“By Allah”: New Year’s Eve rioters allegedly planned to kidnap a German policeman

After the New Year’s Eve riots, heated debates are still being held about integration and problem districts. This is also the case in Bonn. Around 40 young men allegedly attacked police officers and firefighters in the Medinghoven district on New Year’s Eve – with firecrackers, pyrotechnics and Molotov cocktails.

The residential district, which was tranquil in th Rebublic of Bonn, is now considered a problem district – like Berlin-Neukölln, for example. Almost every fifth person here is unemployed. Around 55 per cent live on social welfare, and almost 38 per cent are under 25 years old.

The rioters who attacked the rescue services with firecrackers and stones on New Year’s Eve are said to have been recruited from precisely this social environment. The Bonn public prosecutor’s office is currently investigating eight men aged 16 to 19 for aggravated breach of the peace, assault on police officers, attempted assault, arson and damage to property.

According to this, a boy calling himself “Le Monde vous Appartient” (“The World Belongs to You”) founded a chat group called “New Year’s Eve MV vs. Nazis” two days before New Year’s Eve. In fact, videos showing the riots on New Year’s Eve can be found on Instagram and TikTok under the hashtag “MV”. MV” stands for “Medinghover Viertel”. The opposing “Nazis” probably meant police officers.

“Le Monde vous Appartient” invites another eight young men to join the group. These also come from Medinghoven or neighbouring districts like Duisdorf. The intention seems clear: “New Year’s Eve will burn MV,” he writes. He quickly makes it clear that if someone wants to be “only half in”, they should leave the group.

The group did not only discuss the construction of Molotov cocktails. One member allegedly asked “how many cop cars” should be set on fire. Another also had the idea of kidnapping a police officer: “Guys. Should we kidnap a cop?” Someone replies, “By Allah I mean seriously. Like Athena” – the film.

The group had also already targeted one particular policeman: the “son of a bitch”. The youths knew where he always parks his car. The Bonn police suspect that this is an officer who is often on duty in Medinghoven. However, the further plan was no longer arranged in the chat. The last conversation ended one day before New Year’s Eve.

Finally, on New Year’s Eve, the riots announced in the chat actually took place. The Bonn police later reported that unknown persons had deliberately fired pyrotechnics at the officers. Some of the suspects had covered themselves with masks and scarves. Beforehand, bins and car tyres had been set on fire. When the fire brigade tried to put out the fires, they were attacked with stones and firecrackers. So were the police officers who tried to protect the firefighters. Medinghoven was indeed on fire.

When the rioting escalated, police and fire brigade initially withdrew. After a platoon of the 13th hundred riot police was alerted, the suspects were surrounded. One member of the chat group was caught at the scene; all the others managed to escape.

Already a few days after the attacks on the police, the flats of the suspects in Medinghoven and Duisdorf were searched. The mobile phones were seized. In addition to firecrackers, an alarm pistol and a gas cartridge were found. The decisive clue to the group, however, was given by a 19-year-old Romanian who had been arrested on New Year’s morning. According to the magazine “Focus”, the investigators found information about the chat group on his mobile phone.

According to the Bonn police, the suspects all have a migration background. According to the Bonn police, there were “five German nationals with a migration background and one other nationality each in the chat group. Three others are foreigners. All eight were born in Bonn.” Which supports Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser’s statement that the state has a “problem with certain young men with a migration background” who “despise” this very state.

All of the eight suspects were already known to the police. One of them had a record of numerous insults and a drug offence. Others had criminal records for theft, misuse of emergency calls and threats.

While country struggles for food, Pakistan focuses on strengthening ‘blasphemy’ laws that are used to target minorities

Human rights groups are concerned that Pakistan’s recently strengthened blasphemy laws would result in increased persecution of religious minorities like Christians and Hindus in the Muslim majority nation. (Source: BBC News)

Religion and the outward manifestation of religiosity in public life have grown exponentially as Pakistani culture has become more archaic and conservative over the past few decades. Now, the country’s parliament has made tightening its draconian anti-blasphemy statute a priority, amid the ongoing economic crisis as Pakistan witnesses large-scale flour riots to massive power cuts.

The country, which is ironically a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, has an atrocious history of human rights violations and persecution of its minorities. The blasphemy laws have served as a useful tool for Pakistan when it comes to targeting minorities, and now those rules are getting even stricter.

