the German port city of Hamburg resulting in the smashing of hundreds of car windows and windshields, as well as the violent robbery of a pensioner at an ATM, has avoided prison.

The 31-year-old man known as Firas A. had been a thorn in the side of the authorities throughout the summer months, which began with the migrant being detained twice in April for driving without a license.

After having his car keys confiscated by the police, he reportedly went on the warpath with acts of vengeful destruction, vandalizing vehicles across the city.

It is reported by the German newspaper Bild that the suspect is responsible for the smashing of 245 car windows and windshields throughout June.

The notorious vandal was witnessed in the act a total of 12 times during this period, each time equipped with a hammer and a brass knuckle knife.

Each time he was placed into custody for the alleged offenses, he was subsequently released after a Hamburg judge ruled that there was no reason to incarcerate the man.

The repeat offender continued his illicit activity, which culminated last month in the robbery of a pensioner at an ATM. On Aug. 23, the man was caught on surveillance footage accosting an 84-year-old woman withdrawing cash at the Osdorfer Born shopping center.

After approaching the woman from behind, the suspect grabbed the cash from her hands and in the struggle injured the pensioner, who fell to the ground. She was later treated for bruises on her hands and a cut.

Firas A. was identified by security cameras at the shopping center and authorities applied for an arrest warrant, which was reportedly refused by a Hamburg judge “due to a lack of grounds for arrest.”

Despite accepting there was enough evidence that Firas A. had been the perpetrator, the court ruled that his actions were insufficient to warrant pre-trial detention and would unlikely lead to a prison sentence following conviction.

It was held that the man’s risk of absconding was low, and there was therefore no need to place the man in custody.

Despite knowing the address and identity of the suspect, the police are therefore helpless to prevent the man from reoffending.

Senior public prosecutor Liddy Oechtering told the Bild newspaper that the investigations into both the damage to property and the accusation of robbery are ongoing, but the suspect will not be taken off the streets while police conduct their inquiries.

“Arrest warrants were not applied for because there were no grounds for arrest. In particular, there is a lack of evidence that there is a risk of absconding,” she explained.

Thomas Jungfer, Hamburg regional chairman of the German Police Union said: “While the police have done their job here, there still seems to be room for the judiciary, and they are more likely to exercise mercy than dispense justice. That leaves you speechless.”

Italy: Migrant boats to return en-masse to Lampedusa after high winds prevented crossings

More migrant boats are expected to begin landing again on the Italian island of Lampedusa from tomorrow, after strong winds in the Mediterranean prevented any crossings for more than a week.

A well-placed source told GB News that authorities are preparing for “a return of the boats from Friday.”

The last boat, carrying 75 people, arrived on Lampedusa from Tunisia on Thursday, just before winds picked up in the area.

This morning a group of human rights lawyers and other officials visited the island, to gauge the impact of the crisis on the community there, and check on the preparedness for a fresh wave of migrants.

After visiting the local Red Cross migrant camp, they were taken on a tour of an area of the main port, where dozens of empty migrant boats still lie tied up.

Many are full of tyre inner tubes, used by the migrants as makeshift lifejackets.

The boats there come in all shapes and sizes, a makeshift armada which has one common factor, all of the vessels are completely unseaworthy.

At the height of the last recent migrant surge, more than 11,000 people arrived in hundreds of boats in the space of just five days.

Most of the boats make the journey from Tunisia, the closest country to Italy’s most southerly island.

However, some of the boats that set off from Western Libya can also end up on Lampedusa, depending on the wind and currents.

A local NGO that monitors migrant boat activity in the region, said that two boats which had set off from Libya 48 hours ago, had still not been heard from.

One of the boats, which had 145 people on board, is reported to have been suffering engine difficulties.

Another boat was carrying 90 people and has been reported missing by relatives of some of those on board.

All week, authorities on Lampedusa have been preparing for a new wave of migrant arrivals.

Police reinforcements from all over Italy have been arriving on the island.

The Italian Red Cross camp, known locally as the hotspot, has been cleared of the 11,000 recent arrivals.

The last batch of 101, mainly sub-Saharan African males left the island on Wednesday evening, on a ferry headed to the Italian mainland.

GB News has been told that Tunisian people smugglers, who have been waiting for the winds to ease, have now begun preparing boats to launch into the Mediterranean.

“Wallah, by the Qur’an”: Two 16-year-olds charged after video of rape in Tourcoing, France; videos circulated, viewed tens of millions of times on social media

The alleged perpetrator was tracked down by internet users and videotaped being beaten. These videos have attracted tens of millions of views on social media since the weekend.

The horror, on our screens. Images of the beginnings of a possible sexual assault on a minor and acts of revenge against the perpetrator have been circulating on social media since the weekend. The videos, posted on Snapchat and then widely shared on X (formerly Twitter), had tens of millions of views by Tuesday morning. The Lille prosecutor’s office told Le Parisien newspaper that an investigation has been launched to fully clarify the case.

The crime allegedly took place in Tourcoing (northern France). A first video was published on X on Saturday afternoon. It shows a youth holding a young girl by the arm and pushing her against a wall located in a deserted place. The two people on the video (the alleged perpetrator and the victim) have not yet been clearly identified, but appear to be minors. In the images, the girl can be heard asking her attacker to leave her alone. She pleads: “Let me go, please, I don’t want anything”. Thereupon the teenager replies: “You’re going to suck my dick”.

(…) On Sunday, the second episode in this sordid case followed. After the alleged attacker was identified by several internet users, he was videoed being beaten by another man. “Why are you doing this? Do you want to carry on or not?” he asked him, delivering slap after slap, while the teenager, lying on the ground and in tears, admitted “not being thinking”. On X, several users claim that the man beating up the alleged attacker is his older brother. While we cannot yet confirm this information, one element in the video supports this version. When asked “Who is responsible for you?” the teenager answers “you” to the person who is beating him up. (…) (…) Le Parisien
