Students at Swedish junior and senior high schools have thrown up something of an anomaly to the assumption that young people vote left-wing after swinging significantly to the right in support of conservative parties in a national mock school election.

The voters of tomorrow appear to be increasingly more right-leaning than the general population, with preliminary reports showing 27 percent voted for the center-right Moderates, 21 percent supported the right-wing Sweden Democrats, and just 16 percent backed the left-wing Social Democrats.

Support for the Moderates was up 6 percent on the previous mock school election held in 2018, while support for the Sweden Democrats was up 5 percent, and those backing the Social Democrats dropped by 3 percent.

The Left Party also lost support versus 2018, while the Green Party plummeted by 6 percent and the center-right Christian Democrats gained 6 percent.

“I must say that it is somewhat surprising,” political scientist Marja Lemne of the Södertörn University told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.

One explanation Lemne offered for the results is that something of a “blue rebellion” could be being witnessed across the country after eight years of left-wing governance.

“There will be a young opposition to what has been. The last eight years of red-green rule are a very large part of their conscious life, but now they are looking for something new,” she said.

On the demise of the Swedish Green Party, Lemne said, “It may just be (people’s) imagination that youth are so interested in environmental issues.”

The school results broadly correlate with the trajectory of last Sunday’s general election in Sweden, which saw considerable gains for right-wing, populist parties. The election result will enable the formation of a conservative coalition government with a working majority.

Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson admitted defeat on Thursday and conceded the election to a coalition of right-leaning parties as conservatives across Europe celebrated.

The right-wing, populst Sweden Democrats emerged as the second-largest party in Sweden with over 20 percent of the national vote.

With Swedish youth, many of whom will become eligible to vote over the next four years, already sympathetic to the conservative cause, the country currently known for its enthusiastic approach to mass immigration could witness a political overhaul in the years ahead.

The EU Parliament has agreed that Hungary is not a democracy. A “hybrid system of electoral autocracy” prevails in the country, according to a non-binding resolution voted for by a majority of MPs on Thursday, the AFP news agency reported. The resolution had been pushed by several factions, including the Greens and the Social Democrats.

The Brussels parliamentarians criticized the fact that the EU had not shown enough commitment against alleged abuses in Hungary. It is partly responsible for the alleged collapse of democracy, the rule of law and fundamental rights in the country.

In addition to the left camp, the Flemish NVA from the European Conservatives and Reformers faction also voted in favor of the resolution. Likewise, Hungarian Jobbik MP Márton Gyöngyösi supported the push against his country.

Former Social Democratic Party (SPD) member of the state parliament Michael Höntsch was attacked by a pro-Palestinian demonstrator in Hanover. The preliminary proceedings have now been dropped. The 68-year-old notes a “strange timidity” in the fight against Muslim anti-Semitism.

Höntsch’s daughter-in-law Rebecca Seidler was present at the incident and was fined 128.50 euros at the beginning of September. She is accused of holding an open-air assembly that had not been reported and thus of committing an administrative offence.

Seidler is the executive director of the Liberal Jewish Community of Hanover. According to her, she had come to the rally with Höntsch in order to observe and document possible anti-Semitic incidents and violations of regulations.

Höntsch had not brought the Israel flag himself, but held it spontaneously in silent protest together with a woman who had it with her.

“It is hard to understand that the physical attack against me remains without consequences, while my daughter-in-law is punished for observing a demonstration,” says Höntsch. The former interior politician had decided against pressing charges himself at the time – out of concern that he would become even more the focus of those who behaved so aggressively at the rally.

“With consideration for my family, I had thoughtfully refrained from pressing charges. I was directly exposed to the demonstrators’ propensity for violence and was worried that I could be threatened again,” said the 68-year-old. Concern for personal data also played a role. “I don’t want to meet the men who attacked me again alone”.

Höntsch learned via WELT about the dismissal of the case against the suspect from the pro-Palestinian demonstration. “I am frustrated and would have liked the attack on me to have led to a conviction for assault,” he says. “The anti-Semitism from the right is recognised. But there is a strange timidity when it comes from the Arab or Turkish part of the population.”

The topics of willingness to report and discontinuation of preliminary proceedings play a recurring role in anti-Semitic attacks. The annual reports of Claudia Vanoni, the anti-Semitism officer of the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office, show that in 2019 and 2020, only 13 per cent of the hundreds of cases with an anti-Semitic background in the capital were prosecuted or criminal charges were issued in each case.

A spokesperson for the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior said that the state government regretted that “a former member of the state parliament apparently fell to the ground due to the influence of a Palestinian activist”. The initiation of administrative offence proceedings against Rebecca Seidler could be “regretted against the background of the overall events”, the spokesperson continued. The state police headquarters will now examine whether a fine can be waived.

A serving member of London’s Metropolitan Police, has been charged with allegedly having sexual activity with an underage girl and twelve other crimes against children, including taking indecent images.

PC Hussain Chehab, an officer assigned to the North Area Command Unit of the Met in Enflied, London, was charged with a total of 13 crimes against children on Tuesday after being arrested in July of last year. The police officer has since been suspended from duty by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.

He has been charged with four counts of sexual activity with an underage girl, who was between the ages of 13 and 15 years old during the time of the alleged attacks.

Chehab has also been accused of five counts of producing indecent images of children, as well as taking indecent images of children, spreading and encouraging the distribution of indecent images of children, and engaging in sexual communication with a child, LBC reported.

The offences are all alleged to have occurred between 2019 and 2021 when he was still a serving member of the police force that is tasked with keeping the British capital safe.

Commenting on the charges, the head of the North Area Command Unit, DCS Caroline Haines said: “We recognise that this news will cause concern within the community and we have fully engaged with our local partners throughout this investigation.

“The Met has announced a comprehensive review of its standards as part of a genuine commitment to rebuild trust but I understand that developments such as this undermine that work.

“We would encourage anyone who has concerns about the actions of any of our officers to report them to us immediately.”

Police in Raigad has arrested a Muslim cleric for allegedly molesting 3 minor girls in Karjat. The girls were aged between 5 to 12 years. The accused, identified as Hussain Rampurwala, delivers religious lectures to children at a Jamatkhana in Karjat, where the alleged crime took place.

The accused has been sent to police custody till Friday after a case was registered against him under section 354 of the IPC and the relevant sections of the POCSO Act.

The accused was arrested after the parents of an 11-year-old girl approached the police with their complaint on September 13. According to police, the parent of the girl had taught her about good touch and bad touch and when she realised that the cleric was trying to touch her inappropriately, she complained to her parents when she went back.

As per the complainant, the cleric was touching the girls from five years old to 12 years old inappropriately. Based on the complaint, the police arrested the cleric.

The cleric used to teach holy books to the girls from the age of 5 years to 12 years in the Jamatkhana. Police are checking with the other girls there to see if they had also faced abuse at the hands of the cleric.

Horrific attack on young female motorcyclist! Three men thwarted and beat up a female biker (20) in the Upper Bavarian district of Starnberg!