Minorities have been regularly targeted in Pakistan. So much so, that a minority lawmaker even cried in the Pakistani parliament over the state of the country’s minorities.

Pakistan’s stringent blasphemy laws, which are frequently used to settle personal scores or persecute minorities, were further strengthened this past week by the Parliament. This has raised concerns among human rights activists about the possibility of an increase in such persecution, particularly of religious minorities, including Hindus and Christians.

The laws, which currently carry the death penalty for anyone found guilty of insulting Islam or the Prophet Muhammad, can now also be used to punish those found guilty of insulting those associated with him.

The Criminal Laws (Amendment) Act 2023, which was unanimously approved by the Pakistan National Assembly last week, increased the minimum sentence for individuals who disrespect the holy figures of Islam.

What modifications were made to the blasphemy law?

Anyone found guilty of disparaging the Prophet Muhammad’s wives, companions, or close relatives will now be subject to a fine of 1 million rupees ($4,500), 10 years in prison, and the term may be increased to life in prison. Additionally, it turns the accusation of blasphemy into a non-bailable crime.

According to the bill’s sponsor and lawmaker from a religious political party, Abdul Akbar Chitrali, “the punishment for offending these hallowed persons was nearly nothing prior to the new laws.”

Zahid Akram Durrani, the deputy speaker, praised the parliamentarians for carrying out what was widely regarded as their religious obligation and dubbed the legislation “historic.”

What concerns do advocates for human rights have?

Human rights activists said they were very disturbed by the most recent development. While the stated goal of this bill is to curb sectarianism, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Chairperson (HRCP) Hina Jilani stated, “HRCP believes it is likely to exacerbate the persecution of Pakistan’s beleaguered religious minorities and sects,” expressing grave concern over the toughening of already harsh blasphemy laws.

The HRCP claimed that making blasphemy a non-bailable offense directly contravenes Article 9’s guarantee of the right to personal liberty.

These amendments are likely to be weaponized disproportionately against religious minorities and sects, leading to bogus FIRs, harassment, and persecution, given Pakistan’s problematic history of the abuse of such laws.

According to Saroop Ijaz, senior counsel for Human Rights Watch in Asia said that, “the new legislation is very worrying.” He added that the current blasphemy laws in Pakistan have fostered and supported legal discrimination and persecution in the name of religion for many years.

Before legal proceedings can be completed, those accused of blasphemy against Islam run the possibility of becoming the target of mob justice, being fatally tortured, or being shot by enraged mobs. Many times, personal animosities or land disputes have given rise to frivolous blasphemy charges.

Updated: The AP Stylebook says the word ‘the’ is ‘dehumanizing’ — and tries to slink away from its tweet

By Eric Utter

That virtue-signaling paragon of writing excellence, the AP Stylebook, recently tweeted: “We recommend avoiding general and often dehumanizing ‘the’ labelssuch as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, the disabled, the college-educated. Instead, use wording such as people with mental illnesses. And use these descriptions only when clearly relevant.” (But never write or say, “the people with mental illnesses,” as that would be offensive!)

You know you’ve gone too far down a road that ought not have been traveled when the word “the” is verboten. The AP Stylebook is now to language as Michael Moore is to NASCAR racing.

The AP Stylebook’s advice is mindful of a comment Winston Churchill supposedly made when a young Foreign Office secretary– who had the job of “vetting” the then Prime Minister’s peerless speeches– decried the P.M.’s habit of ending sentences with prepositions. Churchill, tiring of the functionary’s didactic assaults on his magnificent writing and oratory, allegedly sent a “correction” back to the Foreign Office with a notation in red ink stating: “This is the kind of pedantic nonsense up with which I shall not put!” (The job of “vetting” Churchill’s writings/speeches would be akin to one requiring the“vetting” of Beethoven’s composing.)

As for the French, their embassy response made the AP look like idiots:

After that, they got ratioed on Twitter by thousands of users, making fun of their wokester ethic and delicate political sensibilities. They put their tails between their legs and put this tweet out to clarify:

Notice that it isn’t a full surrender in their war on the word ‘the.’ They remain wedded to that political correctness instinct.

The woke abuse of the English language has gone too far. The word “the” is “dehumanizing?”

