“There were no Islamist attacks, it was the intelligence services (…) I refuse to blame my Muslim brothers,” claimed the alleged far-right activist suspected of shooting a man in Paris

Tonight at around 2 am, a man was killed by a shot to the head on the Boulevard de Clichy. According to witnesses heard by the criminal investigation department at the scene, a fight broke out between four or five people on the central reservation of this street, which is heavily frequented by night owls who go to the bars and clubs in the area.

A man in his fifties approached the protagonists at the wheel of his BMW car and got out with a gun in his hand, a Colt45 , according to the initial investigation. He fired, aiming at the forehead of a person present. He got back into his vehicle to drive home. After investigations by the BAC and thanks to the police prefecture’s CCTV, investigators were able to trace where the car had been parked a few kilometres away. […]Le Point

Austria: Afghan raped 15-year-old Ukrainian refugee girl – and remains at large for now!

A Ukrainian refugee girl in the Upper Austrian town of Weyer, district of Steyr-Land, was apparently raped by an asylum seeker. As first reported by the newspaper “Krone”, the alleged perpetrator, a 19-year-old Afghan, allegedly dragged the slightly intoxicated 15-year-old girl to a railway embankment that was difficult to see and forced her to have sexual intercourse there. Shockingly, the investigation into the crime, which took place late on Wednesday evening, is “in full swing”, according to the police – but the urgent suspect is to remain at large at least until the first results of the investigation are available on Monday.

The young Ukrainian woman, who suffered injuries to her neck and limbs, confided to her brother the next day, whereupon the family filed a complaint. The preliminary arrest of the suspect by the Weyer police was initially cancelled by the responsible public prosecutor’s office due to a lack of current investigation results. Julia Rauscher, spokesperson for the Steyr public prosecutor’s office, said that they had only been informed verbally about the accusations, and that written results of the investigation were still pending. A medical examination of the girl, the diagnosis of which is expected at the beginning of next week, should provide further information about the course of events. The complainant had only recently fled to Austria with her mother and two siblings to escape the war in Ukraine.

On Thursday, there was speculation about the transfer of the suspected Afghan asylum seeker to another temporary accommodation. According to the “Krone”, the authorised executive bodies had contacted the province of Upper Austria immediately after the incident and the initiation of the police investigation with the request to relocate him. On Saturday morning, Rauscher confirmed that a prohibition of approach and entry was in the offing, but that it was up to the competent police authority to decide.

On Saturday, the public prosecutor’s office was unable to provide any information on the relationship between the young Afghan and the teenage Ukrainian girl. They insist on the opinion they made last week, that the suspect remains at large until the results of the search and investigation, which are expected on Monday, are available. Meanwhile, the police investigation is in full swing.

After a similar incident in Linz at the end of March, the public prosecutor’s office there had also decided in favour of the accused, three 15-year-old Afghans and a 14-year-old Iranian, in case of doubt and in the absence of solid evidence. The four boys had been accused of raping a 16-year-old schoolgirl near Linz Central Station (eXXpress reported). However, the pre-trial detention was lifted after the evaluation of the evidence, which according to the executive was “not very conclusive”.

Global demand for vaccines drops sharply

Chinese biotech firm Kexing Holdings has made a fortune selling Sinovac’s Chinese vaccine. A few days ago, however, it became known that the bonus payments were withheld and most of the workforce has been laid off. Exports of Chinese vaccines (Sinovac, Sinopharm, CanSino) were 97 percent lower in April than in September 2021.

The Chinese outlet Caitong News reported, citing Kexing employees, that the company made a profit of 82 billion yuan (around 11.6 billion euros) last year. At the same time, the company announced that the year-end bonus payment for the past year would be “postponed”.

Shortly thereafter, Kexing suddenly announced massive layoffs. According to Kexing officials, the company has given staff two options: resign themselves and collect an indefinite severance pay, or take indefinite leave. In the latter case, with 80 percent of Beijing’s minimum wage as compensation.

