The Special Criminal Court in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, on Wednesday sentenced Sheila Smerekova, who desecrated the Koran years ago, to three years in prison, parameter.sk reported today.
The Slovak’s alleged “crime” it that in 2017 she made a video of herself tearing a page out of the Koran and then wiping her buttocks with it and subsequently setting everything on fire. She also called for a fight against Muslims.
At the hearing, Smerekova admitted the action: she had bought the Koran in a foreign bookshop, stressing that she had not made the video in Slovakia. So although she did not deny anything, she pleaded not guilty because she would not have harmed anyone by doing so.
In her defence, she stated: She had been sexually molested in her childhood and had also been a victim of human trafficking. She had been detained in a refugee camp in Finland where she was harassed by Muslims. Before the judge, she described these people as “parasites” who sold their own children and engaged in drug deals.
The Slovak judge convicted the young woman of an extreme crime and of making dangerous threats, for which she was sentenced to three years in prison.
The Slovak authorities’ reasoning went like this: In times of terrorism, such a provocation could pose a serious threat to Slovakia.
