Approaching demographic winter as EU youth figures drop further

The Germans are already known for their catastrophic demographic situation. The Federal Statistical Office reported yet another low: the proportion of 15 to 24-year-olds in the total German population has fallen to 10 percent for the first time since statistical records began. In Central Germany, young people only make up eight percent of the population.

In figures: of the 83,2 million people who lived in Germany at the end of last year, 8,3 million were between 15 and 24 years old, as the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced on Monday. This corresponds to a share of 10 percent. The number of people in this age group is thus smaller, both in absolute terms and proportionally, than at any time since the beginning of the time series in 1950.

According to the information, the value has been falling continuously since 2005, with the exception of 2015. Young people made up the highest proportion of the total population in the first half of the 1980s, when baby boomers were in their teens. In 1983 there were still 13,1 million 15 to 24 year olds, and their share of the total population was 16,7 percent.

The Federal Office recorded the lowest proportion of young people at the end of 2021 with 8.0 percent in Brandenburg, followed by Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with 8,3 percent each. Bremen had the highest proportion in this age group (11 percent). It was followed by Baden-Württemberg (10,6 percent) and Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia (10,5 percent each).

For a European comparison, Germany’s figures are only slightly below average: according to figures from the EU statistical authority Eurostat, the proportion of 15 to 24-year-olds across the EU at the beginning of 2021 was an average of 10,6 percent. The proportion was highest in Ireland (12,6 percent), followed by Denmark and Cyprus, each with 12,3 percent. It was lowest in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria (9 percent each).

France: Afghan randomly stabs passers-by

UPDATE

(…) The man “attacked passers-by with stab wounds, uttering words in Arabic several times”, said prosecutor Delphine Dewailly in a press release.

(…) According to our information, the alleged attacker is from Afghanistan and is said to have obtained his stabbing weapon from a nearby supermarket shortly before the attack. “The arrested man is a foreign national and has been living in Le Mans for a short time. Le Figaro

A man said to be from Afghanistan attacked several passers-by with a knife in the streets of Le Mans (Sarthe) on Wednesday July 27, Le Figaro newspaper learned from police sources, confirming a report by Ouest-France. The 30-year-old is suspected of stabbing two people near the Pont du Greffier bridge at around 2pm. The suspect was arrested by the police. The two victims are not in danger of death.

It all started around 2 p.m. at the Super U shop on Avenue de la Libération, just a few hundred metres away. A man with a black beard entered the supermarket shouting incomprehensible words, a customer says, adding: “He was frightening, everyone was dumbfounded and stressed. A clerk reportedly asked him to calm down before the man complied and went to the kitchen utensils section.”

A few minutes after the incident, the man, “who appeared to be lunatic,” we are told, was arrested by police and subsequently taken to hospital.

The incident took place in the early afternoon near the Pont du Greffier, also called Pont de Fer, in Le Mans.Le Figaro ; Ouest France

UK regulator finds Muslim TV station guilty of ‘antisemitic hate speech’

British broadcast regulatory authority Ofcom ruled that Shia Muslim TV channel Ahlebait was guilty of “antisemitic hate speech” in response to Community Security Trust (CST) complaints it received.

Ofcom said the Shia Muslim station broadcast material that “amounted to antisemitic hate speech” and was “abusive and derogatory towards Jewish people,” the UK Jewish News reported.

The ruling came after Ofcom looked into complaints made by the CST over a live discussion show that aired in March 2021. During a discussion on “20th Hour” about money and power, one of the guests spoke about Jews, saying: ”Their antisemitism comes from their actions of impoverishing people and they then respond and then they call it antisemitism but we know that it’s because they do and they get punished and as Allah says, you know, he will expel… send them to all corners of the world to be an excoriation and a hissing and a booing to wherever he had sent them…. So antisemitism comes from debt, not cancelling the debt, and usury.”

He added this was why Jews had been “expelled from 47 different countries and city-states in the last one thousand years.”