According to the report, Kexing (Sinovac) has already laid off up to 70 percent of its staff. After the last wave of layoffs was completed in April of this year, the year-end bonuses were then distributed to the remaining employees on April 25. There is no statement or justification for the layoffs by Kexing. However, according to Japanese media reports, China’s vaccine exports have fallen sharply.

Thus, Nikkei Asia, citing UNICEF, reported that the vaccine against Covid-19, which is manufactured by three Chinese companies Sinopharm, Sinovac and CanSino, exported a total of 6,78 million doses in April this year. This is a drop of 97 percent compared to the peak exports in September 2021.

Massive drop in exports also for other Covid jabs

Global demand for vaccines has fallen sharply this year. Not only the exports of Chinese vaccines have fallen sharply due to their ineffectiveness against the Omicron variant.

Exports of Moderna’s and Pfizer’s mRNA drugs are also down 57 and 71 percent, respectively, compared to September last year, according to the report. Pfizer’s exports are nevertheless still eight times those of the three Chinese companies combined.

In South Africa, vaccine production has been grinding to a halt due to the fact that there are no orders.

Vaccine production in Africa almost halted

In South Africa, for example, the pharmaceutical company Aspen, which produces its own filling of the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson and sells it under the name Aspenovax, reported that there were no orders.

“It is feared that the production of the vaccine in South Africa will have to end. There is simply no demand for it. Not a single order has come in for weeks,” German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung reported.

The risk is “very high that the company will actually stop producing Johnson & Johnson vaccines,” the head of the African health authority (African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) is quoted as saying in the report. Only around 12 percent of the population in Africa have been vaccinated twice. About 40 percent of the vaccine doses shipped to Africa were not used.

The over-supply of free Covid-19 vaccine doses — donated by high-income countries — had closed the gap that Aspen was meant to fill in the market.

According to another German daily, the Tagesanzeiger, millions of BioNTech vaccine doses will have to be disposed of in June.

The comparatively young population of Africa is hardly affected by Corona and faces completely different challenges, such as malaria or the impending starvation catastrophe. Against the background of the threat of starvation or an infection with malaria, which affects millions of people and kills hundreds of thousands every year, there is simply no room for media hysteria around the Corona virus.

Salvini: Ukraine war must end before 20 million African migrants head to Europe over food shortages

If the war in Ukraine does not end in May, African food shortages could trigger a massive immigration wave, Italian League party leader Matteo Salvini has warned.

Without the Ukrainian grain, “significant hunger is expected on the African continent, which will be a humanitarian, then a social, and finally an Italian problem. Without peace there will be famine in the autumn and 20 million Africans will be ready to go,” Salvini said.

He added that this is why peace must be achieved by May, which is “essential for Ukraine, Russia and Italy as well.”

At the briefing, Salvini announced that he had asked for a consultation with Prime Minister Mario Draghi, who returned from Washington on Thursday from a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden, according to Hungarian media outlet Magyar Hirlap.

Salvini explained that ceasefire as soon as possible is a top priority for the League, for which the party is urging European unity.

“If 80 billion euros are spent on weapons in Europe, it will be difficult to achieve peace, the more weapons there are, the more distant peace will get,” he said.

The leader of the League, which is part of Italy’s ruling parties, said it had asked Draghi to be the flag bearer of those urging peace.

“There are those in Europe who are in favor of war, but Italy, France and Germany must act for peace,” Salvini said. He noted that polling show that the majority of Italians also want peace.

Draghi reassured the U.S. president that Rome would send another, third arms shipment to Ukraine since the start of the war and strengthen NATO with additional troops in member states neighboring Ukraine.

According to the daily Corriere della Sera, the shipment to Kiev includes high-tech equipment as well as heavy weapons. For the latter, another ruling party, the Five Star Movement (M5S), called for a parliamentary vote, but Draghi ruled out voting.

The prime minister will address parliament on May 19, responding to the parties ’concerns.
