For a nation in bad straits owing to war, Ukraine is acting awfully high and mighty, boldly attacking Moscow’s ritziest financial district with drones, and not doing a whole lot to hide it:
According to Axios:
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a warning to Russia’s invading forces Sunday after the Kremlin accused Kyiv of overnight drone attacks on Moscow.
What they’re saying: “Today is the 522nd day of the so-called ‘special military operation,’ which the Russian leadership expected to last for a week or two,” Zelensky said in a televised address, according to a transcript.
- “Ukraine is getting stronger,” he added. “Gradually, the war is returning to the territory of Russia — to its symbolic centers and military bases, and this is an inevitable, natural and absolutely fair process.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Air Force said the drones were intended to impact Russians who felt Putin’s invasion was distant, per the Kyiv Times.
- “There’s always something flying in Russia, as well as in Moscow,” Yurii Ihnat added. “Now the war is affecting those who were not concerned.”
Axios notes that they have not officially claimed “credit” for the strikes, but what is one to make of these statements? Axios notes that they vowed to employ more drone strikes in the wake of their takeout of the Russian bridge to Crimea.
So did they do it, but they don’t want to claim responsibility for it officially? Is that to perhaps to prevent Russia from launching some kind of lawsuit in the Hague against Ukraine, or else get their buddies in the United Nations to condemn it? Or most disturbingly, are they not claiming credit because they want to get the Russians to think that we did it, so that the retaliation flows to the U.S. instead of Ukraine?
There are many possibilities, and one shouldn’t disregard the Prigozhin possibility either. Prigozhin was blamed by many for the drone attacks in Moscow last May.
I don’t have an answer. But this drone strike had a hard psychological impact on the Russians. It was in the heart of the fanciest financial district, known as Moscow City, it was just 2.8 miles from the Kremlin, and it was filmed at close quarters. Moscow said it did minor damage to buildings but that seems belied by the photos, which show burned out husks of offices.
Even if we know nothing about who launched this attack and Russia concludes it was Ukraine’s doing, it seems like a mighty good recipe for inviting retaliation against Ukraine’s money sponsor, the U.S., given that Russia knows that the U.S. is pretty much financing the Ukrainian war effort (without an auditor, as I noted here) and therefore has a lot of money to throw around on expansions like these. The numerous neocon consultants from the U.S. on the ground there might even be encouraging it.
What does Russia do in a situation like that? Sure, they may retaliate against Ukraine, and they probably will. But they may also retaliate against the U.S., getting to the root of the matter, owing to the U.S.’s moneybags role. We know they know it, one only need read the statements of foreign minister Sergey Lavrov (here’s one) to know they know it.
Do they hit one of our cities directly with a drone in retaliation? Do they do it with admitting it, or without admitting it? Do they take out a power grid or burn a food producing factory or farm? We don’t know. We do know they use food as a weapon, as their recent maneuvers against Ukraine’s grain shipments shows. But we don’t know what they will do, except take their own sweet time to do it.
If they see us as this involved, they will make us pay, which isn’t exactly what Americans thought they were bargaining for when they supported sending defense aid to Ukraine.
The frustrating thing here is that Ukraine would not be in a position to expand its war to Moscow were it not for all the billions flowing in from the U.S. They might not be in a position to demand total victory in this war, neocon style, instead of negotiate something out with Russia that both sides can live with. They blatantly dismissed Russia’s pre-invasion call to not join NATO, which would have prevented a lot of problems if they had opted for neutrality, which many nations successfully practice, yelling that it was a threat to their entire sovereignty. Yet they had a very big, very hungry bear at their door and ought to have recognized reality.
Now the U.S. money seems to be increasing their appetite for fighting it out to total victory even more, and with the losses they’ve taken, that raises the risk that we will drawn into this war, and even be called in to fight it, given Ukraine’s depleted warfighting force.
That’s unintended consequences. It’s sad stuff that the U.S. can’t rein in its client state even as it supports it militarily. Now the odds are rising that we may just be drawn in much further into this war. That’s not exactly what we bargained for as Joe Biden vowed to send aid to Ukraine, for “as long as it takes.”

Two Egyptian men have been held in relation to the murder of 19-year-old Mahmoud Sayed Mohamed Abdalla, whose mutilated body was found in the sea near to the northeastern port of Santa Margherita Ligure last week. The suspects, Abdelwahab Ahmed Gamal Kamel and Mohamed Ali Abdelghani, accused each other of the crime during questioning, sources said on Monday.