What the hell? How dumb are the folks at the AP Stylebook? This is the last straw!

And the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of.

Update: The AP has apologized for its idiocy:

The Twitter account for the Associated Press apologized for a recent tweet suggesting that “the French” was a “dehumanizing” term, acknowledging that it “caused unintended offense.”

The AP official account tweeted Friday morning, “The use of ‘the French’ in this tweet by @AP was inappropriate and has caused unintended offense.  An updated tweet is upcoming.” (snip)

The intense mockery prompted the news agency to delete its tweet in addition to providing the apology. It then subsequently posted a revised version of its controversial post that omitted any reference to French people.

Report: British Army Tracked, Monitored Lockdown Critics

screen grab youtube

UK coronavirus lockdown critics and sceptics were placed under government surveillance using the resources of the country’s military, a report Sunday alleges.

The Mail on Sunday reports military operatives in the UK’s “information warfare” 77 brigade drove the operation that targeted politicians and high-profile journalists who raised public doubts about the official pandemic response through their social media activities.

The report claims those being watched included public figures such as ex-Conservative Minister and army veteran David Davis, who questioned the modelling behind alarming death toll predictions, as well as journalists such as Peter Hitchens and Toby Young.

They were just three of the public figures who numbered amongst the tens of thousands who protested against the UK government’s lockdown policies.

Their dissenting views as openly expressed online through social media were then reported back to the government and No 10. The Mail further alleges:

Documents obtained by the civil liberties group Big Brother Watch, and shared exclusively with this newspaper, exposed the work of Government cells such as the Counter Disinformation Unit, based in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and the Rapid Response Unit in the Cabinet Office.

But the most secretive is the MoD’s 77th Brigade, which deploys ‘non-lethal engagement and legitimate non-military levers as a means to adapt behaviours of adversaries’. According to a whistleblower who worked for the brigade during the lockdowns, the unit strayed far beyond its remit of targeting foreign powers.

They said that British citizens’ social media accounts were scrutinised – a sinister activity that the Ministry of Defence, in public, repeatedly denied doing.

The British Army whistleblower told the newspaper: “It is quite obvious that our activities resulted in the monitoring of the UK population… monitoring the social media posts of ordinary, scared people. These posts did not contain information that was untrue or co-ordinated – it was simply fear.”

Former Cabinet Minister Davis, a member of the Privy Council, told the outlet: “It’s outrageous that people questioning the Government’s policies were subject to covert surveillance” – and questioned the waste of public money.

Veteran journalist Hitchens questioned if he was “shadow-banned” on social media over his criticisms, with his views effectively censored by being pushed down in online search results.

He says the “most astonishing thing about the great Covid panic was how many attacks the state managed to make on basic freedoms without anyone much even caring, let alone protesting. ”

A Downing Street source responded by saying the units from 77 Brigade – which uses both regular and reserve troops – had scaled back their work significantly since the end of the lockdowns.

Pakistan: Houses of minority Hindus, Christians, and Shias demolished in Rawalpindi cantonment area

Authorities in Pakistan’s Rawalpindi have demolished houses of a minority community, a Hindu and a Christian family, who were living in the area for the past 70 years.

As per the sources, at least five houses were demolished in the Cantonment area of Rawalpindi on January 27 that belonged to a Hindu family, a Christian family, and the Shias. Their belongings were thrown on the streets in the neighbourhood.

The Hindu family was forced to take shelter in a nearby temple, whereas the Christian family and Shias were forced to live without any shelter. Sources reveal that the victims’ families tried to take a stay order from the court, but authorities used force to demolish their houses.

A Hindu victim said, “They are mafias and came in a group of at least 100 people. They even harassed us, attacked us as we tried to counter them. They are so powerful that no FIR was registered at the police station”.

He added, “We tried to oppose them in a court, but the Cantonment Board has only one judge, Naveed Akthar, who takes their favour. We were having all the papers as we have been living here for over 70 years. They have not given us any notice and no time to save our household goods. We have no option but to take the family to a temple”.

Minorities in Pakistan have been facing persecution for the past several decades. The authorities, police and even judiciary remain mute spectators on the harassment of minorities in the country.

