Public demo planned in Nantes to highlight citizens’ insecurity following arrests of Sudanese migrants for gang rape of woman walking home alone

The abhorrent attack on a French woman who was gang raped by three Sudanese migrants while walking home alone in Nantes on Saturday has sparked national outrage and a debate on the extent to which mass migration has affected national security.

After spending the evening with friends, the 40-year-old victim was returning home early on Saturday morning at approximately 5 a.m.. On her way home, she asked a group of males if they had a lighter for a cigarette, the public prosecutor of Nantes, Renaud Gaudeul, said during a press briefing. She was then accosted by three males who first requested she hand over her mobile phone and personal belongings.

When she refused their request, the victim was struck by a punch that threw her to the ground. The gang proceeded to steal her mobile phone before at least one of the attackers ripped her clothes off and raped her as she lay on the ground.

According to the French outlet, CNEWS, authorities acted swiftly in identifying three men corresponding to the description given by the victim. They are three Sudanese migrants, two of which are reportedly 27 years old, while the third is 41.

A policeman was reportedly attacked during the arrest, receiving a blow to the head that required stitches.

A “citizen rally against insecurity” will be held in Nantes on Saturday, Le Figaro reports, as residents signal their dismay concerning what they believe to be the prevailing insecurity of the people of the southern French city.

In the media backlash to the gruesome attack, experts took the airwaves to lament the extent to which security in Nantes and its surrounding areas has been rocked by mass migration.

Speaking to BFMTV, Christophe Rouget, a police commander and secretary general of the union of internal security executives, claimed that “migrants generate more than 50 percent of public crime” in the area.

A spokesperson for the Independent Union of Commissioners of Police, Matthieu Valet, slammed those who “thank the country that welcomes them by raping a woman in the middle of the street,” adding that “those who defile the country must be expelled.”

Philippe Guibert, who was previously head of the French governmental information service, claimed that one of the key problems in the area is “the reputation of the Nantes prefecture for granting papers more easily than elsewhere, hence an influx of people of foreign origin.”

The assailants remain in police custody and face a prison term if convicted of up to 20 years.

Thousands of Germans continue to protest against energy policy, sanctions

Last week’s anti-government protests in Schwerin, Magdeburg, Leipzig. Screenshot from YouTube

In central Germany, thousands of people demonstrated again on Monday against the high prices and against the government’s Russia and energy policies. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, more than 11 000 demonstrators came together at around 20 locations, around 4 500 of them in Schwerin alone, according to the police. In Brandenburg, too, numerous people took to the streets. No exact numbers were given here, but a week earlier there had already been more than 7 500 protesters.

According to preliminary information from the police situation center, around 3 000 demonstrators were on the move in Saxony-Anhalt. Thousands also took to the streets in Thuringia. There were initially no specific figures for Saxony – but according to the police, there were around 1 000 demonstrators at the start of the demonstration at 6:30 p.m. in Leipzig alone. One focus of the demonstration was the small town of Pirna in Saxony.

In Schwerin, speakers demanded, among other things, the lifting of sanctions against Russia and the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. An end to arms deliveries to Ukraine and negotiations with Russia were also demanded. The most applause, however, came for the demand for the resignation of Economics Minister Habeck (Greens).

An energy price cap was demanded in Neubrandenburg, and the demonstrators also demanded a general end to arms deliveries. Compared to the previous week, more German flags could be seen. About 670 people marched through the city. More than 1000 participants were also counted in Wismar and Parchim.

Govt of India bans Islamist org PFI and its affiliates for five years with immediate effect

On September 27, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India banned the Islamist organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associated or affiliated fronts with immediate effect for a period of five years by exercising its powers under sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).

It is noteworthy that PFI and its sister organisations have a presence in over 17 states in the country. Police and NIA had registered over 1,300 criminal cases against the cadres of PFI and its front organisations in different states. Some of these cases were also registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act/UAPA, the Explosive Substances Act, the Arms Act and other heinous sections of IPC.

In a gazetted notification, the GoI named its associates as Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala.

The government said that during the investigation, it was established that PFI created the associates or affiliates or fronts with an objective to enhance its reach “among different sections of the society such as youth, students, women, Imams, lawyers or weaker sections of the society with the sole objective of expanding its membership, influence and fundraising capacity”.