Abdalla, who was also Egyptian, was allegedly stabbed to death after a row with his barber-shop employer sparked by him wanting to change jobs, the sources said. The two suspects allegedly put the victim’s body in a suitcase after the murder, took it from Genoa to Chiavari, by taxi and dismembered the body on a beach, cutting off first the head and then the hands.
They allegedly went on to dump the remains in the sea.

Germans are facing an increasing range of economic problems, including recession, inflation, falling real wages, and even the beginnings of deindustrialization, but Green Party MP Green Party Johannes Wagner is claiming that Germans have a “moral duty” to give up their wealth.
Wagner took to Twitter to express his outrage that Germans do not want to give away their wealth.
“It’s such a shame that so many people don’t see (or don’t want to?) what incredible prosperity we have in Germany. We are one of the richest countries on Earth. We can still give so much. And also have a moral obligation to do so,” he wrote.
The MP earns more than €10,000 a month in income per month, as well as additional benefits such as paid travel and other expenses, placing him among the highest earners in Germany. He will also receive a generous pension due to his high salary as a state employee.
In another tweet, Wagner called for “more redistribution of the wealth of the super-rich.” However, he did not mention how this money would be redistributed.
Wagner was hit by a range of negative comments on social media. Besides increasing poverty and economic headwinds facing Germany, users pointed out that the median net wealth of young Germans is far below that of other EU countries, while the federal government has soaring debt totaling 2.5 trillion.
As Remix News reported last year, the proportion of poor people in Germany reached a new high, according to the Federal Statistical Office, with the data highlighting a sea change in the German economy. The report also only covered data up until the end of 2021 before the dramatic increase in food and energy prices in 2022.
“The findings are shocking, the economic effects of the pandemic are having a full impact,” said Ulrich Schneider, the director of the German Welfare Parity Association, at the time. His association plays a large role in helping deliver and coordinate social welfare services in the country, with 10,000 organization members and association branches in all 15 German states.
“Never before has a higher value been measured based on the official micro census, and never before has poverty spread so rapidly as during the pandemic,” said Schneider, who added that there are “more poor people than we’ve ever had.”
As Remix News also reported this year, at the same time that Germany vows to continue spending heavily on its liberal migration policy — more than €36 billion in 2023 alone — an increasing number of the country’s senior citizens are reported to be at a growing risk of poverty.
Federal government data published under a request from Alternative for Germany (AfD) lawmakers revealed that 28.1 percent of the German elderly are at risk of poverty, a figure that is higher than the EU average of 27.4 percent and far greater than its Western European neighbors of France (19.1 percent), Belgium (17.4 percent), and Luxembourg (9.3 percent).
The incidents of love jihad and aligned religious conversion continue to emerge from the state of Maharashtra highlighting the urgent need of stringent law against forced conversion in the state. In a recent dreadful case reported from the Rahuri region of Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, a minor girl has registered an FIR against 8 individuals for love trapping her and then forcing to convert her religion to Islam.
The accused persons have been identified as Avej Nisar Sheikh, Kaif Sheikh, Sohail Sheikh, Heena Sheikh, Alisha Sheikh, Salim Pathan, Altaf Sheikh and Shakir Sayyed. The Police has also arrested four of these identified accused including two women and have booked the others under section 354, 354D, 109, 34 of the Indian Penal Code and under sections 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act.
As per the complaint copy obtained by OpIndia, the incident is said to have happened in the Umbre village of the Rahuri, Ahmednagar. The victim girl in the complaint copy said that she along with her friends who study in standard 10th had joined tuition classes at accused Heena Sheikh’s home. The girls had joined the tuition classes in the year 2021 and continued to attend the classes until the true face of the accused teacher Heena Sheikh got exposed.
The accused teacher allowed other boys from her community to enter the tuition and also allowed them to gather around the classes in presence of the Hindu girls. She used to ask the girls to be friends with them and speak in Hindi only. The victim girl in the complaint said that the boys (other accused booked) had nothing to do with the tuitions but were allowed to sit with them given the permission of accused Heena Sheikh.
The teacher also asked the girls to behave like Muslim girls and wear burqa. She also wanted the girls to stop wearing bangles and apply kumkum on their foreheads. She allowed other accused boys named Avej, Kaif, Sohail and others to sit in the tuitions with the Hindu girls.
