France: A street in the town of Stains is symbolically renamed after the wife of the Prophet Mohammed
The participants of the project “Place aux femmes”, supported by the association Mémoires Croisées, explain: “Women in history are inspiring for us women of today. That’s why when the landlord CDC Habitat social (the funder) and the Maison pour tous des quartiers Maroc et Avenir (the partner) proposed these workshops to us, we immediately agreed. “Place aux femmes” is a participatory art project by photographer and author Philippe Monges, who explains his approach: “I wanted to encourage reflection on the place of women in public space, in our cities and more generally in society. I want to give them more prominence again by naming our streets, homes and public buildings after women who inspire us through their careers or struggles.” A joint commitment with that of the city administration to make the names of public buildings and places more “feminine”, and which therefore convinced the Neighbourhood House. African man claimed to create ‘green energy’ from modified television sets, and top German public news outlets fell for it
Some of Germany’s top news networks were bamboozled over claims that a Zimbabwean inventor made a green energy invention that could power other devices without electrical cables, and could even turn a television into a “microsonic” device that could generate electricity solely from radio waves. Despite the technology not existing, the journalist repeated the claim from the inventor that “racism” was the reason the fictitious green energy solution had not spread to Europe yet.
The report, which some critics have labeled as “fake news,” was first published on ARD’s Tagesschau news service, which is the flagship of the public broadcaster. On Friday, the outlet ran what seemed to be a sensational story claiming that Zimbabwean Maxwell Chikumbutso had produced an invention that was truly groundbreaking and could be one “solution” to Germany’s current energy crisis.
The news article, from ARD correspondent in South Africa Jana Genth, was full of holes from the beginning. She claimed in her report that even though the inventor’s television could be turned off, it could still power other devices through “radio waves.”
A video where the man can be seen promoting his device can also be seen here:
The alleged inventor points out that his device converts radio waves into electricity, and showcased how his television could run even though it was not plugged in. Better yet, he claims the television powered by his device can then convert energy to be used by other devices.
“Now, the TV set is a microsonic device that generates energy. Even when the TV is off, it can power other things,” claimed Maxwell Chikumbutso, the alleged inventor.
“The television uses, in a way, free, renewable, and green energy. There are no emissions, consumption, or raw materials. It uses the radio waves and converts them,” Genth writes while quoting the African “inventor.”
She also claimed that Chikumbutso said U.S. researchers had confirmed that the invention worked, but as she later admitted on Twitter, she never made any attempt to reach out to other scientists or researchers to verify the claims made by the Zimbabwe-based inventor, instead relying entirely on the Chikumbutso’s account.
“Despite all my inquiries, I have not had any contact with scientists from the USA who, according to Maxwell Chikumbutso, should have tested and verified his alleged invention. He wants it developed, he claims. That’s how I should have phrased it in the tweet,” she wrote after the story was published.
The journalist only reacted after criticism arose on Twitter, at which point the popular Bild newspaper ran a story just two hours later criticizing the Taggeschau story, writing that Taggeschau fell for a scammer.
In fact, the taxpayer-funded German media outlet did not even need to contact any scientists to ascertain that Chikumbutso was a scam artist; a simple Google search would have revealed that he has made other outlandish claims. Just a few years ago, he said he had produced an electric car invention that does not need to be charged and could simply run on magnetic waves and radio frequencies. To date, he has provided no evidence that such an invention exists.
Chikumbutso claims “racism” was why Europe hasn’t embraced his invention
Three hours after Bild ran their story debunking the original piece, Taggeschau deleted the article without any correction or explanation. However, Deutsche Welle, another taxpayer-funded media giant, also ran an audio version of the piece.
“It sounds like part of the solution to our energy hunger,” promises the narrator of the video in an attempt to hype the invention.
Deutsche Welle even went so far as to claim the technology behind the invention is already being utilized, but provides no evidence as to how and where it is being used.
Deutsche Welle reported that the energy solution had not become widespread, hinting that racism may be the reason. It indicated that “in an interview with Jana Genth, the inventor complains that this also has to do with a large degree of racism.”