It was further mentioned that these organisations used their mass outreach and fundraising capacities to strengthen their capabilities for unlawful activities. It added, “The PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts operate openly as a socio-economic, educational and political organisation, but they have been pursuing a secret agenda to radicalise a particular section of the society working towards undermining the concept of democracy and show sheer disrespect towards the constitutional authority and constitutional set up of the country.”

Furthermore, PFI and its associates were found to be “indulging in unlawful activities which are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country and have the potential of disturbing public peace and communal harmony of the country and supporting militancy in the country”.

Links between PFI and SIMI

The notification clearly established a link between PFI and the banned Islamist organisation Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). It further added that PFI is also linked to with Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), also a banned organisation. In several instances, PFI was found to be connected to global terrorist groups such as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

‘PFI cadre joined international terrorist organisations’

It was pointed out that PFI members have joined international terrorist organisations. The government said, “The PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts have been working covertly to increase radicalisation of one community by promoting a sense of insecurity in the country, which is substantiated by the fact that some PFI cadres have joined international terrorist organisations in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.” GoI added that some of these cadres were killed in conflicts, and some were arrested by State Police and Central Agencies.

Cases that led to the ban of PFI

It was revealed that PFI’s involvement was found in several cases during the investigation, such as chopping off the limb of a college professor TJ Joseph and the murder of several persons, including one of the most recent ones where a Hindu activist Praveen Nettaru in Bellare town, district Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka. A total of ten accused were arrested in the case, and all of them were members of PFI. The local Police’s investigation revealed that the murder was planned by PFI and members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), which is the political front of PFI.

Other cases include the murder of Sanjith, an RSS worker in Kerala who was killed by cadres of PFI on November 15, 2021. In Tamil Nadu, the PFI cadres killed V Ramalingam (a Hindu leader) for challenging its Dawah activities in 2019. Other cases included the murder of Nandu (Kerala, 2021), Abhimanyu (Kerala, 2018), Bibin (Kerala, 2017), Sharath (Karnataka, 2017), R Rudresh (Karnataka, 2016), Praveen Poojari (Karnataka, 2016) and Sasi Kumar (Tamil Nadu, 2016).

Reports suggest that some AQ and ISIS training videos depicting gruesome murders had also been recovered from the PFI cadre accused in this case. Notably, such activities create fear and a feeling of terror among the members of other religious communities.

During investigations, agencies also recovered explosives and jihadi literature from the Padam forest area (district Kollam) in June 2021. PFI was using the forest area as a military training site. In April 2013, Kerala Police recovered arms and explosive materials from an arms training site in Narath (district Kannur). 41 PFI cadres were convicted in the case in 2016.

On July 4, a case was registered against one Abdul Khader, PFI’s Physical education instructor who had trained over 200 cadres of the organisation at his martial art training centre in Nizamabad. 26 other persons were also booked by the Police. During interrogation, it was revealed by the accused that PFI would be Muslim youth, specifically from the poor or middle class. They were instilled with anti-Hindutva ideology and imparted training that involved the use of swords and nun-chucks.

Funding of PFI and its usage in criminal or terrorist activities

GoI mentioned that PFI and its associates conspired and raised funds not only from India but from abroad via banking channels, hawala and donations under a well-crafted criminal conspiracy. These funds were transferred, layered and integrated using multiple accounts to project these organisations as legitimate. However, according to the GoI notification, these funds were used to carry out “various criminal, unlawful and terrorist activities in India”.

It is noteworthy that upon an investigation of the PFI accounts, it was found that over 100 accounts were not in sync with the financial profiles of the account holders. The Income Tax department, therefore, withdrew the registration status of PFI under sections 12A & 12 AA of the IT Act.

Recommendations for a ban on PFI

The notification pointed out that the state governments of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat recommended banning PFI. Furthermore, it said, “The Central Government is of the opinion that if there is no immediate curb or control of unlawful activities of the PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts, the PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts, will use this opportunity to cause public disturbance, undermine the constitution of India, encourage and enforce terror based regime, propagate anti-national sentiments, radicalise particular section of the society and aggravate activities which are detrimental to the integrity, security and sovereignty of the country”.

Country-wide raids on PFI

It is noteworthy that in the last couple of weeks, the central agencies, including NIA and ED, along with state police, have raided over a hundred locations linked to PFI across the country. More than 150 cadres of PFI were arrested or detained, including its chief OMA Salam.

Is the EU’s Establishment Trembling?

