A video has gone viral on the internet where overseas Pakistanis were seen surrounding Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. Overseas Pakistanis were criticising the minister for making foreign visits amidst the devastation of floods across Pakistan, ARY News reported.
Pakistanis have been following Marriyum, the daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, through the streets, shouting “chorni, chorni (thief, thief)”.
The video of the whole heckling incident went viral on the internet in short clips, showing Aurangzeb not reacting to the protest by foreign citizens and keeping herself busy on her mobile phone.
Meanwhile, ministers came forward to defend Marriyum, saying she handled the situation with “grace and composure” when confronted, Dawn reported.
According to Dawn, Aurangzeb was harassed and harassed in a shop by supporters of former prime minister Pak Imran Khan.
A woman in the video was seen admonishing Aurangzeb for “making big claims on TV there, but here she is not wearing a dupatta on her head”.
Reacting to the video shared by Pakistani journalist Syed Talat Hussain, Aurangzeb said she was “saddened to see the toxic effect that [PTI chairman] Imran Khan’s hateful and divisive politics is having on our brothers and sisters”.
The minister also said she stayed put and answered “every question” from the angry crowd, Dawn reported.
Finance Minister Miftah Ismail praised Aurangzeb for her ” grace and self-control” in the face of such harassment and baseless lies.
“I salute my sister @Marriyum_A for her grace and self-control in the face of such harassment and baseless lies from this rude woman (who can be heard but fortunately not seen),” he said in a tweet. Siasatt