Speaking to ANI, Dr Amjad Ayub Mirza, an expert on Pakistan’s Affairs said, “Persecution of Hindus and minorities in Pakistan is not something that is new to us. Since the inception of this illegal and fake country that was created in the name of religion by dividing the living body of Hindustan, we have seen persecution of Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Shins now, and has been at the forefront of Pakistan’s atrocities against its own people.”

There are innumerable incidents of persecution of minorities in Pakistan, especially for abduction and forced conversion of young girls.

India: Muslim took a minor Hindu girl hostage, assaulted and set her on fire for not accepting Islam

Yet another horrific case of an Islamist man forcibly trying to convert a Hindu girl has come to light from UP. Mohammad Shahnawaz kept a Hindu girl from Ambedkar Nagar in Gujaini, Kanpur hostage for 25 days on the pretext of a providing job and then pressurized her to convert to Islam. When the girl refused, she was beaten with a belt and wire, and then the accused tried to burn her to death by sprinkling kerosene on her and setting her on fire.

However, the victim somehow called her relatives through her mobile, after which they took her to a nursing home in Parampurva and got her admitted. The Hindu girl lives in a rented house with her elderly grandmother after the death of her parents. She was working in a parlor in Yashoda Nagar and just three months back a friend introduced her to Mohammad Shahnawaz.

Shahnawaz called her to Alambagh in Lucknow on the pretext of getting her a job in a beauty parlor in Lucknow. The girl took a four-day leave and reached Alambagh. Shahnawaz kept her in a room for several days by threatening her.

The girl has stated that Shahnawaz was pressurizing her to convert to Islam. On January 3, she tried to escape but was caught. After this, he beat her badly with a wire and belt and set her on fire by sprinkling kerosene. However, during this time the nearby tenants came to hear the screams. After which Shahnawaz extinguished the fire and took the girl to the district hospital but threatened her against informing her family.

The teenage victim said that when Shahnawaz was sleeping, she made a video call to her aunt and called her to the hospital. She has also made a shocking allegation against police of trying to hush up the matter. She alleged that some policemen had come to the hospital and persuaded her to state that she set herself on fire.

According to the victim, on being threatened by the police, she talked about setting herself on fire in the video, but the truth is that Shahnawaz had set her on fire. Police has denied this charge and claim that she accepted setting herself on fire.

The truth of how the minor ended in hospital will only emerge after a thorough investigation. But one fact is clear – this is yet another case of a vulnerable, minor Hindu girl being groomed and lured by an Islamist man, who then exploits her mentally and physically.

Here are some other recent cases, from all over the country but particularly in UP, of Muslim men assaulting or threatening Hindu girls for not succumbing to their demands for conversion and marriage.

UK: Convicted paedophile given custody of young girl and gets her pregnant – as authorities believe ‘he poses low risk to kids’

A convicted child sex offender was given custody of a child before getting her pregnant, despite authorities knowing about his criminal record, a report has found.

The victim, known as Ruby, was abused for several years by the man, who was her legal guardian, according to a report by the Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership, made up of council officers, and local NHS and police leaders.

Ruby then became pregnant and needed a partnership, and it was only at this point that the campaign of abuse came to light.

Some concerns were raised about the paedophile’s previous criminal record, but the local authorities did not look for more legal advice before giving the girl into his care.

The report found that the authorities who decided to grant the man custody “over-relied” on old information which led them to believe that he posed a “relatively low risk to young girls”.

The man “gave the appearance of co-operating” and authorities did not show any “professional curiosity” in the fact that he could be a predator.

The victim told the review into her abuse that at first she did not understand what he had done to her as abuse, because it had “always” happened for as long as she could remember.

The predator threatened to commit suicide if she told anyone about the abuse.

The report said: “Throughout the process of this review, neither the independent author nor the independent chair have heard from any professional who has not expressed concern regarding the decision made in court.

“Yet, at the time, all trusted the assessment of risk that (the offender) could potentially pose and accepted the court decision.”

Commenting on the report, the partnership said: “We commissioned a fully independent child safeguarding practice review in relation to Ruby and the multi-agency services that she and her family received.

“Significant changes to systems and practice have been implemented as a result of the important learning achieved through the review, and other related multi-agency developments are underway that will result in further improvement.

“The Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership Executive and the wider children and young people’s partnership are fully committed to continually reviewing how agencies in Leeds work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in Leeds.”