Deutsche Welle also dropped the article after a day without any comment, and no correction was issued there either. For readers of the two outlets, they may still believe that a miracle energy solution is available from Africa that is simply not being used due to racism.
The article was published at a time that Germany is experiencing energy shortages due to gas sanctions on Russia, and inflation is eating into the country’s entire economy. As a result, the media in Germany is rife with articles about the energy crisis and potential solutions. For some journalists, a feel-good story about an African inventor who seemed to create a miraculous new form of energy generation appeared to be too tempting not to run.
Critics pointed to the gullibility and lack of journalistic standards shown at the publicly funded media outlets that ran the story. In Germany, all citizens are required to pay a media fee to support a vast state-run media empire, but in recent months, pushback has grown, especially following a massive corruption scandal that resulted in over 197,000 people signing a petition demanding the abolishment of the mandatory media fees.

Pakistani passenger creates ruckus on Dubai-bound flight, tries breaking the plane’s window mid-air: Watch
In a shocking incident, a Pakistani passenger onboard a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Peshawar to Dubai created a ruckus inside the plane and tried to break the plane’s window, a video of which has gone viral on the internet.
According to the reports, the man started throwing tantrums as soon as the flight boarded and asked the cabin crew to get him off the aircraft. He then started stripping, punching, and kicking the seats and also kicked a window pane while the aircraft was mid-air, causing panic among the passengers and flight crew alike.
In the video shared above, one of the cabin crew members tries to calm the man down. However, the man loses his cool, jumps over the seats and kicks the adjoining window pane.
In another video of the incident, the passenger removed his belongings, lied down on the aisle blocking the passage and started giving Azaan (Islamic call to public prayer) inside the plane.
The video of the man’s erratic behaviour, seemingly shot by one of the co-passengers, had instantly gone viral after it was shared on social media.
According to a report published in Dawn, with much effort, the crew restrained the passenger and tied his hands and feet as per aviation procedures.
Upon arrival in Dubai, the cabin crew took the passenger through security and informed the PIA management about the incident. The PIA immediately sent a two-member team from Islamabad to bring him back to Pakistan. Later the local authorities informed the PIA management who immediately sent a two-member team from Islamabad to bring the passenger back.
German beer and soda industries grow desperate as hundreds of companies face bankruptcy wave
As energy and other input costs sharply rise, Germany’s beverage industry is warning of an imminent wave of bankruptcies in the coming months, with hundreds of firms involved in beer and soda production under severe threat.
“The cost increases for companies have long since reached a level that threatens their existence. This affects crafts and medium-sized businesses as well as the entire industry,” complained five associations in a joint statement.
The main causes are the high energy and raw material prices as well as logistics problems and CO2 shortages. CO2 is a major component in beer and other carbonated beverages. These rising costs now threaten hundreds of companies, many of which have struggled with the threat of bankruptcy years before the coronavirus crisis and the current inflation shock.
“Whether gas, electricity, or fuel, whether agricultural raw materials, packaging, or logistics — excessive cost increases, coupled with increasing disruptions in the supply chain up to delivery failures, are exceeding the resilience threshold for many companies in the beverage industry,” according to the group of industry associations.
Many manufacturers are still struggling with the difficulties of the coronavirus crisis, which sent shockwaves through the beverage industry. Restaurants, catering halls, bars, clubs, and hotels were shuttered, leading to massive losses for a wide range of sectors, with beverage producers especially hard hit. As a result, companies have already burned through capital reserves, and now the next crisis has already arrived.
The producers of beer, mineral water, and soda are particularly badly affected, as CO2 is required for their production. According to Die Welt newspaper, fruit juice manufacturers are currently reporting additional production costs of €120 million, while breweries say their costs rose by almost €800 million. These companies and the associations representing them are now demanding intervention from the federal government and electricity and gas price caps, which have been introduced in other countries like Belgium, France, and Spain.
“The federal government must not leave the companies alone in this situation,” write the managing directors of the Association of German Mineral Springs (VDM), the German Brewers’ Association (DBB), the Association of Private Breweries Germany, the Association of the German Fruit Juice Industry (VdF), and the Federal Association of German Beverage Wholesalers. “Without rapid government intervention and without effective aid, hundreds of companies and thousands of employees will lose their livelihoods in the German beverage industry alone.”