By S.R. Piccoli

The New York Times’ Jason Horowitz on Monday correctly stated that “Italy turned a page of European history on Sunday.” Unfortunately, he was wrong in adding that Italy elected “a hard-right coalition.” In fact, the winning coalition led by Giorgia Meloni is a center-right one. But this kind of misunderstanding perfectly reflects the way liberals — and the mainstream media — change the meaning of words to suit their own narrative and agenda. Meloni, for her part, describes herself and her Fratelli d’Italia party — Brothers of Italy, a name that echoes the first line of the Italian national anthem — as conservative. “There’s no doubt that our values are conservative ones,” she told the Washington Post. “The issue of individual freedom, private enterprise in economy, educational freedom, the centrality of family and its role in our society, the protection of borders from unchecked immigration, the defense of the Italian national identity — these are the matters that we preoccupy ourselves with.” Of course, she’s very firm on her beliefs and principles. As she said at CPAC 2022:

“We (conservatives) are proud of our identities, of what we stand for. We live in an age where everything it stands for is under attack: our individual freedom is under attack, our rights are under attack, the sovereignty of our nations is under attack, the prosperity and well-being of our families is under attack, our children’s education is under attack. Faced with this, people understand that in this era, the only way to be rebellious is to preserve who we are, the only way to be rebellious is to be conservative. […] I see cancel culture fanatics in our institutions tearing down statues, tempering with books and comics, changing street names, accusing a shared history that they would like to rewrite. […] All of you in America and we in Europe, and our friends on all the other continents, are proud of our identities, of what we stand for. And we know that our opponent is operating globally, applying the same tactics and with the same ideology, to destroy our identities and what makes us who we truly are.  […] Only a few months ago, European bureaucrats wrote a document, hundreds of pages long, telling us that in order to be inclusive we have to exclude all references to Christmas, Jesus, Mary and that all Christian names should be removed from all communications.”

Meloni concluded her speech with a quote from G.K. Chesterton, “’Fires will be kindled to testify that two and two make four. Swords will be drawn to prove that leaves are green in summer.’ The time of that battle has come, but they will find us ready for the battle.”

However, it’s true that Brothers of Italy has its roots in Italy’s far right. Founded in 2012, the party is the ideological descendent of the Italian Social Movement (Movimento Sociale Italiano) founded in 1946 by former supporters of fascism, and continues to use its symbol: the tricolor flame. But, as Meloni said in a campaign video, “The Italian right has handed fascism over to history for decades now, unambiguously condemning the suppression of democracy and the ignominious anti-Jewish laws.” Meloni visited Yad Vashem in 2009 when she was a minister in Silvio Berlusconi’s last government. Writing in her 2021 memoir I Am Giorgia, she described the experience as evidence of how “a genocide happens step by step, a little at a time.” In a speech disavowing fascism  she compared herself to “the British Tories, the U.S. Republicans and the Israeli Likud.” In her book, she frequently namechecks the British arch-conservative philosopher Roger Scruton.

There is nothing extremist in the above-mentioned concepts. And please take note that Fratelli d’Italia is the most right-wing party of the coalition. Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia is a moderate party and a member of the European People’s Party, which includes Christian-democratic, conservative, and liberal-conservative member parties, while the League is a pragmatic populist party with both left-wing and moderate roots — former Prime Minister Massimo D’Alema (ex-communist Democratic party), once labeled the League as “a rib of the left.”

As for the worries about Meloni’s anti-EU views, at a rally in Milan’s main square earlier this month, she said, “In Europe people are worried about Meloni. What will happen? What will happen is that the gravy train will come to an end. Italy will defend its national interests like others do — looking for common solutions but always starting on the basis of defending their interests.”

It is well known that Meloni is not alone on this path. Apart from her closeness to Hungary’s Viktor Orban, she is the president of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), a political group in the European Parliament established in 2009 under the founding principles of the Prague Declaration. It includes Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party as well as center-right parties on the rise in countries like Spain (Vox) and Sweden (Sweden Democrats — which after the results of the 2022 Swedish general election is the largest member of Sweden’s conservative bloc and the second largest party in the next Swedish parliament — and Independent).

Lastly, unlike her friend Orban, Meloni has staunchly supported Ukraine and its right to defend itself against Russian aggression and has vowed to supply Kyiv with arms if she were prime minister.

All in all, apart from the EU’s establishment and the international leftist community, no one should be worried about Italy’s next government.