“One day while I was going home, one of the accused Avej stopped me and told me that he liked me. Initially he showed so much respect towards women so I decided to be friends with him. Later he began establishing casual contacts with my brother and then began coming home. In the due period he also told me that he loved me and that he could not stay without me,” the victim girl said in the complaint.
The accused then began messaging the girl on her phone and also showed her fake concern regarding her safety. The girl also said in the complaint that Avej had forced her to send some of her photographs to him. She says that later he used the images to blackmail her for his benefits.
“I also had started believing him. One day he told me to quit Hindu religion and run away with him. He said that many people from his community in the village knew about our relation and that they were all ready to help us with money, home and other resources. All he wanted is just me to say yes. But I didn’t. The next thing I knew is he cut his hand and pressured me to talk to him and convert my religion to Islam,” the girl was quoted as saying.
As per the FIR, accused Avej asked his sister Alisha to interfere and convince the victim girl. Accordingly, Alisha met the victim girl and told her that Avej was madly in love with her and that he wanted to talk to her. Alisha then helped Avej to be in touch with the victim girl. Avej also used to message her on Instagram and blackmail that he would viral her photographs if she refused to talk to him.
“One day during the tuition hours, I heard Kaif and Sohail talking to Avej. The duo were provoking Avej to abduct me. They said that they would manage home and some money for us and that abducting me was the only good option. I felt something serious wrong was happening here and so I stopped talking to Avej,” the girl said.
He continued though to message me on Instagram but I stopped responding. “This happened somewhere in 2021. I was too scared to tell this all incident at home. After that my father took away my phone and asked me to concentrate on exams,” the victim added.
The girl registered complaint on July 26 after another girl from her tuition filed a police complaint against Avej. The victim then told her parents about Avej and his behaviour with her for past two years. The complaint was then registered also against Kaif, Sohail, Heena, Alisha, Salim Pathan, Altaf Sheikh and Shakir Sayyed.
The victim girl also mentioned in the complaint that she was forced to wear burqa by Alisha and Avej and told to behave like Muslim girls by her tuition teacher Heena.
As per the sources, the around 3-4 girls from the same tuition have come forward and accused Avej of trapping them in love affair separately and then forcing them to respond to his ‘proposal’ leading to forced conversion.
OpIndia has obtained three different FIR copies in which it the three victim girls have mentioned that Avej first trapped them in love affair and then made plans with his friends to abduct them.
Also, it has come to fore that accused tuition teacher Heena helped the boys in attaining the photographs of the Hindu girls from the tuition. “She used to offer us Shirkhurma on Eid and say that it is mandatory in their religion to click selfie after having Shirkhurma. And then our images were morphed and misused to blackmail us to be in relation with the Muslim boys,” one of the victims in her complaint filed on July 29 said.
OpIndia talked to one of the girls who confirmed the incident. She said that around 7-8 girls have been targeted till date but only three of us have registered official complaints. She said that she and also other girls had to go through a lot due to the tuition teacher and the accused boys.
Sources said to OpIndia that initially no complaints were registered in the case. The administration acted swiftly only after BJP MLA Prasad Lad raised the issue in the State Council and demanded action in the case.
BJP MLA Prasad Lad condemned the incident and said that the local administration also brutally assaulted some of the local people and members of local Hindu organization who tried to reach to the truth of the case. He said that the CCTV footage of the event is also available.

Reportedly, a counter FIR has been filed by one of the accused Salim Pathan who said that the members of the Hindu organization attacked his place of work and barged into a nearby Masjid further creating ruckus in the premises. Pathan also claimed that the Hindu members broke damaged the Masjid using rods and sticks. Based on the complaint, the Police has booked around 25 Hindus under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Bombay Police Act.
Sources revealed to OpIndia that the Hindu members have been booked under ‘false’ allegations and that the locals had gone just to seek answers that why were Hindu girls trapped and taken to Masjid.
Members of the Hindu organization also stated that the police has booked around 25 Hindus but that many people were not present when the incident happened. “This is all a part of plan. 25 active Hindu activits have been deliberatly targeted and these people have nothing to do with the case in first place. Also some of the Hindu members were brutally beaten by the local police while they had gathered to meet the victim girls and help them. The CCTV footage of the incident is available. Also MLA Lad has raised this issue in the Council and sought attention,” sources said.
At present, four of the accused including Heena Sheikh and Avej have been arrested by the Police based on the complaint filed by the minor Hindu girls. Also, 14 out of 25 Hindu members have been taken into custody based on the counter complaint filed by accused Salim Pathan in the case. Further investigations in the case are underway.