The associations write that beverage companies cannot simply raise prices either, pointing to consumers who have little to no financial reserves to afford price increases and the fact that retailers have most of the pricing power.
Other industries are already seeing bankruptcies, including the first organic food supermarkets. Germans are increasingly turning to bargain-priced foods and other goods after food prices rose 14 percent in July compared to the same month last year, according to German newspaper Taggespiegel. This has left organic food and health stores increasingly losing market share to cheaper retailers. Organic supermarkets saw a 16.5 percent reduction in sales in the first half of the year while health food stores saw sales drop by 39.5 percent, according to the market research company GfK.
Marine Le Pen blasts sanctions against Russia
Marine Le Pen, the chairwoman of the RN group in the National Assembly blasted “a European Union hysterical about the war in Ukraine calling inappropriate and ill-considered sanctions” against Russia.
On international issues, Marine Le Pen also denounced a “hallucinating speech of Mrs. Von der Leyen“, the president of the European Commission, about the conflict in Ukraine and Russia, reproaching her “dangerous bellicose postures”.
Le Pen celebrated the “patriotic wave” in Europe, in Sweden or “tomorrow” in Italy and “the day after tomorrow” in the Netherlands, also promising France a “great political shift”, in Agde (Hérault) during the Summer University of the National Rally (RN) on September 18.
She received a standing ovation when she went on stage. The finalist of the presidential elections judged “inexorable” this “great return of the nations of Europe”, a “political revolution” and “a disavowal of a European Union” which is “not even federal but imperial”.
These “popular and national movements” won “yesterday in Sweden, tomorrow in Italy, probably the day after tomorrow” in the Netherlands with “the courageous and peaceful peasant revolt that is taking place there” in the face of “Dutch globalist power”, she said, after the unprecedented victory of a combination of right-wing and nationalists in the Swedish parliamentary elections.
In Italy, a coalition bringing together Giorgia Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia (nationalists, eurosceptics) and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia (liberal right) is considered the favourite for the legislative elections of 25 September.
In an informal discussion with journalists, Marine Le Pen explained that she has known Giorgia Meloni “for a long time”, even though the RN’s “historical ally” is the League of former interior minister and current senator Matteo Salvini.
In France, with the formation of a group of 89 RN deputies following the June legislative elections, Marine Le Pen described “a major electoral revolution”, “the greatest victory the national movement has seen in its 50 years of existence”.
This “lays the foundation for the great political changeover”, she said in this return speech on the theme of “alternation for France”. “She also said that only the Rassemblement National could oppose immigration.
“Macron wants to impose on you the installation, in your villages, of an immigration that you did not ask for. This additional immigration is the overflow of the one that saturates the metropolises and makes certain districts almost unlivable.
“For Emmanuel Macron and his friends, for almost all the political class, immigration is not a problem but a project,” said Le Pen.
“We are living a democratic uprising against the yoke of these corrupting and destructive ideologies: globalism, business, immigration, wokism, minorities, the dictatorship of extremist groups speaking in the name of minorities who ask for nothing.
“We have experienced a major electoral revolution, a peaceful revolution, a democratic revolution, an event that lays the foundation for the great political shift that will be necessary. I believe that this movement is inexorable.”
She added: “Don’t forget that it is with the eminent and rare qualities that you have shown that France has always risen from the difficult situations to which history has led it. The commentators won’t tell you this, but now they know and respect the strength of your convictions, your spirit of discipline, your admirable sense of camaraderie, your incredible capacity for resilience.”
With Le Pen, France has the opportunity to implement a programme that would mark a real break in French foreign policy. In addition to the desire to withdraw from the rules of the European Union, the Rassemblement National’s programme foresees an exit from the integrated command of NATO.
The RN is holding its Summer Universities from 16 to 18 September in the seaside resort of Cap d’Agde, with speeches on the closing day by Louis Aliot and Jordan Bardella, who are both running for the party presidency at the congress scheduled for early November.