Von der Leyen’s threat to intervene in democracy is a repetition of the Brezhnev Doctrine from the Soviet Union

It was all so predictable. Meloni branded as extreme right, the threat of “fascism,” and the democratic majority being labeled as radical, irresponsible, and ungrateful for the Soros enlightenment. It’s the same liberal media circus that has gone after Jarosław Kaczyński, Viktor Orbán, Janez Janša, Donald Trump, and others.

In Poland, Gazeta Wyborcza, the paper of well-known liberal intellectual Adam Michnik, has poured out hectoliters of bile mourning that the EU, which reacted to the Ukraine crisis with greater integration, is once more returning to a ”nationalist path.”

For over a thousand years, our ancestors cultivated statehood, a nationalist awareness. An awareness that all those who are patriots must now do everything in their power to defend.

In order to do that we must overcome the von der Leyen doctrine as expressed during the Italian election campaign. A doctrine highly reminiscent of the Brezhnev Doctrine of 1968, which was used to justify the Soviet intervention in Czechoslovakia. A doctrine that stated that the USSR has the right to intervene militarily if the principles of the socialist system are violated in any of the countries of the communist bloc. It was defined as protecting these countries against “alien anti-socialist forces” and the restoration of capitalism. In fact, it was a declaration of Moscow’s control over the whole communist bloc.

Today, Ursula von der Leyen is declaring something similar. All the treaties, constitutions, and democratic elections are secondary to the will of the European super-government if that body, the European Commission, rules that European values and interests are being violated.

As with the Brezhnev Doctrine, it has no legal basis. It is all about naked force. Not, for the time being, military force but rather financial blackmail, political leverage, and sanctions. The “tools” at the disposal of the Commission that von der Leyen mentioned are political rulings, blockades, and pressure.

Von der Leyen could not have been clearer. She said that the Commission has the power to bring Poland, Hungary, Sweden, and Italy to heel regardless of democratic elections. So, if elections deliver the “wrong result,” rule of law, democracy, and sovereignty can be overridden in support of German interests and preferences.

Opposing the von der Leyen doctrine is now the task of all European patriots. We must not allow the noble cause of European cooperation, free trade, and a single market to be transformed into a new form of enslavement by which everything becomes centrally regulated, including religion, education, family law, and migration. The idea of creating a German-dominated European superstate that limits the development of others and takes away their sovereignty and independence must be rejected.

Sorry Liberals, But The Nazis Were Progressive Leftists

You’ve probably known someone in your life who was simply full of it, right? A friend of a friend or acquaintance who lied constantly, burning a lot of calories trying to convince people to believe people of something that simply wasn’t so. That is how Democrats are on almost every issue, but there’s one in particular they desperately need to fool people on not only so they can use it as a weapon, but also so they can hide the horrors their political philosophy have committed against the people unfortunate enough to live under their absolute reign.

The real “big lie” is the creator of the concept of a big lie was somehow “right-wing.” The simple truth is every single despotic totalitarian is a left-winger. Under the umbrella of “progressive” lives socialism, communism and fascism. But to hide the reality of what their ideological brethren have committed, Democrats lie and say monsters like Mao, Stalin and Hitler were of the right. This is impossible.

There’s a very simple way to think about this: think of political philosophy as a line with a right and left direction. One side wants a government that does more, that grows in size and scope, and the other wants one with a shrinking, smaller government doing less. Where do all of those “isms” fall on that spectrum? They all feature massive government taxing the hell out of everyone, mandating behavior and regulating lives.

Yet, in an attempt to hide the ultimate nature of their agenda, Democrats and the media would have you believe that, as you down the right side of the political spectrum and government is shrinking, at a certain point government explodes into something gigantic with absolute control over everyone. The conservative belief in individual rights disappears and becomes about collectivism, then it shrinks again as the line slides off to eventual anarchy, which is the absence of government.

How does that work? There is no rational way to ascribe fascism to the right other than deflection. The Nazis were the National SOCIALIST German Workers’ Party, it’s right there in their name. Look up Hitler implemented from a policy perspective and you’ll find a lot of socialism. He was very much a supporter of collectivism, he simply excluded people he hated or needed as scapegoats. Everything else was socialism.

Communism, socialism and fascism differ only slightly, mostly in methods. They fought in the early 20th century not because they were so different, they fought because each wanted to be THE leading philosophy of the progressive movement. They all embraced eugenics – the idea that “undesirable people” should be bred out of existence, to put it in the most basic terms. Democrats in this country did, Nazis in Germany did. Progressives only distanced themselves from fascism and eugenics when World War II happened and it would have hurt them electorally to be associated with fascists. But if you look you can find many prominent progressive politicians saying nice things about fascists, like FDR praising Benito Mussolini.