The host of the show called the antisemitic statements “interesting” and then claimed that “money is being weaponized” by the US.

Another guest said: “It’s worth just noting that antisemitism was created by Theodor Herzl at the back end of the 19th century in order to frighten and create the circumstances that would encourage Jews to migrate to Israel so antisemitism is actually a Jewish creation.”

Ofcom said they had investigated the program for three violations of regulations: hate speech, material that is derogatory towards a religion, and breaching acceptable standards.

In their ruling, Ofcom said: “In the context of a program in which all three contributors were united in advocating a fairer society, speaking from positions of moral certainty and with the dual status conferred on the guests of both religious and secular experts, there was, in our view, increased potential for viewers to have given particular weight to the contributors’ views and taken seriously the hatred expressed against Jewish people.”

In a statement, Ahlebait replied that the channel’s purpose was to “facilitate understanding between contemporary Islamic thought and the world.”

The channel also apologized for the antisemitic content, stating it was “highly regrettable and should never have been broadcast.”

The channel also issued an on-air apology in June 2021: ”The channel sincerely regrets that these potentially offensive antisemitic remarks were broadcast and apologizes.”

Würzburg migrant killer who stabbed 3 women to death avoids prison on mental health grounds

A Somali national who launched into an indiscriminate stabbing frenzy in the Bavarian city of Würzburg last June, killing three women and injuring seven others, has been found not guilty of murder and will instead receive institutional mental health treatment rather than serve time in prison.

In a judgment handed down on Tuesday, the German court accepted the evidence of two independent reports that stated the assailant, Abdirahman Jibril A., was mentally ill and therefore not guilty of the heinous crime on June 25, 2021.

The court had heard how the migrant, who had lied about his age upon entry to Germany in 2015, had shouted “Allahu Akbar” before the stabbing spree with a kitchen knife, which killed women aged 24, 49, and 82 and injured two girls aged 11 and 16.

At the time of the stabbing, he lived in a homeless shelter and had resided in Würzburg since 2015.

Two weeks before the attack, he had been hospitalized in a mental institution after standing in the middle of a road forcing traffic to stop before entering a random car. A week later, he was detained after committing acts of violence in the city center.

His lawyer stressed during the trial in April that he regretted the suffering he had caused to the victims and survivors but had heard “voices in his head” telling him to attack.

“The accused selected the injured party arbitrarily,” the senior public prosecutor Judith Henkel said in her final statement on Monday. “It was his intention to kill as many people as possible,” she added.

In the court’s judgment on Tuesday, the presiding judge, Thomas Schuster, confirmed the assailant would not receive a custodial sentence for murder but would be indefinitely detained in a mental health institution following a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia.

As long as the man’s illness persists and he is classified as dangerous, release is ruled out, Schuster confirmed.

Germany: Bosnian beheads his mother and smashes her head with a table

After the cruel killing of a woman from Mülheim an der Ruhr, the trial against the son of the victim started in Duisburg on Tuesday. The 36-year-old allegedly stabbed his mother 18 times in the head and back with a kitchen knife on December 1, 2021. Afterwards, the 68-year-old’s head was cut off. The 36-year-old cannot be sentenced.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, he is considered incapable of culpability due to a severe mental illness. For the protection of the general public, however, he is facing indefinite placement in a closed psychiatric ward. At the start of the trial, the 36-year-old has not yet commented on the charges.

At the time of the crime, mother and son were living in a shared flat in Mülheim. The public prosecutor’s office assumes that on the day of the crime there was an argument, in the course of which the Bosnian-Herzegovinian defendant grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed repeatedly. He allegedly smashed the head, which was later severed, with the lower part of a table.

At the time of the crime, the 36-year-old, who is also said to suffer from hallucinations, is said to have been in an acute phase of illness. The judges at the Duisburg Regional Court have scheduled three more days of hearings until August 16.