Quotes like those aren’t hard to find; the truth never is. It’s getting people to realize it after having been lied to their whole lives that’s the hard part. How do you convince someone that they’ve been indoctrinated, brainwasher really, into believing a lie? It’s not easy.

The continues to this day. The newswire service UPI ran a headline this week, “Giorgia Meloni set to become Italy’s first far-right leader since Mussolini.” Mussolini, the father of fascism, was of the left. A true “far-right leader” would be someone who embraces individualism. Facts don’t matter, the agenda does.

Here’s a simple way to illustrate my point. The New York Times, one of the hubs in perpetrating this big lie, Tweeting a story about, of all places, Germany this week, wrote, “Battling far-right extremism, Germany has gone further than any other Western democracy to prosecute individuals for what they say online, testing the limits of free speech on the internet.”

Ask yourself a basic question: Which seems more fascistic, writing mean things, no matter how nasty, online from your couch or arresting people who write mean things online from their couch and throwing them in prison? Then ask yourself which party in this country would love little more than doing the exact same thing. Your answer isn’t the “semi-fascists,” they’re the real thing.

Nordstream pipeline likely sabotaged

The politically motivated sabotage behind the apparently serious and wanton damage to the gas pipelines Nordstream 1 and Nordstream 2 were likely ordered by a technically and militarily highly developed state. The aim of this crime, a very large-scale crime, could only have been to destroy any hope of further gas deliveries from Russia to Germany.

Who could be the perpetrator of this act of state terrorism?

The US has a strong motive and all the means to shut down the pipelines. A very strong indication is the declaration by its President Biden at the beginning of February that the US would never allow Nordstream 2 to go into operation.

Russia had little motive to blow up its own infrastructure. If it had wanted to stop gas deliveries it could easily just have turned off the flow.

“Thank you USA,” Polish MEP Radek Sikorski tweeted on Tuesday. He added that the damage to Nordstream meant that Russia would have to “talk to the countries controlling the Brotherhood and Yamal gas pipelines, Ukraine and Poland” if it wishes to continue delivering gas to Europe. “Good work,” he concluded. Sikorsky is married to US neocon Anne Applebaum.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed surprise at what amounted to an “official statement that this was a terrorist attack”, while Moscow’s deputy ambassador to the UN, Dmitry Polyanskiy, thanked Sikorski for “making it crystal clear who stands behind this terrorist-style targeting of civilian infrastructure!”

Sabotaging gas pipelines is essentially committing a terrorist act against European civilians with the clear intention of forcing them to buy only the gas that is approved by the Biden administration.

Germany must find the culprit

It remains the duty and obligation of the German government and authorities to find the guilty party and to make them liable for the damage. Since the government itself could be under suspicion, it should launch a politically independent investigation. The pipelines are multi-billion dollar facilities funded by German taxpayers. The Germans have a right to the truth and punishment of the perpetrators.

The sabotage comes in the wake of thousands of Germans protesting against their government’s sanctions policy and the huge spike in energy prices, particularly gas prices. The protesters had also demanded an end to sanctions on Russia and called for the operational restart of Nordstream 2.

Evidence of the sabotage was seen as gas bubbled into the Baltic near the Danish island of Bornholm. Nordstream 1 was damaged due to explosions in two different places, one in Swedish economic zone and one in Danish economic zone. Danish air force aircraft have confirmed leakages on Nordstream 2.

The news will not contribute to easing a severe energy crisis facing Europe, owing to the conflict in Ukraine and also the dire repercussions of anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the EU.

Both pipelines are operated by a consortium majority-owned by Russian gas giant Gazprom. Neither of the two damaged pipelines were in service, although filled with gas. Operation of the first was suspended last month by Gazprom, citing maintenance and safety issues. Nordstream 2 had been in service since 2011.

The explosions mean huge economic losses for those who invested in these projects – Gazprom, the German energy companies Wintershall Dea AG and PEGI/E.ON, the Dutch infrastructure company N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie, leading French energy company ENGIE.

NATO’s 2022 exercises focused on mining capabilities

The approximate locations of the leaks in the Bornholm Basin area (mean depth of 43m), is shallow enough for specialised diving operations as well as the use of Remotely Operated Vehicles, (as was the case for the construction of both pipelines).

The “significant focus” of NATO’s BALTOPS each year is the demonstration of its mining capabilities. This year, the US Navy had tested its emerging technology, US Naval Forces Europe-Africa Public Affairs announced on June 14.

The US Navy’s 6th Fleet partnered with its research and warfare centers “to bring the latest advancements” in unmanned underwater vehicle mining technology to the Baltic Sea “to demonstrate the vehicle’s effectiveness in operational scenarios”.

“Experimentation was conducted off the coast of Bornholm, Denmark, with participants from Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport, and Mine Warfare Readiness and Effectiveness Measuring all under the direction of US 6th Fleet Task Force 68,” it was reported.

Baltic Sea states’ navies have routinely inspected the area in order to clear mines and ordnance to ensure safety, especially in the vicinity of maritime infrastructure. “Engineering analysis based on the effects of underwater explosion has shown that a mine free ‘security corridor’ 25 metres either side of the pipeline is required to ensure its integrity,” Nordstream 1 noted in a press release.

The culprit may not be able to hide

Russia has built passive ASS (autonomous seabed stations) to detect surface and submarine acoustic signatures and record and catalogue them for reference.

“When in place on the seabed, the ASS deploys a fixed multi-element and hose-type sonar antennas that are many meters long. These stations can conduct passive sonar exploration by simply listening to what is happening around them, to trying to detect. Noise components and mechanisms of ships and aircraft. The ASS can also emit a special active beep, which detects and classifies surface and underwater targets.”

Acoustic signature identification is sophisticated and reliable for identifying what type of vessel (surface or submarine) is operating within the sensor range and Russia has been capturing and classifying US-NATO ships and submarines operating in the Baltic Sea for a number of years.

79 Islamists are released from German prisons

Between January this year and the end of next year, 79 Islamists are expected to be released from German prisons. Among them are 34 accused and convicted of terrorist and other Islamist offences as well as 45 accused and convicted of other offences who are considered or suspected to be Islamists. This is the result of an official answer by the federal government to a parliamentary question by the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Parliament, as reported in the Wednesday edition of the newspaper “Die Welt”.

Among the released prisoners are also IS fighters. According to the Federal Government, at the beginning of this year there were twelve persons imprisoned in Germany who had taken part in fighting operations of the Islamic State (IS), had been trained in handling weapons, had carried out or prepared attacks for the IS or had been trained in handling explosives. Of these, two persons have been released from prison since January 1, 2022 after serving their sentences, and a further three persons from this group are expected to be released by December 31, 2023.

The answer to the minor question further reveals that twelve persons from the Islamist spectrum have been deported to their country of origin since the beginning of this year. The domestic policy spokesman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Alexander Throm, told Die Welt: “We call on the federal government to take immediate measures to control Islamist hazards as well as possible after their release from prison.” The imminent releases posed a “not inconsiderable security risk”, the CDU politician continued.

“Against these ticking time bombs, the governing coalition must also introduce subsequent preventive detention for offenders who have become further radicalised during their time in prison.” CDU interior politician Throm further demanded: “In addition, the instrument of preventive detention must be extended in time to a maximum duration of one month with the possibility of extension to two months.”

Too low IQ: Criminal Kosovar may not be expelled from Switzerland

A surprisingly lenient sentence was handed down in a Swiss court in the case of a Kosovar ( aged 25). The man had committed various frauds over several years. For example, he falsified user accounts of the Swiss Federal Railways dozens of times under a false name and address – and travelled across the country in first class at the expense of others. He also ordered articles from various companies under a false name. He resold the scammed goods – but never paid the invoices.

The prosecutor called the accused’s behaviour in the Winterthur court “deceitful, brazen” and a “testimony of criminal energy”. She demanded a 36-month prison sentence and a ten-year expulsion from the country for the Kosovar.

His defence called this an “unimaginable catastrophe”: the young man had only lived in Kosovo for three years, barely spoke Albanian, and had no family there. The defence also put forward an unusual argument: The defendant had an unusually low IQ of 70, which was why he had dropped out of school and had then gone off the rails. He also suffered from an immature personality.

The judge accepted the arguments of the defence in his judgement. Due to the man’s intentions to improve – he has not committed a crime for two and a half years – he was not expelled from the country. In addition, mitigating circumstances were that the Kosovar had attended every therapy session so far and had already paid back part of the damages. He was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment, nine of them unconditional. He has already served these months in pre-trial detention. The Kosovar is now at large again, but has to undergo five years of therapy.
